Her father’s fate was a big affect on if she was going to precede with burying her brother or to no give him the respect like the rest of the surrounding community. Between Antigone And Creon They Were Arguing About Her Brother’s Burial But, Creon Doesn’t Want To Bury Him He Wants Him To Be Eaten Or Decayed. Also, Antigone Wanted To Bury Her Brother The Right Way Not Leave Him To Be Eaten By Hungry Animals.

Eteocles and Polyneices was the start of this tragedy. “Where could I win respect and praise more validly than this: burial of my brother?” said Antigone. This quote comes from Antigone were she has strong emotions about the burial of her brother. She will do whatever it takes to get his proper burial. Antigone had very strong emotions about her brother which lead to very brave actions.
In Antigone, Antigone and her sister Ismene return to Thebes in an attempt to reconcile their brothers—Eteocles, who was defending the city and his crown, and Polyneices, who was attacking Thebes. However, both brothers were killed, and their uncle Creon became the king. He forbade burial is the corpse of Polyneices, declaring him a traitor. Antigone, moved by love for her brother and convinced that the command went against the law of the gods, she buried Polyneices secretly. Antigone lines 72-74 “And if I have to die for this pure crime,/ I am content, for I shall rest beside him;/ His love will answer mine”. It was Antigone’s fate to die after burying her brother. It also was her fate to be Oedipus’ daughter/sister.
In the prologue of the play, Antigone, by Sophocles, Antigone and Ismene (sisters) are debating between burying their late brother, Polyneices, and the consequences they may end up facing. In Antigone’s eyes, family comes before the law of burying a traitor. When disputing between the burial, Antigone says, “...but Polyneices, who fought bravely and died as miserably, - they say that Creon has sworn no one shall bury him…” (Prologue.17-20) Antigone just wants to put her brother to peace, but Creon refuses to allow anyone who tries to ruin the well-being of his new society to be buried. She believes that Polyneices fought just as bravely as their brother, Eteocles, and his spirit deserves to be put to rest instead of lying in the public square.
Antigone was a Greek tragedy that ended in Antigone’s death along with her brother’s. In the beginning of the of the tragedy we learn of her brother’s death “Creon buried our brother Eteocles with military honors, gave him a soldier’s funeral, and it was right that he should; but Polyneices, they fought as bravely and died as miserably, they say that Creon has sworn No one shall bury him,” (LN 15-20). King Creon’s decision for not giving Polyneices a proper burial is because he was a traitor. However, that was Antigone’s brother and she felt besides Polyneices actions, he still deserved a burial. Antigone has lost her parents and just has her sister Ismene left so, despite the order handed down by Creon, Antigone feels that it’s still appropriate to give her brother a proper burial.
Some say that there should never be sacrifices made for friends; but the truth is sacrifices are necessary for a friendship. In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George has to take care of Lennie but in the end, George has to make a sacrifice and shoot Lennie. Understanding the friendship that George and Lennie have helps the reader understand the sacrifice George has to make. George stays with Lennie even when Lennie does something wrong.
Oftentimes, we must sacrifice the most important things in our lives for the greater good. This idea happens in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. In this novel, two migrant workers, Lennie and George, arrives at their new ranch to earn some money. Lennie is a mentally disabled man, who often gets into trouble. George takes care of Lennie, acting as a parent for him. Both have dreams of living together and owning private property. But their dream gets ruined when Lennie accidentally kills the owner’s daughter-in-law. Before anyone finds Lennie and torture him, George decides to kill Lennie himself. Here is the excerpt from this scene:
George doesn’t care about Lennie, that’s why he shot him. In chapter six, George shoots Lennie and kills him because Lennie killed Curley’s wife. Lennie didn’t mean to kill her, he was only frightened that she would tell George about how he accidently killed his own puppy. It states, “ ‘George raised the gun and steadied it… he pulled the trigger,’ ” (106). George shouldn’t have shot Lennie because he knew that Lennie didn’t mean any harm and if he really cared about Lennie then he would’ve let him off with an easier punishment, like being locked up. If someone cares for someone then they shouldn’t do anything to hurt them, like George did to Lennie. Although that is a good argument, George wanted Lennie to live, but Curley was determined to shoot him. So George thought that it would be best if he did it himself. In chapter five, George tells Slim to just bring Lennie in and lock him up rather than harm him. George insists, “ ‘Couldn’t we maybe bring him in and’ they’ll lock him up? he’s nuts, Slim. he never done this to be mean,’ ” (97). George wants Slim to believe that Lennie is crazy and that he didn’t know any better, and that he doesn’t deserve to die. If one cares for someone else then they would do whatever is the best thing to do for that person, like what George did for
Antigone lost both of her brothers, but only one, Eteocles, was allowed by Creon to receive a proper burial. No matter what shame someone may have caused, they are deserving of a respectful and proper burial. This is especially important, for the afterlife and respect for the dead are of great importance and significance Ancient Greek culture. Antigone should have been able to bury both brothers with equal consideration and honor. Creon degrees that the burial of Polynices is prohibited. Regarding Creon’s decree, Antigone says that there is “a city-wide proclamation, rumor has it, forbids anyone to bury him, even mourn him,” (Sophocles, lines 33-34). Creon declares that Polynices
Willy’s pursuit of idealism in his life was extremely unrealistic and eventually prevented him from having the ability to see the truth in life. He spent his whole life trying to provide for his family. He wanted the life of a salesman. To be well-liked and have a massive funeral when he dies. The reality is that he spent his whole life pursuing unrealistic dreams based on negative personal values. Willy himself points out that he’s “worth more dead than alive.” It’s quite tragic that Willy believes he has to kill himself to feel that he is worth something to his family. The reality of the situation is that his death is in vain. The Loman’s only had one more payment left on the house, and don’t actually need the money anymore. But in his blinded illusion, Willy cannot see through or cope with his failure. This causes him to believe that he is worth nothing more alive and kills himself to enable his family to collect his life insurance money.
“Slim said “ya hadda George, I swear ya hadda”.”(Pg. 107) It was clear by the end of the book that George only had one way to protect Lennie from his problems, which were rapidly increasing. “And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. The hand should violently but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger.”(Pg. 106) Only one thing stood in between Curly and Lennie, and that was George. Even though George treats Lennie kindly and with an open heart, his image portrayed to the other characters was still a small fighter.
Antigone's decision to bury her brother caused harm to many people. First, she tried to convince her sister Ismene to help her. She did this by trying to make Ismene feel guilty if she did not; stating it was Ismene's brother too. She says after Ismene tells her she is on a hopeless quest "If you say so, you will make me hate you and the hatred of the dead, by all rights, will haunt you day and night."(Act I: Scene I: Line 57) This threat brings Antigone farther apart from the only living family member that she has left. She has her mind set so much on burying her brother that she will stop at nothing, not even threatening her opposing sister to do it. Since Ismene has been through the same
Many conflicts start to pull George and Lennie apart throughout the whole book. George gets tired of dealing with all the bad thing Lennie does, therefore he ends up killing his best friend as much as he did not want to. When Lennie killed Curley’s wife George knew it was over so George decided to put a end to his missery before someone else killed him. George is forced to shoot Lennie in the back of the head because of the incident that occured. The men do not understand why a best friend would kill another best friend so they all leave in confusion. The only person who understands is Slim. Slim knows what George goes through and understands why he did it. Friendship has to end somewhere no matter how deep the friendship is.
