St. Juan Diego lived a simple life as a weaver, laborer, and a farmer. Every day, he would walk to daily mass, which was 15 miles from his home. He would rise before dawn to begin his journey to daily mass. One of these days, Juan Diego found out his beloved uncle was sick and dying. He was on his way to see him, when Our Lady stopped him on his path. She told him his uncle had been cured. It was very true. His uncle had indeed been cured.
St. Ignatius of Antioch understood the Christian faith to be objective and sensible, stating that Christianity is fundamentally a religion based in historic, tangible realties . He was adamant to the fact that Jesus Christ was a real human with real flesh; he encountered real suffering and died a truly human death. Ignatius saw Christian faith and the person of Jesus Christ in such a way that it put him at odds with the Gnostics, who held to a Docetic Christology that was circulating widely among the Church. For Ignatius, this was a serious issue that needed to be addressed due to the purity of the faith and the truth it held. At stake was the validity of the incarnation, suffering, death, and resurrection of the person of Jesus Christ. If this is not real or true, Ignatius believed that man
The principal architectural elements of this design are the three aisled basilica with no transepts. The basilica is an axially planned church with a long nave, side aisles, and an apse for the altar. Santa Sabina also has a long, tall, broad nave, following an axial plan. The spolia are the tall slender columns. Santa Sabina has windows made not of glass, but of selenite, a type of transparent and colorless gypsum. Santa Sabina also has a flat wooden roof, coffered ceiling, and thin walls supporting a light roof. As an early Christian basilica, Santa Sabina has thin walls supporting wooden roofs with coffered ceilings. Lastly, Santa Sabina has a bare exterior with a sensitively decorated interior, which represents the Christian whose exterior may not be very attractive, but whose interior soul is gorgeous. Santa Sabina is made from brick and stone.
In addition, many saints and early Christian martyrs were passionate and stalwart in their faith in Jesus Christ, however, few were as resilient and daring as Saint Sebastian. Born in the mid-third century AD, very little is known about Saint Sebastian's early life except that it is believed that he was originally from a small France town called Narbonne and he might have been educated in Milan. After his teenage years, Saint Sebastian joined the Roman Army in 283 AD with an ulterior motive to protect and help other Christians who were being persecuted by the Romans. Saint Sebastian excelled in the Roman Army, eventually being promoted to Praetorian Guard to personally protect the Roman Emperor at the time, Diocletian. While serving in the Praetorian

I chose Saint Raphael the Archangel as my confirmation saint. I chose this saint because this is the first saint I learned about. I always looked upon this saint as my favorite saint because of his strong relationship with God and because I knew this saint the longest. I also chose this saint because his name means "God Heals." Saint Raphael the Archangel had an interesting life in faith and a strong relationship with God. Most people know this saint because he is one of the seven archangels and a part of the group of three archangels talked about in the Bible.

Saint Rose of Lima had been a very divine person ever since she was born. Throughout her life, she had always dedicated herself to religion, prayer, suffering, and saving souls from purgatory. Rose always believed that although her life was very poor, there are always others out there who have it far worse. Thus with her loving compassion, Rose never hesitated to help the poor, the sick, or the weak whenever she came across them on the streets of Lima. This was what the moral of Rose’s life was based upon and dedicated to.

Saint Augustine once said, “It is not the punishment, but the cause that makes the martyr.” A martyr is someone who sacrificed their life for Christ. Blessed Miguel Pro is just one example of someone who sacrificed their life for God. Even on his death bed, he forgave his executioners and continued to pray.
Before Christopher Columbus sailed to Hispaniola with his men, there was a "native Arawak, or Taino, population of three million people or more, well fed, with cultivated fields, lots of children, living in peace...years later, there were fewer than 27,000 who had not fallen victim to the sword, the savages of forced labor, and diseases heretofore unknown to them. The Spaniards called the island La Ysla Española, which in use became Hispaniola" (iacenter.org). Rather than choosing to live together in peace with the Taino, Columbus killed them all of in order to form a new country filled with slaves. Saint Domingue was considered to be a slave island because the economy relied much on both sugar cane production and the wealthy white planters

As I take this chance to reflect, I discovered a truth, the sky is the limit. During my years at St. Luke, I have developed as a student, an athlete, and as a member of the Catholic Church. I believe that everyone brings something special gift to the world, and I believe my gift is that of determination to become a great man through faith and education. I have been an alter server for about two years. Being an alter server has brought me closer to God and my Catholic community. Education has been a big part of my life. I can truly say I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to attend St. Luke. After St. Luke, my plans are to use my education and become prepared to take on the challenges and rewards of high school.
