If you plant a tree it will grow, however, if that seed is never planted nothing at all will develop. The same is true with evil; evil begets evil. A spark of evil can snowball into further evil. The spark the witches produced caused Lady Macbeth’s corrupt side to come about and she instigated Macbeth into killing Duncan. The witches are held responsible for all these evil events. Someone who initiates something is responsible. The three witches are responsible for instigating Macbeth. When they first meet Macbeth they say “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis!/ All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!/ All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!”(I.iii.51-53). They tell Macbeth that he will be Thane of Cawdor and then become king. After hearing the witches’ prophecies, Macbeth is confused how it is possible for him to become Thane of Cawdor and king especially when the Thane of Cawdor is alive. The witches’ first prophecy is fulfilled and it gives Macbeth confidence in their prophecy. Then Macbeth writes a letter to his wife Lady Macbeth informing her …show more content…
Through the prophecies, they plant the idea in Macbeth’s head to kill Duncan. Macbeth then informs his wife, Lady Macbeth, in a letter which leads to her corrupt side coming out. Lady Macbeth has an ambition so she pushes and convinces Macbeth by taunting him and calling him a coward which leads him to making sure that he kills both Duncan and Banquo. The witches’ prophecies trigger the spiral of events. Because of the witches the powerful force of ambition is unleashed within Lady Macbeth. Lady MacBeth first schemes the treachery of murdering the King. She manipulates her husband and convinces him to go through with the murder. But before the murder, Macbeth is still a good man. When contemplating the terrible deed he seems to be changing his mind, but encouragement from his wife and the prophecies lead him
The unchecked ambition displayed by Macbeth causes him to make a series of poor decisions that ultimately lead to his downfall. Initially, Macbeth hesitates to act on the witches' prophecy, but his wife, Lady Macbeth, convinces him to murder King Duncan to take the throne. This act of betrayal sets off a chain of
To begin, the witches are the catalyst to Macbeth’s crimes because the convince him that he will become king. Macbeth first meets the witches while returning from a gruesome battle and it is safe to say that they greet him with some audacious titles. They initially greet him as the Thane of Glamis and the Thane of Cawdor, but it is their final greeting which has the greatest effect on Macbeth. The witches hail Macbeth as someone “that shalt be king hereafter!” (1.3.53). This ignites a fire inside Macbeth, who is an immensely ambitious person. He begins to fantasize about the luxurious life he would have if he were the king of Scotland and he suddenly has the temptation to kill King Duncan. Although the witches’ prediction is favourable, Macbeth has no reason to believe them, at least until one of their other predictions turns out to be true. This
Lady Macbeth is ambitious but lacks the morals of her husband, so in the result, she uses her ambition to help drive her husbands. Macbeth starts to feel that he needed to kill and to get rid of others
The witches led Macbeth to the wrong assumption while also telling the truth at the same time. The witches are also responsible for the deaths of Macbeth because of their evil nature. The witches are ultimately responsible for the deaths in Macbeth because of their sadistic nature. At the beginning of Macbeth, the witches plan on meeting with Macbeth after his battle against the Norwegians. After, they cast a spell, saying “Fair is foul, and foul is fair” (Shakespeare 1.1.12).
From the very beginning of the play, the witches were shown to be vile and bloodthirsty creatures. They are responsible for being the first characters to plant the idea in Macbeth's head that he should kill Duncan and later, his friend Banquo. They do this by, at first, giving Macbeth very good news about his future, “All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter.” (Iiii 48) This prophecy is what starts to turn Macbeth's thoughts to murder, for how can he be king, if Duncan is in the way?
