Michael Moss wrote in his book “Salt Sugar Fat” the effects of our nation’s increasing choice of unhealthy eating and the effects following that decision. The book defines the actions food giants like Pepsi or Kraft perform in order for more people to come back and purchase their product. By appealing to ethos, logos, and pathos, Moss achieve his goal in presenting and persuading the readers the growing problem American people have today.
Although some people believe the lunch menu is unhealthy, it is healthy because you would get the healthy items instead of the unhealthy ones, you get a good amount of carbohydrates, and there are healthier choices but people just throw them away. Many teens at Wilson Middle School are getting the healthy foods and throwing them away. Then they just carry on like nothing happened. Also the food at Wilson is very healthy and has the right amount of carbohydrates in all of the food. But do we all know that we could get the healthy foods instead of the unhealthy foods?

World War Two resulted in a chaotic destruction that overwhelmed Europe. These feelings of dismay are concisely summarized in Ruta Sepetys’ Salt of the Sea.. An impactful quote states, “war had bled color from everything, leaving nothing but a storm of gray.” The war in 1945 had drained any and all feelings of hope and spirit out of European people. In it’s wake, the war left a cloud of devastation and despair. Florian and Joana have to overcome this war, their fate, and guilt in order to return to their past selves and survive their journey in a German and Russian warzone.
In the time after the passing of Cheryl's father, it was a time for family to come to grips with what had happened, to reconnect and to treasure. For Cheryl, this meant that she could see her mother in a light like she's never seen in quite a while. After working, Cheryl would go to her mother's house and invite her for supper and, during the weekends, going to Mass and then out for supper. I would prepare good meals that were satisfying. The menu sometimes got changed because it was fun to go out and eat. Cheryl's mom and I would see who's got the fastest wallet in the
The worst thing a parent can experience is when your own child commits a crime. Should parents forgive their own flesh and blood no matter what, and if so, what is unforgiveable? In what way can religion help the parent to forgive such a crime as rape or is it even possible? These dilemmas are mentioned in the short story “Spilled Salt”, written by Barbara Neely, published in 1990.
Salt is a raw material that is located below the surface. The salt deposits are dissolved in the water and then the brine is pumped and converted into salt crystals. When the brine is being boiled the liquid evaporates which leaves salt crystals and then they are later dried. A process like this takes about six weeks and can produce up to 45 tons per hour. After taking out all the scale buildup, only 75 percent of that salt is produced. Then we move to the round can production, which has two parallel high-speed production lines. There are 12 workers for each line and they break off into 2 identical lines. Each line can produce 9600 cans per hour. Because the production process has common procedures, workers on the line perform low-skilled, repetitive tasks that can be operated by 18 workers. These cans are in a shape of a cylinder with a top and bottom. The top part has a plastic pour spout and the cylinder is made from 2 sheets of chipboard. There is a two-step process in cutting the tub and first we cut it into long sections and then they are cut into can-sized pieces. The two sheets are glued together, which keeps the moisture out. The cans are then filled with salt and the pour spout is put in. The cans are then placed in pallets and shipped.
Since fast food first emerged in the United States it has become a large and successful industry, netting billions of dollars every year. This rapid expansion of fast food has put a fast food establishment within reach of almost every American. In Adam Chandler’s “What if Consumers Just Want to Buy Junk Food” he claims that although a majority of Americans believe they eat healthier today than in the 1970’s, but in fact studies show the very opposite. Chandler associates this to the consumers preference of unhealthy foods, but there is strong evidence that this rise in unhealthy consumption in American society can be attributed to the marketing and business tactics of fast food corporations, the availability and ease of access to fast food, and their socioeconomic status.
With the presidential election peering around the corner, it is time to bring back an age-old topic which has been troubling United States citizens for decades, the War on Drugs. Politicians have long quarreled over what sort of action should be taken to combat the world’s drug problems, and it is time that this issue surfaces again. Despite increased efforts from every government faction imaginable, the drug problem subsists, if not worsens. The market for cops and criminals in the drug war fields has not made any noticeable progress within the last 20 years (Kapczynski). Perhaps with the turn of the tide and hopefully a change of administration, the United States can develop a
