Macbeth by William Shakespeare places a lot of importance on women and their roles in Macbeth’s life. Throughout the story, the major female characters of the play helped set Macbeth on a path that he was going to lead him to his downfall. The Weird Sisters and Lady Macbeth helped shape Macbeth by constantly showing him glimpses of a more successful future and ways of achieving this success, but also giving him a false sense of security. The women of the play are the main cause of the downfall of Macbeth because through deception they cause him to commit murder promising he will become king, but then don’t help him when he is in danger of losing his position. In Act 1, the three Weird Sisters meet Macbeth and Banquo, and tell them that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and eventually rise to become the king of Scotland. Macbeth soon learns that King Duncan has named him the Thane of Cawdor because of his heroics on the battlefield. His new title fulfills the first part of the prophecy and leads Macbeth to believe that the second part will also become true. He promptly tells his wife about the prophecy. Lady Macbeth receives the news and immediately plots the death of King Duncan so her husband will be king. Lady Macbeth manipulates Macbeth into following her plans, and he reluctantly agrees to murder Duncan. When Macbeth is thinking about committing the murder, he seems to try to convince himself to not go through with the plan. This leads Macbeth to not be concerned about the threat from Macduff because he thinks that no man can kill him. Macbeth is soon confronted by Macduff and learns that Macduff was born unnaturally and eventually Macbeth is killed by