The witches manipulate Macbeth into becoming a murdering, power-hungry evil being, by telling him, “someday you’ll be king.” “I'll drain him dry as hay. Sleep shall neither night nor day Hang upon his penthouse lid. He shall live a man forbid. Weary sev'n nights, nine times nine, Shall he dwindle, peak, and pine.” (I,i) The witches use the two other prophecies to get in the mind of Macbeth. They say that Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, and Banquo will be the father of future generations of kings. Though his bark cannot be lost, Yet it shall be tempest-tossed.They give Macbeth a false sense of security with the visions they perceive. These influential women are the ones that instill the idea of murdering the king. Macbeth lets greed get the best of him. The witches sway Macbeth into killing Duncan for the throne. “Fair is foul, and foul is fair.” (I,i) The Witches intend to turn Macbeth from his good ways, into something evil. As the only character that understands their cruelty, the witches want Macbeth dead. The witches give Macbeth the temptation to kill the king by telling him their prophecies. In the end,
To begin, the decisions Lady Macbeth makes to fulfil her ambitions for power leads to her own downfall. Firstly, Lady Macbeth manipulates Macbeth into committing the murder of Duncan as it is the only way for her to gain power. When she and Macbeth discuss the arrival of Duncan to their palace, Lady Macbeth says,
Ambition plays a large role in this tragedy. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have a very srtong ambition that drives them. Lady Macbeth's ambition drives her to manipulate Macbeth into committing murder. Macbeth's aggressive ambition is present before the witch's
They have just won a battle and are making their way home across the moor when they see three women. They prophesise that Macbeth will be Thane of Glamis, then Thane of Cawdor, and finally King of Scotland. Macbeth knows he is already Thane of Glamis, but neither of the other two promised. However as the witches disappear into thin air, Ross and Angus enter, bringing news of the Thane of Cawdor's impending death. The King has announced Macbeth as Thane of Cawdor, as the previous Thane committed treasons which are punishable by death, so that two of the three prophesies have come true, which immediately unsettles the atmosphere of the play.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth portrays evil as a perversion of human nature through Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s betrayal of Duncan and the repercussions of their actions. Murdering Duncan is not the best way for Macbeth to gain the power promised to him, he and his wife fall into a downward spiral that ends in death.
Lady Macbeth is shown as being a very dominant, ambitious, and power driven person at the very beginning of the play when she is first introduced. When Lady Macbeth first appears in the play, she is learning of the witches prophesies from a letter sent to her by Macbeth. The witches prophesies reveals that Macbeth is destined to be King. When Lady Macbeth finds out that her husband, Macbeth was going to be King to the throne, she automatically sets her sights on obtaining that power. At this point in the Lady Macbeth plans for King Duncan to be killed in order for Macbeth to be on the throne, and for Lady Macbeth to obtain the power that she craves and desires so much. However, she does not believe that Macbeth is strong enough to do what she need him to do. So she
Macbeth informs his wife Lady Macbeth of the previous events through a letter. She is ecstatic when realising one of the predictions from the witches has already come true. She sets her mind on obtaining the throne for her husband by any means necessary. Lady Macbeth also has a strong desire for power but can only gain this through her husband. She becomes the driving force behind the wicked deed of murdering the King. She summons upon evil spirits to make sure nothing will stand in the way of her plan:
The witches are partly to blame for Macbeth's downfall by equivocation and misleading information. Near the beginning of the play, the witches say that Macbeth "shalt be king hereafter", foretelling what happens in the play. In this scene,
Evil is a destructive force; it causes harm to those who embrace it and their victims. In Shakespeare 's Macbeth, the protagonist Macbeth and Lady Macbeth fall into the hands of evil. Evil is what drives people to commit unnatural actions of destruction. Macbeth succumbs to evil through his fatal flaw, greed, and it causes him to disrupt the chain of being. When Macbeth willingly murders, massacres, lies and deceives, he loses his heath and sanity. Evil corrupts everything it touches, and Macbeth decides to be evil 's servant. But, when Macbeth embraces evil, it corrupts him, and it ultimately destroys him as well. Lady Macbeth is a victim of Macbeth 's fatal flaw, since she is drawn in, and becomes greedy
Good and evil are symbolized by light and darkness in the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare. When there is peace and good, Shakespeare mentions light; whether if it is the sun shining brightly or merely a candle giving light. On the other hand, when there is evil and disorder, he mentions darkness; a shadow or a horrible thunderstorm. Witches are known for evil, chaos, and conflict. Since Witches are known to be evil, whenever they appear, the weather is usually horrible. Shakespeare utilizes light and darkness in order to portray when good or evil will take place.
