Leonard Floyd once said “Go the extra mile for your dreams, every moment counts.” Sam Houston State is an exceptionally high ranked college in Texas. The “Bearkats” have been the go to university in the middle class, hardworking students. Known for its many majors offered, Sam Houston is a college that will help students take the extra mile. For myself, this college is a perfect place to pursue forensics. College starts with the application. Sam Houston is the 12th largest school in Texas, all because of its 73% acceptance rate. Located in Huntsville, many students choose this school because hard work is valued over test scores. Out of all enrolled freshmen in the 2016-17 school year, 75% scored a 23 or less on the ACT. Those are just a few examples of the many expenses that come with college. Which is why financial aid, scholarships, and smart money choices are imperative. Help does have its pros and cons as well. The average graduate from Sam Houston leaves with $32,832 in debt. That amount of money in debt is something no student wants. Using financial planning, and applying for scholarships, college can become affordable. Although it seems impossible, there is help and that can let students take the extra mile for their future. Forensic careers have a variety of growth rates. Some jobs are projected to grow 4% and others 27% in just 5 years. Salaries can range anywhere from $32,000 to $110,000 a year. A forensic psychologist, requires a major in psychology and a minor is a criminal justice field. Although a career in forensics requires a lot of education and training, Sam Houston itself can provide masters, and even doctorate degrees to put you on the market. With such degrees, a candidate has a much better chance of finding a job, and being paid above average for it. The field of forensics has such a variety of specialties and careers to choose from.
