The San Francisco Trip I’m super ecstatic that you will be visiting my hometown of San Francisco. The first think you need to know about San Francisco is that it is filled with delicious food and interesting places to see. You will find most cultures represented in art, food and community. Our tour today will go from Beach chalet to the Haight Ashbury. So open your mind and prepare yourself for an adventure of a lifetime. On our first leg of the journey we will grab breakfast while exploring the views of the Pacific Ocean and take a jaunt through historic Golden Gate Park. Our tour begins on a typical foggy morning sitting in the historic Beach Chalet restaurant where Golden Gate Park meets Ocean beach. Our view from where we sit overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is breathtaking. For breakfast we both enjoy the Crab Bennies (short for Eggs Benedict) that are a succulent mix of toasted English muffin, crab, poached eggs, béarnaise sauce and home fried potatoes. Form here we get on our bikes and ride through the beautiful Golden Gate Park. Our first stop is to see the buffalos near Speckles Lake. We spend some time looking at the massive Bison and also give honor to Native Americans the traditional owners of our land. …show more content…
The sun has now come out as we enter the Botanical gardens and we are floored by the vast array of flowers and trees. Next, we walk through the scented garden, which has braille signs for blind people. The smells are invigorating and the sights are another reminder to be grateful for all of our senses. From here we make our way up the road to Gordo’s a burrito shop on 9th avenue. We both order the super carnitas with guacamole, jalapenos and salsa.

When Mexico captured San Antonia on September 11, 1842 a lot of volunteers join Texas’s army. They would all go into different companies under leaders like Mathew Caldwell and Nicholas Dawson. They coordinated their attacks by each company going after a specific city that would lead to San Antonio. The communication between the companies was by Texas’s government ordering them where to go and what to attack. For example 200 troops led by Mathew Caldwell traveled to Cibolo Creek. Cibolo Creek was six miles away from San Antonio.

West Sacramento is located in Yolo County, California. It shares a border with Sacramento, though they are separated by the Sacramento River. It’s been the industrial centre of the region since the days of the Gold Rush, and is a fast-growing community. West Sacramento is home to Raley Field, which is home to the Sacramento River Cats, a Minor League Baseball Team. It’s a good spot to do some shopping. There are a number of major retail stores in the area such as Ikea, Target, and an upscale grocery store. And, of course, you’ll be right across the river from Sacramento. In Houston, there are no limitations of the food that can be found around the city. Houston is fully diverse with countless traditions that have been passed down. The best we learn about the cultures is through food; a realization that not everybody acknowledges. These cultures has even expanded to school lunches in Cypress and Katy, to be more diverse rather than just serving hot dogs and burgers. As a Hispanic teenager, I am pleased to have been exposed by the many meals and traditions of Mexican, Salvadoran, and other heritages.

Among the many attractions of the San Francisco Bay area, there is a peculiar park within the city. This park is contoured by walls, intercalated by open gates. Seems that the park is a mini town, inside San Francisco, for behind those walls there are many amenities originally built as residence, hospital, schools, offices. This is the Park Presidio of San Francisco. The original Presidio was an area of about 3 square miles located between the city of San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean that functioned as an Army post from 1776 until 1994. First, it was under the control of the Spanish, followed by Mexicans, and then by the Americans (Benton-Short, 1998). In 1994 the Golden Gate National Recreational Area (GGNRA) assimilated the Presidio as part of its control. Today, the park is considered the largest urban national park in the world, with 3.5 million visitors each year ( Foundsf). The history of the Presidio tells us about the social transformation in American culture regarding classes, race, gender (www.presidio.gov). Also, the history tells us about the original ecosystem of
For my first of two field experiences I chose to visit the San Diego History Center located at Balboa Park down in San Diego. There were numerous different exhibits that were on display at the time all relating to the some aspect of the history of San Diego. Most of the exhibits had to do with the roles that different ethnic groups played in the history of San Diego. Some of the groups represented included African Americans, Japanese, and Jewish people. There was another exhibit called “Lore Behind the Roar” which gave detailed information and history regarding the San Diego Zoo. There were also displace of menus from the San Diego Area that dated back to WWII and before.
