The Most Courageous Girl Courage is what is right even if others don't like it. In the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry Mildred D Taylor uses Cassie as a character and she fights for what's right. The first time Cassie shows courage is protecting her brother ”Miz Crocker please don't!”I said Miz Crockers dark eyes warned me to not say another word.”I know why he done it” The second one was when she stood up to Mr. Barnett “I ain’t nobody's little n*****!”I screamed, angry and humiliated. The third time she was standing up for her Papa ”Who said that!”I cried jumping up from the bank”Just tell me who did that it and I’ll ram...”We automatically knew that Cassie was going to be an outspoken little girl that was sassy. She was born when equality
Almost everyone knows the right things to do. When a bully is picking on a victim, people around them know the right thing to do – stand up for the victim. However, knowing the right thing to do and doing the right thing are two very different things – the difference is courage. This is shown clearly in Ernest Gaines’ novel, A Lesson Before Dying, in Henrik Ibsen’s play, A Doll’s House, and a quote from the movie Hidden Figures. Courage is shown through Grant, Nora, and that “there’s no bathroom for me here” (0:31) from Hidden Figures respectively.
Courage is a cardinal virtue every human being needs. Courage is doing something frightening you are for the right being even if you are alone in your belief. Many regular humans have used courage also. For example Dr. Martin Luther King jr. stood up for all African Americans, even though almost everyone did not agree with him. He eventually helped end segregation by raising awareness. Sadly, Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was killed just for his beliefs. Today we celebrate a holiday for his great bravery. Bravery is a synonym of courage.
Sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to, but it really takes courage to get through it. In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, Cassie Logan is a very sassy, outspoken eleven year old girl that, in my opinion, is the most courageous character throughout the novel. Some things that made Cassie courageous was that she stood up for Little Man, her little brother, at Great Faith Elementary School, stood up for her and Stacey, her older brother, at the mercantile, and she had to ‘grow up a little’ and apologize to her rival, Lillian Jean Simms. Cassie truly had to be courageous to get through the hard times.
In life, being courageous means you have to stand up for your convictions and beliefs. In the novel Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry written by Mildred D. Taylor, Stacey consistently shows gigantic amounts of courage throughout the book. Stacey shows how courageous he was when he chased after T.J. to find the truth for his mom; when he confronted T.J. about his lying and tells the kids he wouldn’t stand for it; and when Stacey stays behind during the big explosion of violence at the end of the book. The events all demonstrate Stacey’s courage and willingness to help his family.
“When the land was up for sell again, Grandpa had bought two hundred acres of it, and in 19I8, after the first two hundred acres had been paid off, he had bought another two hundred, It was goodrich land, much of it still virgin forest, and there was no debt on half of it. But there was a mortgage on the two hundred acres bought in 1918 and there were taxes on the full four hundred, and for the past three years there had not been enough money from the cotton to pay both and live on too.” In the novel Roll of thunder, Hear my cry is about a family of black people, They own 200 acres of land from a long time ago When their grandpa bought it. This is more than most black families have. This land is causing the logan family problems because Mr.
In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Stacey Logan, a privileged child that has his own land, is friends with T.J. Avery, a poor sharecropping child with few luxuries. This all takes place in Mississippi in 1933, a place of rampant segregation and racism, even after the civil war. However, even within the colored community there is conflict, as shown by Stacey Logan greatly contributing to T.J. Avery’s downfall, and refusing to stop it..
Courage is hard to have. Especially when there are people judging you. In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, there are many great acts of courage shown. In the book, Mildred Taylor writes many times when a character has to show courage. Stacey had to show courage when Papa was gone and he had to step up and be the man of the house, when, the night men attacked them, and when he had to help TJ get home and help the Avery’s.
Courage is something people need to have almost everyday. A firefighter has courage every time they run into a flaming building to save someone. Cassie is a strong and brave girl. She’s willing to do almost anything for her family. Cassie posed courage most of the time during Roll of Thunder, Hear Cy Cry by Mildred D. Taylor by stick to her convictions because she was treated unfairly throughout the book.
In both Mildred D. Taylor's book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and Paul Laurance Dunbar's poem "We Wear the Mask" it is shown that in the time around the 1930's, black people often had to put on a'mask' to survive the harsh racism that occoured. Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry shows this in abundance throughout chapter 5. An example of this is when Taylor writes "...her voice cracking as she spoke. Go on, child...apologize" (Taylor PDF 35). I feel this quote shows that Big Ma truly doesn't want to make Cassie apologise, but because of the situation she has to wear a mask to protect herself and Cassie.
Courage is the ability for standing up for someone with strength and helping people when no one will. Mildred D. Taylor's Roll of thunder, Cassie faces discrimination she shows courage for standing up for blacks rights. Her family and all African Americans are treated unfairly because of the color of their skin. She stands up for her convictions and doesn’t change her convictions. She showed courage when she stood up to Mrs. Crocker, Lillian Jean, and Mr. Barnett at the mercantile. She had a lot of things that she didn’t understand at the time.
Contrast and compare the ways in which the characters of David and Hammer Logan deal with the issue of prejudice in “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry”
In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, I think that the theme is Never give up. A character that I believe shows and displays these characteristics throughout the book is Papa also known as David Logan. One of his character traits that I believe drives the theme is his determination. Papa faces many challenges throughout the book. Some of the challenges took more time to recover from than others.
“Courage is not defined by age rather it is defined by your actions.”Throughout this novel Roll of Thunder,Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor the Logan kids learn the in’s and out’s of segregation. There were ups and downs but the land was holding them together. There are many courageous characters and one of the courageous characters are Cassie Logan.Cassie shows courage when she faces her rival Lillian Jean Simms, being willing to help T.J,and she stands up for her brother Little man.
Courage requires action, not age, strength, or toughness. In Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry Mildred D. Taylor uses Stacy as a symbol of courage during racism. Stacy is a strong, brave, courageous, mentally tough, and loyal young black child. Stacy proves is courage by fighting his rival T.J. Avery, helping T.J., and he stops a hanging with his dad and a friend of his dad’s.
Courage is doing the thing that is hard, but right. We do it if we know that it will be har or not. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry By Mildred D. Taylor created the character Stacey to show his convictions and courage. He showed this when he dug the trench for the bus, stood up to T.J by saying that he will not go to the Wallis, and when he helped Papa when he was hurt. Stacey is a sweet, kind, family loving guy.
