Civic Essay Assignment I recently volunteered at the Sacred Heart Community center. This is a community center whose objective is to create a community free of poverty, and provide opportunity. There they provide civilians who are stricken with poverty, hunger, homelessness with the a shelter and the tools for that individual to get back on their feet. They provide needs for a whole family, along with the interpersonal skills needed for survival of the daily struggles of life. During my recent tenure, I was tasked to work in the clothes warehouse. This area is filled with clothing and is set up like a neighborhood Marshall’s or Ross but instead

It has come to my attention that San Jose's poverty rates have increased by 20% in the past 2 years. The average income of Hispanics has dipped to $19,000 which is way below the average of surviving off, due to the average cost of rent in San Jose is $2000 a month. Though it seems business is better than ever in the Valley, for the likes of Google, Apple, Facebook, etc, it seems to me that San Jose is going through its own crisis within the city. Support groups like "Working Partnerships USA" and other local support groups like Sacred Heart and Red Cross, etc., have really made an effort in changing these statistics, but without the help of these thriving companies, San Jose will linger on with the unfortunate issues people are currently dealing with. To conclude my assessment, I believe as a community, we need to do more to give back to our community Whether it be by volunteering at a shelter or volunteering to help read books to underprivileged children, are involvement matters. If the youthful members of Silicon Valley decide to stand together, as a unit, the impact will be well received, and really show the change we are trying to bring into the community. We are the future of this community, it is time to put our best foot
2. Another advantage of using this method requires a calculation of one cost and to use this cost for all calculations, thus making paperwork easier. The need for detailed records for each purchase is unnecessary; businesses would maintain records for totals only. Weighted average is good for companies with commoditized items such as computers, auto parts, oil, or even air transportation services.
For my community service, I have been going to Lyndon B. Johnson Head Start Program, or LBJ. At LBJ, it is my responsibility to look after children and clean up after them. The teachers there set up many activities for the kids to work on, most of the time they finger paint. The teachers also set up small field trips. For example, we once went on a field trip to a house that had set up a pumpkin patch and many other activities for the kids. The house we went to wasn’t very far from LBJ. The children had so much fun choosing a pumpkin and playing different games, and I had fun helping them and taking care of them.

My community service experience at All Souls Friday Soup Kitchen taught me the impoverished population of New York City and myself. The volunteer work pushed me to better myself in several areas. Serving the diners helped me expand my social skills with fellow workers and customers by forcing me to communicate with others. Also, setting up and deconstructing the dining room helped grow my management skills by having me order where the plates, mugs, etc. should be placed. Most importantly, working at the kitchen helped humanize the poor population of New York City for me. Often on the subway and on the sidewalk, I try my hardest to avoid the homeless man or woman begging for money, acting like they didn’t exist. Gratefully, my experience at
Regarding the week three assignment of the COUN. 725 course, the organization I wish to work in is the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital. The VA is a department which helps veterans and relatives or dependents of the veterans through services, resources, education, therapy, etc.
Community service, as I have come to learn, is all about taking the initiative to help someone in need, no matter their situation. As the verse Matthew 25:35 says above, it is our job to share God’s love through serving those who are hurting right in front of us. These people are strangers, we may not know them, but that does not mean they should not be helped. Over the course of my life I have had the opportunity to participate in a multitude of service projects, but the one I am most passionate about is the Harvesters Community Food Network.
My family and I always try to serve the community where we can. When we lived in Colorado, I would volunteer at the Denver Children’s Home, preparing and serving meals to the abused and neglected kids that lived there. I also visited them again when I went back to CO this summer. More locally, I regularly volunteer at Living Hope Community Church in their cafe and nursery, serving coffee and supervising visitors’ children. My heart has always gone out to the less fortunate, and I find it hard to pass someone in need without helping.
For example, when I was helping the Meals for the Poor mission I was shocked at the amount of people that appreciated our community service. We were helping so many people prosper and become better people. The feeling of kindness that we presented to this people, spread across the whole poor community of
I volunteered at my local domestic violence shelter called JCCDV or Jennings County Counsel on Domestic Violence. Volunteering at this shelter has taught me lots of strategies that I hope to use in the future. The shelter is only 5 years old and is making itself more known every day. The staff does hosts events for the community and they go into schools to talk about what services they offer. JCCDV firmly believes in self-empowerment. It is important to them that the people they shelter try to make a better life for themselves.
In tenth grade, my English teacher posed the class with a question: what are you going to do for your community? She emphasized the importance of making a positive impact, even if it meant simply smiling as you hold the door open for someone. She prompted us to go out of our comfort zone and do something for our community. While I had been volunteering at Church and at school, I had never really taken a step out of my comfort zone. Instead of just helping out in, say, a soup kitchen, I decided that it was time
I did my community service at Dr. Porter and Clark in Flat Rock during November 2016. They were doing their annual food drive for families that couldn’t afford thanksgiving in neighboring cities. The food drive needed help dividing up food for the families and organizing/making the drive route. I chosed this service because as someone who actively uses food banks on month to month basis, even week to week sometimes it's nice to give

Volunteering to feed the homeless is truly an eye opening experience to what reality is. There is an estimated one hundred million homeless people in the world who are starving and are trying to find a way to survive. On a day-to-day basis, we see homeless people everywhere such as on the streets, by the freeway asking for money so they can feed themselves, or maybe even feed their own family. One day, my mom and I decided we had to take action after witnessing so many homeless people on the streets. When people are in such a difficult situation, their only option is to beg for money because they have no roof over their head, and no food to eat. Many of these people are suffering from their own decisions, unemployment, or for other personal reasons. There are many homeless people who are sick and suffering from severe mental illnesses. It breaks my heart seeing homeless people in the streets, so I knew I had to take action and help out someway. The experience of volunteering to feed the homeless was most certainly a life changing experience. It made me realize how grateful I am for my life, how important it is to help those in great need, and to never take a meal for granted or roof for granted. This event was one that happened in the spur of the moment but has also changed me as a a person by becoming more involved and helping out more in my community , learning to never taking anything for granted, and by not assuming all homeless people are bad people as such.
At church, in addition to my participation in the worship services, I volunteered at our church’s soup kitchen, medical camps and elementary school for underprivileged children. These experiences opened my eyes to the deprivation of love and care in the world and a dire need of God’s grace for people at large so they could receive forgiveness, healing and restoration in their lives.
Community development is implemented under human services in a variety of ways, and is particularly aimed at meeting the needs of the poor in society. Human services are aimed at addressing the needs of the less privileged in society. Poverty eradication is a major focus of human services, despite that the focus of the programs differs from one context and society to the other. The history of poverty and the role of human services in eradicating it can be traced to the years of the industrial revolution, noting that it created the problems that called for government intervention. The manifestations of poverty included the widening of the income gap between the rich and the poor in the US community. The effects of poverty on the individual,
