Romeo and Juliet is both a Tragedy and Love story but this essay is going to look at why this classic Shakespearean play is a love story. If you look up whether Romeo and Juliet is a love story or tragedy it will say that is a Tragedy with a Love story as the central plot. But the only reason it is considered a tragedy only because of the deaths. And I couldn’t write a whole essay on death. Romeo and Juliet met at the Capulets masque party after Romeo’s friends convinced him to go rather than be sad about breaking up with Rosaline. Romeo saw Juliet dancing with her soon-to-be husband, Count Paris, Juliet and Romeo made eye-contact and it was love at first sight. Later Romeo found Juliet in the crowd, he grabbed her hand from around the corner of a pillar and whispers “If I profane with my unworthiest hand, this holy shrine, the gentle fine is this; my lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand, to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.” After their little conversation he pulls her around to where he is and they kiss. Then Juliet is summoned and Romeo finds out she is a Capulet “Is she a Capulet? O dear account! My life is my foe's debt.” and Juliet finds out he is a Montague “My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me, that I must love a loathed enemy.” this is where they learn their love will not be easy. The Montague and Capulets houses have despised each other for so long that no one even
"LOVE IS A Certain Inborn Suffering derived from the sight of and excessive Meditation upon the beauty of the opposite sex, which causes each one to wish above all things the embraces of the other, and by common desires carry out all of love's precepts in the other's Embrace" is definition of medieval love. But Really, How much does Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet comes to terms of traditional " love"? Think about Romeo in the very beginning of the play, when he talks about Rosaline. He describes, rather about her looks as he says: " O, she is rich in beauty, only poor". Romeo talks of his unattainable love to the beautiful Rosaline. He sees Rosaline as strong, for she would never be hit by cupid's arrow. This is an example of courtly

He wanted Juliet to agree to the marriage. Capulet had hosted a party, and Romeo was not invited, but he decided to go anyway. While there he met juliet, and forgot all about Rosaline. “For there was never a story more of woe/ Than this of Juliet and her Romeo” (Shakespeare V, III, 309-310). These words spoken by the Prince of Verona prove in itself that there isn’t a love story anything like Romeo and Juliet. Does love really conquer all or is it destiny who determines the lover’s fate? Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare, Play, is a story about two “star-crossed lovers” (Shakespeare Prologue.6) whose love is fatal because of their opposing families and misfortunate events lead the couple to their death. In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses the motif of destiny to suggest that destiny is inevitable because everyone has their own fate for a reason which cannot be altered no matter the great lengths taken.

Though some may simply know romantic love as an intense bond between individuals devoted to one another, its effects in reality are not always as beautiful as the concept. Particularly when it is frowned upon by society and the people involved also swim against the current, the consequences of this type of love can be damaging to others outside the romance. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the actions of the young lovers in their desire to be together not only steer the course of their lives, but also those of their friends, families, and other citizens in the city. The unfortunate series of events following Romeo and Juliet’s choice to reach beyond traditional gender roles, a standard courtship, and their established social networks reveal the importance of complying with these norms. By highlighting the chaos in Verona on the path to Romeo and Juliet’s eventual demise, Shakespeare suggests that intense romantic love that threatens relationships and expectations in the established social order leads to tragedy.
