In cinema, there are many memorable scenes, but few are as iconic as a Rocky training montage. The horns from the montage’s music blast a feeling of triumph as you watch the fictional character, Rocky Balboa, train. The emotions from this scene can make the laziest person feel like they can run ten miles without the feeling of fatigue. Rocky is a series of six movies about a fictional boxer named Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone, and the triumphs of his boxing career. Rocky has an exhilarating boxing match as an underdog in each one of his movies. Also, in all the movies, there is often a singular theme of perseverance despite any of the hardships Rocky must face. The same theme can be found in the spin-off of the Rocky series, Creed. Creed takes place after Rocky’s retirement from boxing. The new protagonist, Adonis Creed, is the illegitimate child of the late former heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed. Adonis receives help from Rocky to pursue his career boxing professionally. Along his journey, Adonis comes into contact with many characters that portray the same characteristic of being able to persevere through their challenges and afflictions. Although there seems to be a singular message, Creed’s recurring theme of perseverance can be expressed in many ways because of the various adversities each character had to overcome. Bianca is a prime example of showing perseverance because she continues to follow a passion that she knows she cannot sustain. Despite
Imagine hammering away at your goal to either succeed in a life goal or face a hardship in life and persevere through it. To demonstrate this, Farah Ahmedi undertook the mission of crossing the Afghanistan border to get to Pakistan in search of a better life. LeBron James persevered though fans full of hatred after he left his home team and joined a new team. Finally, Aengus tackled the expedition of trying to find true love he wanted but never found it. However, two characters had tons of persistence and determination in order to push through a hard time and all of them had the perseverance to try to succeed in their goal.
The part about the Rocky statue that makes it so universal is that it represents the tale of an underdog. This underdog tale not only relates to Philadelphians, but it inspires people everywhere. An interview was conducted where boxers were asked to talk about Rocky’s impact on Philadelphia. Justin Sargus, a boxer in Philadelphia says “The impact it has had on fighters, and what they think they can do, and endure, and the way they go about training and style is certainly still felt today. A world championship is a possibility, based from being a relative unknown”. (Dinero 1) The statue gives Philadelphia something monumental to stand on and something to represent all the hardship the city has been through. The Rocky character also embraces the culture, and lifestyle of a true Philadelphian. He eats at the same restaurants, runs through the same streets, and speaks like a Philadelphia. This gives the statue a personal connection to the people of the city, one they can claim as their own. The places and stores seen in the movie are very popular tourist attractions in the city. Zeke Ferguson from Di Brunos Bros, a popular site from the movie says “It is an iconic story of an underdog which I think all Philadelphians have been at, at one time or another, and it shows you can succeed in the face of overwhelming odds” (Dinero 1) The city is filled with an enormous amount of diversity and just as the city and its people have been through hard times, so has Rocky. The statue also appeals to people worldwide not only because of its iconic underdog story, but because of its ability to appeal on a personal level. Whenever failure is upon someone, Rocky inspires them to come back strong because if you work hard you can achieve your goals. Justin Sargus says “The thing about the Rocky movies is that they make it seem like you can take an enormous amount
In Don’t Give Up the Fight perseverance is showed in most of the text. For example, Jacob a boy on the track team said “If you beat me to the tree I believe you.” This is important to notice because, this shows that Jacob thinks that Ava can’t win any races. Also, the boys were making fun of her on the bus because she was very quiet. So, the boys asked, “Are you dead?” Because Ava didn’t answer the boys the first time. But, what really hurt her was when she saw coach McCoy laughing when the boys said something really mean. This is important to notice because, she was traumatized from coach McCoy
The author portrays the message and theme of persistence, resilience, and grit throughout the entire story. We understand
Creed, is a movie that performances by Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, Apollo Creed’s son, Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, and Tessa Thompson as Bianca was directed by Ryan Coogler. Adonis Johnson, who is the son of former heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, was living in the youth facility when Mary Anne, Creed’s widow visited him and decided to adopt him. Adonis work as a professional, but he was not satisfied with his current life. Mary Anne was so disappointed with him because Adonis’s father passed away in the ring, and she did not want Adonis to follow his dad’s step. Despite the fact that he wanted to pursue his dream to work as a professional fighter, he gave up his current job and went to Philadelphia. He found Rocky Balboa there and he requested Balboa to become his mentor and trained him. In the process of becoming a professional fighter, Adonis went through challenges. Even though Adonis faces challenges in life, he overcomes them because he never gives up.
