Sabarish: The Drastically Changed My View Of Nature

Henry Beston in Night on the Great Beach explains how we have destroyed some of the best parts of nature. We really don't appreciate the little things of nature. He goes in to great detail on how we have ruined night and continues to describe the little aspects of nature that we miss. Beston see nature as something that we don't respect anymore, but he has great love for it. It says to me that I don't appreciate nature. I never sit back and just enjoy it.

Let’s take David Henry Thoreau for instance. He was an old poet who lived in the beginning of the 1800’s. He loved writing and most of all, he loved being in nature. He lived in the wilderness on Walden Pond for almost two years. He experienced nature, wrote about nature, and in all technicality, escaped from the real world and society he was raised in to go explore and see what nature had to offer to him. Thoreau loves the goodness in nature and states that society as a whole can and is ruining it. A fellow colleague named Emerson also thought similar to Thoreau, and also sought out to see how beautiful nature is. Emerson in his writings, talk about how pure he thinks nature is and how he (and also Thoreau) believes that people isolated provides them to be essentially closer to nature and see they can see how pure it is and the purity it gives to people. These are issues that I often ponder. I realize this consciousness is atypical of many of my compatriots. However, the roots of my compulsive musings are not wholly random because I was subjected to much similar thinking from an early age. Having grown up in a region where civilization and development were slow in coming, and where trees outnumber cornstalks and coal mines corn silos, we had ample opportunity to reflect on man’s relationship to nature. My parents are two well-educated, biologically trained individuals with an almost obsessive need to be outdoors. They met, so the story goes, in a graduate school class when my mother asked my father for his pocketknife to scrape moss from a tree trunk. It was love amongst the bryophytes. They spent several years trekking all over the U.S. on vacations to national forests and monuments and deserts and mountains, and my arrival on the scene did not cease their wanderings. Throughout today’s society there are several different cultural perspectives which form theoretical and practical understandings of natural environments, creating various human-nature relationship types. In this essay, I will describe and evaluate different ways of knowing nature and the impact of these views on human-nature relationships. From this, I will then explore my own human-nature relationship and reflect on how my personal experiences, beliefs and values has led me to this view, whilst highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each and reflecting upon Martin’s (1996) continuum.

After all, is it not ironic how people go to museums to look at paintings of colorful flowers, green hills, and clear water streams; those are beauties that can easily be observed in real life outside of the urban environment which are surrounded by them, or how people buy recordings of the calming sounds of nature, similar to what you would listen to at night in the woods or smell nature aromas of the candles. If someone does not like or is indifferent to dogs, it may be safe to say that there is a good chance that they are someone who, in their everyday life, is unaffectionate, closed-off, insensitive, lacks playfulness, etc. Directing the discussion back to the environment, another claim that Hill makes is that "the person who feels no such 'gratitude' toward nature is unlikely to show proper gratitude toward people" (688; par. 3). This further implies that the interactions humans have with all things are interrelated. To add a different dimension to this perspective, it may be useful to mention Hill's view on humility. He says that humility means to not value things for their utility and what they can do for us, but to instead value them for their own sake and care about what affects them. Hill

In every civilization there is a main a religion and an influence of that religion. In India the main religion is Hinduism and Hinduism is influenced by the nature around the country. Christopher G. Framarin proposed his theory on how nature influences India in his journal, “The value of nature in India (Hindu) traditions. Framarin explains his ideas on how to achieve moksa and what animals have effect on the moksa cycle.
