Running Subculture
There is a saying that goes, “Every journey begins with a single step”- Maya Angelou. Similarly, that is how I started as a runner. Many people form part of this group or subculture, because is more than just a sport. Runners typically say that running is who they are and the sport has changed their lives. Although running for some may be just a way to stay fit. Conversely, running for some has become more than that, a life style that brings healthy and psychological favor. A runner’s primary life focus is not running. It might be family, friends, work, or a mix of many other things. However, running is blended into every runner’s daily routine. As a runner I agree with this too.

There are countless reasons why runners run. But what every runner has in common is that they always run to achieve an objective. This is what makes this group so special; eventually running becomes part of their life and part of who they are. The best part about it is that anyone can form part of this subculture.
Social running is an enjoyable experience. Making friends while exercising is another way runners use to keep on training. There are many activities some runners like to involve such as running for marathons or running for charities. On the other hand there are solo runners, who enjoy the peacefully of running alone to find time for themselves. Also solo running can be a great way to release stress, and achieve goals all by yourself. Many people have other reasons why they run.
However, running for weight loss is the most common one. Running has been scientifically proven to extremely burn large amounts of calories. Along with other health benefits for example it reduces stress, and boost metabolism. Also other studies have shown that people who exercises regularly are happier, feel more energetic and creative. This study is very true personally; before I was a runner after each run I would feel extremely exhausted. However, the more the body and mind gets used to it, and after a long run in the park you will still have energy for other
Another piece of text supports that “ A race is like a work of art” paragraph 12. It presents how we can enjoy our running with our minds and our bodies. Our minds are engaged with our bodies, they work in unity and one can’t be more valuable than the other. The author emphasizes that “ I get choked up when I see a kid, or anyone else fight hopeless odds… with a dream in the heart, a gleam in the eye, and a goal in mind” paragraph 14. This is a significant piece of text that the author expressed that completing a race is not necessarily just about having a fit body but it’s about reflecting mental courage to fight for
Running is much more than it seems. People view it as a way to get in shape, lose weight or even just a hobby. It is much more than that, running is a dumbed down version of a psychologist. Two miles in, a lifetime to go, came directly from what someone's mind wants them to believe during a run, it wants them to quit, cut it short. Why would someone keep going if the only reward they could maybe receive is a shiny piece of metal or to lose a few pounds? Why would someone go to practice and push themselves to the point of exhaustion, get up, and do it again everyday? For most, this would be absurd, but a select few realize the undercover benefits that come with this kind of self induced trauma.
When I decide to go for a run, I choose to do so according to my personal desires, wants, or characteristics, which constitute my own self as a person. I am solely responsible for choosing to run,
I have an unorthodox relationship with running. As a child, I swore I would never run, that I loathed even the mere idea of running for fun. But now, I find it an escape, a paradise where I can truly be who I am, with no exceptions..
Running has many different aspects of workouts and forms of doing it. Comparisons a lot of people make is that cross country and track are the same thing, but those two sports are entirely different. Both do deal with running, but the differences are very major and they go much as to change the workouts done for the sports. More comparisons that are mostly said that if a runner enjoys long distance running then they also should go out for track since it has long distance events. Even though it has those events it doesn’t change the fact the two are very different.
In the world today, people have created different hobbies for themselves. Many people like to read different books from different genres. Some like to do life changing experiments for science. Some like to engineer robots that could help us in the near future. Some people like to run and run and run until they know that they accomplished something. This includes me. I enjoy running because it helps me ease of stress, in a way, and helps me grow my strength. And because I enjoy running, I decided to join the Cupertino Middle School cross country. Here I started to on the weekdays, not including Thursday, with a lot of other people. We would run around 2-3 miles everyday thinking that “good enough” is not enough. We went to many meets against
When I began as a high school freshman, it quickly became a normal as well as an essential part of life. I ate, I slept, I sometimes did homework, and I ran but, not necessarily in that order.
Of the more than twenty million Americans who are running today, most who start do so for the wrong reasons, with the wrong attitude, and tend to lose interest after a few weeks or months. Many quit. This is usually because they become concerned with superficial goals such as time and distance and never discover the more profound mental benefits that running offers. (Lilliefors 15)
Each culture uses the same techniques to perfect their running form and each one is successful in their own way. Running may not always be the fun thing to do, but it is a great way to stay healthy. Also, it makes you stronger both physically and mentally. Generations and generations of people have been running for years, and it has evolved into something unimaginable. As noted on Pinterest, ¨Running trains me to be a stronger person. Running trains me to refuse to allow my environment to determine my actions. I have never breathed so hard, felt so strong, or faced such challenge as when I am running. Running trains me to always keep
Although running may not seem like a big sport like football, basketball or soccer, it takes a lot of courage, heart and strength to be able to run. In the article called “Cool like me” by Donnell Alexander he says, “cool is finding the essential soul, while being essentially lost”. When we feel stressed and feel like we want time for ourselves away from society, running is a solution. Running is not just considered a sport, running is a lifestyle that people choose to live. It makes them feel good, look good and it makes them happy.
I'm a runner; I always have been and I always will be. Why? I'll tell you why. Running is the one physical activity, the one hobby, the one life style you can have that can change your life in a lot more ways than one. I started running when I was ten years old. I really enjoyed doing it and it was good for me. I started to get into it when my father married what is now my step mother. She was a runner in high school and college and told me about how she enjoyed it. At first I thought the idea was completely absurd, but then I actually tried it. I started to go out on the old county road that I lived on and just run a couple miles. It was fun to me and everything but I never understood why I did it until I grew older. I ran local 5K's and such but never ran to my full potential until I was in junior high. But even then I didn’t take it as serious as I do now. Something about doing something that no one else could at my age was enjoyable. Adults would wonder with amazement as my parents told them about how I would run miles and miles everyday. The most common comment I received was “I don't know how
One of the reasons that I run is because it brings physical and emotional benefits to my life. Even though running could be boring, lonely, it could hurt your feet like crazy and above all there are not immediate results for losing weight, I love it. Running makes my life complete, when I don´t run my days are longer and I get tired very fast. My days start very early in the morning when is very dark and I go to the gym to warm up. As the sun comes out, I go to the park where there is a beautiful lake that could go as far as to Kendall Drive from the Tamiami Airport. Sometimes is cold, sometimes is hot depending on the day but when it rains the only place to go is under a bridge which are many. Music is a most for me, especially if is Latin,
Today I would like to inform you about the benefits of running, along with the different formats of running races, both in high school, and out of high school.
Many see the foible of running, for they believe it is repetitive and boring. Those who say that have a good point. After all, one is just moving quickly down a long, straight, unchanging asphalt road with no electronics to play with or nothing to eat or drink. They do not understand that running is very versatile
Although there are some negatives with running, there are also many positives. Many people run because of the health reasons. It is good for the heart and lungs and people run in the fresh air. Running outside rather than inside is good for you too because of the fresh air. Running also relieves tension, by running, people can think about their problems without having to worry about anyone hearing them. They can think about whatever
