REFLECTION PAPER
After graduating from Ashford University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development; , I am hoping to obtain a job working in the Public school system alongside the Pre-k teachers in implementing programs for Pre-k or become an owner of a childcare center. The nature of families and children in relation to society is important for my profession because in order to help improve the childcare center. I also hope to develop programs for Pre-k that children and their families will benefit from. I first need to know how the child’s family has a big impact on the child’s life and their ability to function in society. Not knowing anything

A lot of cultures do things differently, for instance, I may mistake a child’s not looking me in the eye as a sign of disrespect, but in some countries it is disrespectful for a child to look someone with authority in the eyes. Before I assume something about a child, I first need to get to know the child and learn about their culture.
My understanding of child development will help assist me in my chosen profession because I will be able to help the parents and children that I will be working with. By being knowledgeable in child development I will be able to answer any questions that may arise from the parents. It will help me to do my job correctly and be able to bring out the best in the children I work with. It also gives me a chance to share my knowledge of child development with others. By knowing that each child goes through each stage of development at different times and knowing when a child may not be learning at the rate they are supposed to be, I may be able to catch a child that may have a learning disability because I know what signs to look for and when to notify the parents of any concerns. Also, by knowing what stage of development a child is in and what age, I will be able to implement the correct programs and activities for them that will challenge them.
The nature of families and children in relation to society is important for my profession because in order to help improve the childcare
A genogram is a tool that is used in counseling to plot a client’s family of origin. Not only plotting like one would a family tree but also experiences that occurred within the family. According to Corey and Corey (2014) a genogram can start simple and then can become complex picture of a family and issues and struggles within a family.
For this outcome, I chose the CE101unit 6 assignment. I select this artifact because I provided information in childcare laws, early intervention and family services programs that promote family participation. This artifact shows my knowledge, commitment and desire to help families to find high quality childcare and resources within the community. It’s necessary to be aware of the resources that promoted family participation and address families concerned. One of the programs is known in Louisiana as “EarlySteps”. EarlySteps urges families to participate because they believe families are the child’s best advocates, also strongly ask that families always communicate any burden they may have. As teacher we have the opportunity to work with families
Every child is a unique child, and all children are at diverse stages in their development, henceforth they all have their own individual needs. There are numerous advantages for children when their individual needs are met. Children turn out to be a greater amount of a compelling and self-coordinated learner, as they are enhanced in their gifts and capabilities. They are given support to help progression and to reach goals in learning and development to meet the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance.
Cultures provide people several ways of thinking and opinions. When it comes communicating the potential for misunderstandings increase dramatically because translations between languages. Most cultures have their own constricted rules about what is proper communication which affect verbal and nonverbal communication. Sometimes by simply not looking at a person eye to eye has a significant impact on how a different cultural per son will receive it. There a several rules to communication which differ from culture to culture and can be sometime wrongly
Understand the stages of child development- This is very important, you need to know for a number of reasons. Nursery teachers need to be able to see the child's level of ability. Abilities can differentiate at preschool age and an effective nursery teacher will meet each child level and guide them on their pathway to achievement. It is also important so they know understand the children that they are working with
*Learning and development- Every child is different and develops in their own way in their own time. Learning and development is key for all children including those whose different is delayed and those with physical impairment.
2. Discuss how family systems are influential in child development processes and include challenges to meeting a child’s needs, such as conflicts and poor parenting practices.
As a child, I would image what my life would be like when I became a teacher. In this paper I will explore different developmentally appropriate approaching philosophies, theories, and concepts when teaching math, reading, science and the fine arts to young children across a developmental curriculum. Having to gain knowledge from the early childhood text helped me to create what I consider to be the perfect classroom plan. Preschool education is very important because this is their first experience towards twelve years of grade school. The knowledge they gather will increase as they grow and development.
I spent my early adolescence in a military family, and have fond memories of services provided by Child, Youth and School Services. I have longed to prepare and obtain employment in a similar program. Human Development and Family Studies is the answer to my professional and personal enhancement. Human Development and Family Studies provides the opportunity to immerse in research towards improving the quality of life for children and their families. Upon entrance in the program I will focus on research in social emotional development, parent-child relationships, diverse families, or effects of family transitions on family members. Each topic had
Socially and Emotionally the family is a big influence in a child’s development. Parents have a big role by providing care and guidance for their development. Unfortunately some families cannot promote the development of a child because of the conflict among the parents. A single parent can have difficulties in boosting a better development in children and young people, sometimes a child is separated from its siblings and this can affect them too.

In order to apply theories and models of child development to support children’s development we must get to know each individual child by building a good relationship with the children through play, communication and answering to their personal needs. Observation and assessment is also key so that we know what each child is capable of and what they are working towards/could be encouraged towards. Good communication with parents is also beneficial as it helps the carer to see what the child is doing at home and to identify if there are things they do or don’t do at nursery that is different from home. It also helps to work out ways of encouraging development at home and at nursery.
In the book Early Childhood Education Today 11th Edition, we read that “Family-centered practice is one of the cornerstone features of early childhood special education. This follows the fundamental notion that children’s development is influenced by their environment: their family, teachers, school, town, media, governmental systems, and so on.” (MORRISON, 2009) The first thing we as teachers must do is acknowledge that the children’s families are the first and most important teachers of their children and recognize the long-term effect families have on the attitudes and accomplishments of their children . For the edification of today’s youth there are potential positive responses to be obtained through working with a child’s parents as
The family is the single most important agent of socialization because the family is the first and most continuous social world for infants and children. The family provides the child's initial social identity in terms of race, religion, social class, and gender. In time,
In order for us to understand how a child develops we must conduct research on theories that we believe and others believe to be true. When we do understand the development of children we will be able to understand the skills and behaviors of children. This will help us to understand why they will not eat certain foods or how children of different ages react differently to certain things.
