Rudy Paper: The first habit is being proactive. The second habit begins with the end in mind. The third habit is prioritizing. The movie relates to one of Rudy's habits of being proactive. Rudy has many steps to be proactive to achieve his goal, but one specific example is Rudy getting a tutor to get good grades. Rudy getting a tutor is being proactive because he is trying to get good grades so he can get into Notre Dame. This is showing he is doing something beneficial to achieving what he wants. Another example of proactive behavior in the movie is when Rudy gets a job as a field maintenance worker at Notre Dame to expand his passion and want to eventually be a player on the field instead of a worker. Rudy getting a job at Notre Dame is showing he is proactive and really wants to reach his goal of attending there someday. …show more content…
For example, he has had an end goal of getting into Notre Dame and playing football for them ever since he was young, and he told his whole family and friends that he was going to accomplish that goal. This example relates to beginning with the end in mind because he has an end idea of what he wants to achieve in life. A paradigm shift occurs when Rudy’s dad and family didn’t believe he would get accepted into Notre Dame and make the football team, but when he does, the family supports him. The dad tells his whole work that his son got accepted into the school and then some of his family members and friends show up to watch him play football. Another example of Rudy beginning with the end in mind is him training and running to become a better athlete to hopefully make the football team. Another example is him showing up to the practices and talking to the coaches to hopefully achieve his goal. These relate to the end in mind because he has an end goal and he is beginning to do things to achieve his end
Back in the 1960s a house would cost about $12,400. A couple of weeks after Rudy saying no to buying a house his girlfriend broke up with him. When Rudy's football season at Highschool was over he got to give one last tackle and it was on his coach. Not only was that one of his favorite tackles it was one to remember. Before Rudy went to college one of his friends that believed he would make it to Notre Dame got in an accident in front of his eyes. In the power plant that he worked in had a mess up and his friend didn't make it. Although there were good and bad parts that he went through in his high school life it gets even better in
The film Rudy is a motivational film about a young man who has a desire deep inside him of attending and playing football for the Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame. The son of an oil refinery worker and one of fourteen children Daniel Rudy Ruettiger had to overcome discouragement and anguish to reach the peak of success. It took many years of fierce determination to overcome obstacles and criticism yet Rudy never gave in. As fans chanted “Rudy” he sacked the quarterback in the last 27 seconds of the only play and the only game of his college football career. He is the only player in the schools' history to be carried off the field on his teammates' shoulders.
The second aspect that was noticed bout Rudy was the dedication that he kept consistent. No matter how hard times may have seemed to Rudy, he was too stubborn to give up. He didn't have the grades to attend Norte Dame, so what did he do? He walked into a small catholic school and applied there. He did this to earn credit and to eligible for the fall semester at Norte Dame. That fall semester Rudy got into the school of his dreams and immediately became a hitting dummy for the Football team. Kenneth Turan wrote a review on the movie and he states "It meant a lot for Rudy to play football for Norte Dame, his obsessed determination begins to look more inspirational as the movie goes on" (1).
Rudy is one of the most motivational movies of all time. The movie starts with a scene of kids playing a pick up game of football, and the game is coming down to the final play. The ball is thrown to Rudy who misses it and the other teams wins. All his life, people have told Rudy he's not good enough, not smart enough, not big enough but nothing can stop his impossible dream of playing football for Notre Dame. From the time he was a young boy, Rudy would watch the Notre Dame games and imagen himself running out of that tunnel. His determination to join the Fighting Irish is really presented in the movie. However, his blue-collar family only laughs at his ambitions. They know Rudy will follow his father and brother’s footsteps to the local steel
Rudy was continually persistent in chasing his dream, despite constantly hearing throughout his entire upbringing that he could not do it. Rudy perhaps faced his greatest criticism in high school, where everyone from his parents and siblings, friends and teachers were unsupportive of his dream. Rudy was once told in high school, "The secret to happiness in this life is to be grateful for the things the good Lord has bestowed upon us…Not everyone was meant to go to college" (Civics teacher). Many teachers say they have gotten into teaching because they enjoy being a mentor to children, and children definitely need mentors during this point in their lives. Obviously, this was not the case for Rudy’s civics teacher, who spoke very adversely to Rudy about pursuing his dream. Even worse, his own father once told him, "Chasing a stupid dream causes you and everyone else nothing but heartache. Notre Dame is for rich kids, smart kids, great athletes. Not us. You’re a Rudiger, and
An example of a means and ends situation would be a young man that wants to be a professional baseball player. In this situation, the end would be becoming a professional baseball player. The means would be the steps or actions that the young man takes to become a professional baseball player.
There are many things that the movie Rudy or Rudy's story is very inspiring in many ways. First Quality that Rudy had was, never giving up on anything. Rudy having a big dream from when he was younger that he wants to complete and to make his dream come true. I can relate to Rudy because I want to complete and be successful in my dream at being a leader or to be a aerospace engineer or continuing Karate and earning my Black Belt. Next Quality that Rudy expresses is, Rudy's Commitment to get work done.
Habit two is “ Begin with The End in mind ”. I personally think that this is one of the important habits . A quote from the book “Alice’s in the Wonderland” said” Would you tell me please which way I ought to walk from here? That depends a good deal on where you want to get to. The cat said. I don't much care where. Said alice.
In the beginning of the movie when Rudy was still a child, he said to everyone that, one day he will play on the football team in Notre-Dame, but everyone doubted him. As he got older, everyone around him still doubted him because they didn’t think that he was good enough to make the team. When he finally made the team, he wasn’t the best player, but he still tried more than any player on the team because that was what he wanted his entire life. In the movie, they illustrated this beatitude multiple times.
Next, the third habit in this book, “Put first things first” is a combination of 1 and 2, Habit 1 says, "You're in charge, You're the creator. " Being proactive is about choice. Habit 2 is the first, or mental, creation. Beginning with the End in Mind is about vision. Habit 3 is the second creation, the physical creation.
Habit 1 : Be Proactive. The Habit of Personal Vision. According to Covey, this habit reflects our innate ability to take charge of our lives. We are not simply products of in-grained stimulus- response reflexes. We have the ability to take charge, plan ahead, and focus our energies on things we can control instead of reacting to or worrying about things over which we have little or no control. This habit allows us to rise above the ebbs and flows of the tides of our day-to-day lives and direct our lives.
Habit 3 is put first things first this is very important for teens because it teaches
This habit is about prioritizing, planning, and executing a week 's tasks based on importance rather than urgency. It requires that I evaluate whether or not my efforts exemplify my desired character values, propel me towards my goals, and enrich the roles and relationships discussed in Habit 2.
That is the jest of habit 1. Habit 2 is “begin with the end in mind”. What this habit means is that you need to think of the end of everything. Say you are working on a car don't you have to think of what it needs to look like? Clear your mind and think of the end of the project or whatever you are doing.
Habit 2:Begin with the End in Mind was probably the habit that hit home most for me. Like most teens I was struggling with my priorities. I have to