Americans may be altruistic, but we Russians are winners. My arrogant trainer wants me to win for himself and Mother Russia, and not for me. My wife disparages all Americans as if they are undeserving, worthless humans. They continuously tell me to stay taciturn, but I know deep down that I should voice my opinion. That American “Rocky” is the antithesis of the Russian machine Drago. When I am done with him, his face will be crenelated. It was a given that the fight promoters would always try to embellish a fight, but this fight needed no extra promotion or incentive to come. The whole world would be watching. I have laud Rocky for his story. He came from nothing and now is here with one of the most powerful men in the world. With all of Russia counting on me, and all of America counting on Rocky, I knew the match would be anything but subtle. The fight was given the superfluous name of “World War III”. When I killed Apollo Creed in the ring, I felt no discern for what I had done. All I could think was how proud I had made my country. Not that I had just murdered a man. As the press promoted the fight more and more, my disdain for all of America grew.
Many people today have perseverance but some do not. Perseverance is another word for not giving up and pushing through difficult obstacles while other may not. Others don't have perseverance because they are tired of fighting or the fighting has gone way too far where they have to just give up. In the book “Can’t Look Away” Torrey Grey is a 15 year old girl, who is famous for her vlogs and youtube videos about fashion and makeup. This beauty guru has a family of 4, Torreys parents and her younger sister Miranda. Miranda is 12 years old when she dies because a drunk driver hits her while she was crossing a crosswalk. This was a huge impact on Torrey’s life but not only Torrey’s but her mother. But this did not stop Torrey from becoming popular
Sylvester Stallone was successful while using attitude because he kept a positive mental attitude. He didn’t have much as an adult and child Stallone was given a nod by united artists for $125,000 but only if Stallone would not star in it but he refused since he could not star in it. He was offered more money and he refused until finally they would allow him to play the role of rocky but would only pay him $35,000 and a percentage of profits as a concession. According to page 24 in the book A TEEN’S GAME PLAN FOR LIFE by Lou Holtz “I cannot emphasize the importance of having a good attitude. When you get up in the morning, the attitude you choose is the most critical thing that you do.” Since Stallone did not give up and refused to be in a
After listening to the song “No Easy Way Out” by Robert Tepper I have found a very good message within it. This song is about the fact that life isn’t always going to be easy and sometimes you are going to get knocked down and you have to push through. This song was made for the movie Rocky IV which is the fourth installment into the Rocky movie franchise. The movie gives the song a lot of its relevance because you need to fight your way through the hard times and give it all you’ve got just like Rocky does during his training and boxing matches. One of the lyrics in the song says “some things are worth fighting for” which really exemplifies that we should fight for the things we want, love, and care about most.
Don't neglect your strength and conditioning training. Your MMA training on its own will get do wonders for your fitness, but if you supplement your training with strength and conditioning(S&C), you will reap the benefits in the long term. Many MMA gyms will be well equipped for S&C training and may even have conditioning sessions as part of their timetable, but if not make sure you find time to work on your strength and conditioning. It's not just lifting iron and jumping rope, modern MMA training utilises many types of conditioning techniques for fighters including everything from flipping giant tyres to altitude mask training.
Many individuals see Rocky's potential, however Rocky never observes it himself until he substantiates himself wrong by testing Apollo Creed. A posse in the city even says, "You'll make a million dollars," and Gazzo gives him five hundred dollars for preparing. Like the puppy he received, nobody demonstrates any enthusiasm for Rocky, yet they both in the long run discover a specialty or "calling." Adrian is one of the greatest professors in Rocky. Despite the fact that she is dreadful of the game, Rocky cases he can not "sing or move," so he should work at something he can do and demonstrates an enthusiasm for. He is an enthusiastic character by and large, putting off an extreme outside yet loaded with good
The film The Wrestler takes advantage of society’s deep-rooted beliefs of domesticity. It teases and plays with one’s heart until the very end when the master narrative is surprisingly overthrown. Through its cinematic realism and clever marriage of typical plot structure and unconventional resolution, The Wrestler creatively rejects this master narrative of domesticity.
From Gold's Gym in Venice Beach California to the showdown in Pretoria, amateur and professional bodybuilders prepare for the 1975 Mr. Olympia and Mr. Universe contests in this part-scripted, part-documentary film. Five-time champion Arnold Schwarzenegger defends his Mr. Olympia title against Serge Nubret and the shy young deaf Lou Ferrigno, whose father is his coach the ruthless champ psyches out the young lion. Sardinian Franco Columbu competes in the lightweight class; at home in Italy he solves a tight parking problem by lifting the car into place. Joe Weider is the marketer; Mike Katz and Ken Waller go for the title of Mr. Universe. Bodybuilding and a celebrity to be go mainstream. This partly real and partly scripted film documents what
I met Bianca for the first time in November and was not only touched by her story, but imensely impacted by the way she loved to live.
Watching Rocky thought me a lot of things. First of all rocky was a humble, kind-hearted and hard- working person. But nobody really knew his greatest talent. He had many jobs, working in a meat warehouse and as a debt collector, Rocky then started as a small time club fighter when finally they offered him shot at the world heavyweight championship. Rocky never really found himself while doing the jobs he did until he recognizes that fighting was all he knows. This thought me that if you want something you should never give up and keep fighting for what you want. If you are good at something you should keep doing what you do best and do what you love.
