A procedure that in the past ten years with technology and advancements in medicine is now considered a routine outpatient procedure. Not long ago, people started wearing wristbands that recorded the number of steps they took, their heart rates and sleep cycles. But if the now-ubiquitous bands and accompanying apps that stored biorhythms started out as novelties, they paved the way for a new generation of gadgets that have become serious tools to improve health care delivery and outcomes. These newfangled contraptions will change how and where care is delivered and will enable providers to stay continuously connected with patients wherever they may be — or at least connected to the devices that indicate whether a patient is abiding by prescription …show more content…
The principal procedure is the procedure performed for definitive treatment. Hospitalizations usually involve multiple procedures, which together constitute the all-listed procedures performed during a hospital stay. Data on inpatient hospital procedures can help hospital administrators, health practitioners, researchers, and others understand how hospital care, including care related to diagnosis and treatment, is currently provided and what changes or consistencies in care delivery have occurred over time. There is a specific population in 2005, there were 10.2 million cosmetic procedures performed in the United States, an increase of 11% from 2004 and a 38% compared with 2000. This number includes 3,839,387 Botox treatments, 1,033,581 chemical peels, 837,711 microdermabrasions, 782,732 laser hair removals, 589,768 vein sclerotherapies (strippings), 323,605 liposuctions, 298,413 rhinoplasties (nose jobs), 291,350 breast augmentations, 230,697 blepharoplasties (eyelid reconstructions), 134,746 abdominoplasties, 114,250 breast reductions, 793 vaginal rejuvenation procedures, 337 calf augmentations, and 206 pectoral implants. Forty percent of those undergoing cosmetic procedures are repeat patients; 34% have multiple procedures at the same time. It is cosmetic procedures today, an increasing number of cosmetic surgery procedures are performed in doctors' offices and free-standing surgical centers (as opposed to hospitals), and more procedures are being carried out simultaneously. This increases the risk of rare but potentially fatal infections and anesthetic reactions. Furthermore, some practitioners have not completed the full 5 years of residency training required for certification by the American Board of Plastic
As consumers utilize smartphones, tablets, and other devices for other functions like social media and email, they are starting to look at these features to assist them with their healthcare. Mobile body area network devices will be a growing trend in the coming years as a way to get patients engaged in their healthcare and also to give providers routine updates on the status of patients with chronic conditions. As DeGaspari (2014) indicates, these devices can lead to improved functionality for other devices used in hospitals, such as sensors for monitoring patients that might get up and wander or be a fall risk. Telemedicine will continue to grow as payers, providers, and patients all start to realize the mutual benefits that can be
Cosmetic travelling is a massive risk on people from all around the world. Many people spend over thousands and thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery even though there is a high chance of the clinic and the surgeon being unprofessional. These unprofessional surgeons have caused many deaths over these last years. Some deaths are caused from infections, reactions or from the product used by the surgeons.

On March 14, 2017, I will be undergoing an outpatient procedure. I am requesting to use a combination of my days off, sick leave, and annual leave from March 14, 2017 to March 21, 2017. After this initial recovery time, I am requesting to return to work in a light duty capacity. Surgeries in themselves are complicated procedures. Weighing positive and negative outcomes and every in between possibility is a task every surgeon and patient must talk through. Many procedures are based off a necessary for life, or a better healthier-life outcome. Such procedures are covered by health insurance. But what about the other side of surgeries? Some procedures are purely cosmetic, some may say. But, cosmetics can play a
This rise in popularity can be validated by the growth of social media, and its impact on the millennial generation, along with the new advancements of technology, the affordability and desperation of millions to achieve a perfect-look in the 21st century. According to a study done in 2015 by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2015 had , 15.9 million surgical and minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2015, and since 2000, overall procedures have risen 115
Thesis: The cosmetic, issues, and beauty. We need to understand every possible outcome while considering plastic surgery
Patients are becoming armed with devices that can empower, monitor, track and even measure their disease progression creating interventions when necessary to optimize the health and response time to disease. New devices and tools technology into a smartphone for example, have the potential to become an extension of a patient’s health care provider and already change the way in which patients interact with the medical system. These various devices can allow public health officials to better monitor and screen for diseases in large populations and ultimately help improve preventive strategies and access to care for millions of Americans. This is all a critical part of improving outcomes for patients going forward.
Mackenzie, you did a great job at explaining and providing examples for how outpatient and inpatient services differ from one another. I find it intriguing that more procedures are now being done in outpatient services rather than inpatient because I have always heard of surgeries being performed in inpatient. However, upon looking at further research, I discovered that there are almost 54 million procedures done in outpatient and some of those procedures include rotator cuff repair and cataract surgery (Orenstein, 2015). I can see why more people would choose to have procedures, such as some surgeries, done in outpatient because some people may not be comfortable staying in a hospital for an extended period of time after a procedure.
Thesis: Plastic Surgery has been a problem in American society. People shouldn’t feel ashamed of their body, their looks, or be insecure about any body part because everyone is beautiful in their own way. Problems of plastic surgery include expenses, health issues, and medical malpractice.
Patient wearables offer an excellent example of this new doctor/patient partnership. Patients can not only be monitored by their physicians, they can monitor themselves as wearables present not only data concerning heart rate and blood pressure, but personal information regarding everything from diet to the quality of last night’s sleep. This brings the patient into the loop and encourages him or her to take more responsibility.
MedicineNet analyzes mental health risks as a result of unrealistic expectations of surgery. When a person engages in plastic surgery on the wrong grounds, they tend to be unsatisfied with their results. This causes stress and sometimes depression on the patient, which can also affect their physical health, due to delayed and/or prolonged healing time. It is critical for plastic surgeons to be specifically trained in psycho-therapy. During an initial consultation, the doctor must first determine whether the patient is emotionally stable. They look for things such as age, development, mental illness, whether the patient is realistic towards the outcome, whether the patient has recently undergone any sort of traumatic event, or any other factor capable affecting their mental health. Once this is assessed and the patient is cleared for surgery a whole new array of problems arise.
In 2016, almost 1.8 million cosmetic surgical procedures were carried out and the top 5 included:
