Roman Empire Thesis

While the fall of the Roman Empire is well known, the exact causes of why it fell can be difficult to pinpoint. Many historians believe that Rome 's downfall was due to poor leadership, weakened economics, or perhaps a combination of the two along with other seemingly unrelated factors. However, there is a string of evidence suggesting that there were three main components that took place to bring about the fall of the Roman Empire. These determinant attributes did not happen all at once, and there was a domino effect with each one directly influencing the others. The fall of Rome occurred after a series of preventable events, including unacceptable emperors, the heavy reliance on slaves, and the increasingly uncontrollable borders of Rome.

The seemingly unstoppable Roman empire was certain to fall in a matter of time. Even though Rome was majorly affected by external attacks, I feel like the fall was because of the internal decline. The economy and social issues were the key factors that led to the descent of the large empire. A vast amount of their problems came from within the city. Every decision that Rome made had an extensive effect on the city itself and the rest of the world. Many foolish decisions made by terrible emperors weakened the city and eventually cause the many aspects of Roman life to crumble.

At the start of the common era, the Roman Empire had grown to control the Mediterranean world. This made the empire both feared and admired. When Rome reached its height in both wealth and status, it began to experience problems that led to the fall of the Roman empire. To this day, historians still debate how a once great empire fell. There were two major internal and two major external causes for the fall of the Roman Empire.

Rome, one of the most powerful empire ever in the history, it is the center of the world, but that was before bad things start happening. Rome is extremely powerful and wealthy, the Romans conquered territory from current day Scotland to Spain, and have control the whole Mediterranean . So what were the Primary reasons for the fall of Rome? There was lot of reasons that led to the decline of Rome, but I picked the three most important ones for me, which is a unstable government, foreign invasions and diseases.

The Roman Empire was a very successful civilization that had many accomplishments that are a part of the modern world. Textbooks and primary sources were studied to be able to come to these conclusions. The Roman Empire lasted 500 years throughout the BC and AD times without having too many major problems. The Romans were able to last so long because of the military strength and the amount of land that the Empire had. The Romans were located in Rome, Italy and ended up expanding to take over most of the Mediterranean world. However, all good things must come to an end. Starting in the 200s, other civilizations started to slowly take over Rome. Eventually, the Empire collapsed. The causes of the collapse of Rome were that the land area was too large to sustain, there were many political problems in Rome, and there were too many invasions happening for Rome to handle.

Although many historians and professors attribute the fall of the Roman Empire to excess and corruption, the role of shifting spheres of power, trade created a situation that made the fall of such a large cumbersome empire inevitable, the military played a role for not obeying protocol as well and an excess of things were happening in the government that also led to the fall of the Roman Empire. Each mistake made by the Romans contributed to their fall of their empire since after time of accumulation of their mistakes, it becomes a tremendous problem. Though the Roman Empire still did have their climax in history before everything came crashing down.

In 117 AD the Roman Empire was the most powerful empire in the world. Rome was a powerhouse! How can such an amazing empire suddenly turn into dust? The Roman empire reached north-western Europe all the way to the east at its peak. Once they had so much area to control, there was no room for error.

The Roman Empire was without a doubt the most powerful governing body in its day, but it had fallen! There was not any single cause for the fall of Rome. Many things occurred in a short period of time, which lead to the fall of such a powerful empire. Why did Rome fall? Some of the reasons that caused the fall of Rome was Natural disasters, a weak military, and the collapse of their economy.

Christianity weakened the Roman army and complicated the Roman government. According to Doc 7,” Christianity also taught pacifism (not to fight) which discouraged Romans from enlisting in the army and further encouraged Rome to rely on foreign fighters.” This shows that Christianity weakened the government and was a big reason why Rome relied on foreign fighters.

What caused the fall of the Western Roman Empire? The collapse of Rome was caused entirely by itself. With Rome's government inability to sustain its empire, Rome's army eroding, and terrible financial maintenance Rome led itself to complete and utter destruction. Rome’s government failure to sustain its empire led it to finally collapse. Henry Haskell an author of The New Deal in Old Rome writes “Part of the money... workmen from their occupations.”

A social cause of the Roman Empire was Roman's value to Christianity. It states in document 6, “Also the ideas and beliefs of Christianity weakened the Roman Army.” This shows that since the Romans were becoming more civilized, they valued their religion than going to the army. This weakened the empire because since the Romans had a morale and in a war, you kill people, the Romans didn’t want to kill anyone because they thought that if they kill, they would go to hell and if they didn’t kill, they would go to heaven so they wanted to be in heaven rather than fighting and killing the enemy. This helped Rome to fall because soldiers no longer wanted to fight and so the Empire could not be protected. This lead to barbaric invasions that Rome could not protect itself against. Doc. 7 states, “Christianity also taught pacifism...which discouraged Romans from enlisting in the army and further encouraged Rome to rely on foreign fighters.” Rome was such a huge empire that it needed to have an army so that rebellions and attacks could be stopped. Without an army, Rome would fall, so they relied on foreign fighters that would later rebel and attack Rome.

It was also the end of Pax Romana. So why did the Roman Empire Crumble? There were many reasons why Rome fell but the most important reasons are because of foreign invasions, military problems, and poor political leadership, among the 3 main reasons, the most important reason is poor political

The relationship between Christianity and the Roman Empire is interconnected with each other in different ways. Heaps of commotion and perspectives were constructed, and it caused several disputes to form all over Europe. In addition to this, there was also a large amount of seclusion, death and persecution during the time. Events such as the Fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD, the rise of Christianity, and its expansion throughout the Europe were a result of the political conflict. Due to the actions of many individuals and groups that influenced the course of major events, the relationship between the Roman Empire and Christianity was quite tense, problematic and confrontational.

The principals of human nature force people to fight for what they believe in; therefore, defending religion is not objective to that principle in the case of the crusades. In the case of the First Crrusade many people did just that, volunteered knowing that many of them would die defending their religious beliefs. In the days of the Byzantine Empire, a person’s faith or religion determined how they would live their life. It is the nature of people to fight for what they believe in; therefore, defending ones religion is not objective to that principle as in the First Crusade. A crusade is characterized as any of the military expeditions undertaken by Christian powers in the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries to win the Holy Land from Muslims.
