Happy July 1st everyone! I decided to carve out a bit of the day today to compose a celebratory post in honor of Ms. Olivia deHavilland's 99th birthday.

In doing my little bits of "research," I surprised myself in that I discovered that to date, I have never really put together a write up exclusively about one of my favorite actresses of the "classic" Hollywood era. Now is great as time as any, right?
So, in addition to the films I have already covered, which include ...
Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) A personal all time fave and essential viewing for those who want to see the legendary deHavilland/Errol Flynn chemistry is all its Technicolor glory.
The Snake Pit (1948) Here, deHavilland delivers one of her most powerful dramatic

here are a few more films from her prolific career that I consider personal favorites:
In This Our Life (1942) The follow up to John Huston's prodigious directorial debut (The Maltese Falcon) is a melodrama of high order, but top marks for being a rare film of its time in attempt to deal with racial discrimination in a somewhat realistic manner.
To Each His Own (1946) and The Heiress (1949) - Both of the films earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. And both are notable for how each character transitions from ingénue to a woman who realizes the truths of this world.
Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte (1964) - A film from her later period and if I am to be honest, I probably like the whole of the film more than her individual performance in it. In this Robert Aldrich thriller, she plays Miriam (cousin to the titular Charlotte, played by Bette Davis), a woman whose character arc takes a decidedly curious turn by the end of the story. A piece of trivia: de Havilland was a recast; Miriam was initially to be portrayed by Joan Crawford, in a part that would be a reunion of her and Davis off of the recent success of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? It was at the suggestion of costar and friend Bette Davis that Olivia be considered for the
Lily Tomlin, better know as Violet Newstead from the movie 9 to 5 really came into the role and performed greatly. Her character, Violet Newstead, was hard-working and had a vision of success. She knew what she wanted and she knew that she deserved it. You could see how much the 3rd Wave Feminism affected her because towards the second half of the movie you saw her become more powerful in her ways. She is more forceful and demanding because she knows that no matter what gender she is, she deserved what she was asking for. She worked hard for that promotion and Mr. Hart gave it to a man just because the job wasn’t fit for a women.
Her favorite movies were Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, The Fiddler on the Roof, The Devil Wears Prada, the Princess Bride and many more. Her favorite books were the Harry Potter series, the Hunger Games and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. She also liked to listen to music and her favorite artists were Taylor Swift and Grace Vanderwaal. She also loved Broadway and would listen to the soundtracks very often.
In 1920 she made several films, The Tiger’s Coat, Riding with Death and I Can Explain. Tina left acting to explore photography.
The actress appeared in the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show as "Janet" who becomes involved with Dr Frankfurter. Her appearance in the film, bolted her to instant fame and stardom.
The debate over Casablanca and Citizen Kane has been a classic argument between film critics and historians alike because both of these pieces contain great cinematographic value, and are timeless pictures that have managed to captivate audiences well beyond their era. However, the real question at hand is which film is the greatest? Which film transformed the future of American film making? It is these questions that I as many others have, will attempt to answer in the following essay as I explain why I believe Citizen Kane has achieved the status of greatest film ever made.
the movie scene in Hollywood. Her beauty and allure are only surpassed by her rapaciousness and
Michael Ritchie and Jane Anderson's 1993 TV movie, THE POSITIVELY TRUE ADVENTURES OF THE ALLEGED TEXAS CHEERLEADER-MURDERING MOM set the gold standard, in my opinion, for blistering, darkly comedic social satire. It depicted a uniquely American experience of a mother (Holly Hunter), who takes the "family first" concept too far by getting way too involved in her daughter's life. When I heard that director Craig Gillespie (LARS AND THE REAL GIRL) and screenwriter Steven Rogers (HOPE FLOATS) had set out to tackle the story of disgraced Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding, I immediately thought of the aforementioned predecessor. I love dark satire, counting NETWORK, ELECTION, and DR. STRANGELOVE amongst my all-time favorite films.
Last weekend I watched the movie Mommie Dearest a biographical film, depicting the life of the celebrated glamour star Joan Crawford. The film was an adaptation of the exposé written by her adopted daughter Christina Crawford. This movie is mainly about the dysfunctional relationship between a perfectionist mother and her adopted daughter. It is also a story about ageism at a time when the fantasy of Hollywood glamour was being sold and aging actresses were put out to pasture so to speak. When Joan realizes that her popularity and success are in a downswing her life begins to unravel. As she is forced to face the realities of life she descends into a world of alcoholism and abusive behavior (Perry, Jr.).
Marilyn started off being in movies but she was never really the “star” of the film until 1953 when the movie Niagara came out. This movie is a very drama filled film. In this film Marilyn “Rose” is on a trip to Niagara Falls with her older husband George, they meet another couple there, Polly and Ray. Once they get to know each other Polly thinks Ray and Rose have something going on between them. In the end Ray and Rose were planning on killing Rose’s husband George. This was Marilyn’s biggest movie that made her popular. In the same year Marilyn starred in a movie called Gentleman Prefer Blondes. This film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. This is a big accomplishment not just for the movie but also for Marilyn as a person. Marilyn Monroe was not just a star in movies, she also was the first Playboy Playmate in 1953.
That from her ideal her audience is in Hollywood ever one that want to pass the time with a good Tv show or movie. But her true one is empowered black woman and some men that want see the change to see the new look of Hollywood. Where how to get away with murder has is number eight spot for must see show and got a 92% on rotten tomato. Where what other show except scandal has gotten review like that. Then not mention but in every movie that viola Davis has been, has never gotten at under an 80% on box office reviews and never below 70% on rotten tomatoes. Where she makes gold with just being in the movie or Tv show. Where it was her role that she had with jalo was what made me fan. Even though ever one said it was her worst. But it was only from her having to support jalo’s bad acting in the movie. Viola also is the main back bone to grand movie that you are going to see.
Marilyn’s career as an actress spanned over 16 years. She made 29 films and 24 of those were released in her first 8 years as an actress. Everyone in this day and age can agree that Marilyn Monroe was an amazing actress. Many people try to play her in movies and pose as
One of her biggest inspirations must have been her teacher Otakar Vávra who was a film director in Czechoslovakia. He had students including Milos Forman, Ivan Passer and Jiri Menzel who were all directors in the Czech New Wave. He has probably encouraged Věra to stand firmly by her own actions and to say in an interview by Galina Kopaněvová “I don't know any action that would not be risky”. This has inspired many filmmakers around the globe and especially female filmmakers. Technically the film stands out from most other films in the world, which has inspired the world of cinema.
Among some of the well-remembered film appearances which garland played, one of the most famous role was acting as Dorothy in the movie the wizard of Oz back in 1939. She has been involved in record breaking
Audrey Hepburn’s rise to fame was very slow. After World War II ended, when Audrey was fifteen, she and her mother moved to London. There she studied on a ballet scholarship and worked part-time as a model. Soon, she started playing little parts in British movies and taking acting classes. While filming her first good role, “Monte Carlo Baby” the famous French author of Gigi, Collette, discovered her. Audrey went on to play Gigi in the Broadway play, on November 24, 1951, which had a successful run of six months.
