The Cow Cavalry were small militia groups formed to protect the inner part of Florida. The small groups were made up of ranchers and cowhands. Union soldiers would hold raids to capture the cattle and the Navy union would conduct raids across the coast to destroy the salt works plants, and eventually capture or force the abandonment of Fort Myers. The whole point of the Cow Cavalry was to protect the cattle, salt works, and small towns in south Florida.

As explained earlier, one of the reasons why First Bull Run occurred was because of General Beauregard his army attacked Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, North Carolina. It was devastating, so the Union (North) decided to plan to get revenge. Their plan was to march thirty miles to the Bull Run and hopefully defeat the Confederates (South). Unfortunately there were spies on the Union (North) side at the moment trying to see what the Union (North) was planning so the Confederates (South) heard what the Union (North) was planning, the spies went and told General Beauregard. Crazy Horse is apart of the Oglala Lakota tribe and is from Rapid City, SD.  He lived from 1840 to 1877.  Crazy Horse is most famous for “Battle of Little Bighorn” and resisting being put on a reservation.  During this time he was constantly running and fighting. But, he surrendered eventually.  Of course not by choice though.

Many would not even consider being able to play 2 sports in college. Too much practice and not enough time is what some excuses are to being on two collegiate athletic teams. There is one girl at the University of West Alabama who is breaking the mold on dual-sport athletes.

In 1947, Florida State University named itself the Seminoles. They did this in order to show the strength of and the pride in the Seminole heritage of Florida. Contributions of a lesser known African American, John Horse, helped to define the Seminole people as the “unconquered people” that they are so celebrated for in Florida today.

On October 12, 1963 one of the greatest bull riders was born. Lane Frost was on of the highest ranked bull riders’ in the world. Lane died in Cheyenne, Wyoming on July 30th, 1989.

All great legends in history must be honored for their sacrifice and leadership that marks a path in recent history. This is why one of the most patriotic and legendary warriors of the Old West known as Crazy Horse is still considered a historical symbol. Crazy Horse was a true American Indian whose independent and fierce spirit during a battle aids as an example of how a leader ought to be. His journey is a celebration of his time and his legacy. Let us reminisce about this era and how Crazy Horse arose to be a fearless Lakota leader.

Like Sydney, I am always living in the moment. I yearn for adventure (like randomly choosing to move to California), and I believe that’s how a person builds character. Just recently, my dad won in his 3-year battle against cancer, and his positive attitude changed my perception of life. I now valued the life of today because tomorrow isnt always promised. As dark as that sounds, it’s true and instead of being scared of life, I decide to embrace what it brings. Another aspect that reinforces my belief is where I come from; Hawaii is an itty-bitty island compared to the world and although people see it as paradise (it is), I sometimes saw it as a barrier. I’ve met people back home that’s never been out of the state, and it worried me. I didn’t want that island to be the only thing I knew, and I grew more determined to move on and learn more. I submerged myself in the city of growth, where everyone comes to make a name for themselves, and it is completely different from Hawaii, but that’s exactly what I came for. Being here right now is already giving me more experience than some people back home, and deciding to be here is already making me feel like a better

Barrel racing is one of the most unique events at a rodeo. It takes a lot of time and effort to get your horse and yourself to learn the barrel pattern and know how to correctly go around the barrels. Once you start to race you’ll never want to stop it’s probably one of the most funnest and competitive things you can do. During barrel racing there are a few things you should know that will help to a successful run. Might want to have a wonderful trainer that will always be there to help, need know the gear needed for this event, and might not know but need to regular exercises with your horse everyday.

A Determined Era The American West was full of grit, workers with sweat on their brows, and determination in their hearts. Everything was done by hand or on the back of a horse, and the only law around was the gun. Between the years of 1800 to 1870, Americans embraced this lifestyle with full force, and were ready to face any obstacles that stood in their way. The country’s population was growing, and settlers were moving west as fast as the government expanded the nation’s borders.

“What are you doing next weekend?” “Going to a rodeo.” “Oh... what about the next weekend?” “I have another rodeo.” I guess you could say that rodeo is kind of a big deal for me. That I’m a “Rodeo Nerd.” Whether it’s being in them, or just watching them. I love rodeos. I have many reasons to love them! Like for example, rodeos are always a ton of fun, you're always meeting new people from all kinds of places, and last but not least the cowboys!

This picture depicts a rodeo taking place, the cowboys and their horses are competing. Around the arena we can see families gathered to watch this sport take place. The cowboys are wearing their traditional attire which includes button up shirts, jeans and chaps and spurs. The horses wear saddles to provide rider more comfort and stability.

5 years from now my career goal that I have set for myself is to graduate from an approved nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN). After graduation I hope to be promoted at the hospital I am woking at to start working as a registered nurse

A wise man once said, "Time takes it all, whether you want it to or not." I have always planned for the future then sometimes it's not as I expected it to be. I used to live in Raleigh, North Carolina and thought I would be there forever. I never really thought about moving as a result it didn’t bother me until one day. I was told we are moving to South Carolina, I honestly thought that it was the worst thing ever. Change may not be as bad as you might think it is. Who knows, you may like change better.
