Many Horses have dramatic stories of when they are raced and competed, they get hurt. Then the Horse can no longer compete and make the owner money. The owner then gets rid of the Horse or just leaves it to die. The cruel Horse owner wants more money and starts the horrible process over. I’ve always known about the mistreatment with animals, Horses in particular, but I’ve never been able to do anything about it. Now I know what to do about the cycle of abuse. That disgusting process with Horses doesn’t have to happen to as many Horses thanks to the funding of Horse Charities of America that sponsors many other charities that rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes Horses to heal not just the gentle giants,
Make sure the horse’s head is behind the vertical when riding. They don’t need to breathe! It won’t even hurt their neck! A horse’s head is meant to be pulled down to it’s neck, so air has trouble getting in through their nose and into their lungs. Nobody’s head hurts after looking down all day, either.
There is a lot of hard work put into this job, maintaining the health of all the animal patients. The overall job description of a veterinarian is a doctor who, “care[s] for the health of animals and work[s] to improve public health. They diagnose, treat, and research medical conditions and diseases of pets, livestock, and other animals” (Veterinarian). Vets also provide emergency care for injured animals as well as provide euthanization for animals unable to be treated effectively. There are several different kinds of vets, each with different daily tasks and patients to work on. The type of vet everyone usually first thinks of is a Clinical Vet, also known as a Companion animal Veterinarian. They treat regular household pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, etc. This type of vet’s work environment usually includes being in private clinics and animal hospitals most of the time but can travel to farms and homes if needed. This is the most common field veterinarian students pursue. Another type is Equine Veterinarian. This type of vet focuses just on treating and caring for horses. They spend most of their times on ranches, and also at places like horse racing tracks and shows. Large Animal Veterinarians treat large farm animals such as horses, cows, sheep and pigs. A branch of this type of veterinarian is a Food Animal Veterinarian, who work towards improving public health by treating animals that

In class we have always talked about how in the winter there are going to be less people taking riding lessons because it is cold, snowing, the roads are bad etc. In addition we have also talked about how having horses that are “free loaders” can greatly reduce the amount of income you make. For example, at Hollywood equine there are currently 21 horses. 2 of these horses and 1 pony are “free loaders”, meaning they are not used for lessons or leased and they are owned by Heather so there is no board being paid for them either. In total they eat 6qt of hay stretcher a day, 2qt fiber max a day, and 2qt senior a day. For grain alone this comes to about

Using a whip is controversial to many people because of the pain the horse feels just to entertain people. In Australia “the shift in social acceptance of whipping tired horses in the name of sport and must get the attention of the . . . racing industry.”(McGreevy, para 5). Horses are euthanized after they are no longer able to perform in race tracks because of injuries and can not recuperate.Horses have similar conditions to bulls but they practice everyday to prepare for
Clean water should always be available at all time. Horses will die within two to three days if they do not have access to water. The amount of water needed by horses will greatly depend on the weather, age and physical activity done by the horse. Proper nutrition is crucial for maximum horse health. To ensure the wellbeing of horses, it is important to add pellets, salt and supplements to their diet. Not only is proper nutrition necessary to fight illness, but it helps to build muscle and provide warmth.
