American society went through multiple changes after the first Great War and many more after the second. The Great War is known as World War I, which America did not join until 2-3 years after it started. American society is very diverse, so the likelihood of change was high. Americans are known for standing up for what they believe in. Therefore, when there was a prohibition on alcohol people stood up. Women stood up to get their rights. The rock and roll era people stood up and stood out with their clothing and movements. African Americans stood up for equality and the American public demanded to know what was going on with the President during the Watergate incident. Beginning in the early 1970s, rock songs began to be used in a few television commercials (US History). The rock and roll lifestyle was popularly associated with sex and drugs. Musicians had always attracted attention of "groupies." As the stars' lives became more public, recreational drug use by musicians may have influenced the public to see the use of drugs as acceptable. For example, the Beatles, who started publicly using LSD, many of their fans also did LSD to follow. Rock music had an impact on fashion. "Rockers" were people who wore motorcycle leathers In the 1960s; The Beatles brought mop-top haircuts and blazers into fashion. Rockers were willing to do the hippie fashion and popularized long hair. With rock music, what the artist wore became important almost like the music itself. The clothing defined the artist's message to the audience clearer (US History). Glam rock became featured glittery fashions and high heels. In 1972, several burglars were arrested inside the office of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), which was located in the Watergate building in Washington, D.C (Washington Post). The burglars were connected to President Richard Nixon’s reelection campaign, and they were caught attempting to wiretap phones. It became a conspiracy because the American people didn’t wan tot believe that a president would do something like this. Nixon continued to say that he did not know about the wiretapping, but some evidence says otherwise, so historians struggle on whether or not he knew about
