At the beginning of the series, Rick wakes from a coma ad finds himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Similar to the man, Rick values his family more than anything. After he wakes from the coma, the first thing Rick does is travel to Atlanta, GA in search of his wife, Lori, and son, Carl. Rick is a former sheriff deputy and is a key leader of the survivors group. Although we expect the man to have some military background, we aren’t entirely sure but we know he has strong survival skills like Rick. Rick and the man also share being incredibly protective over their sons in the apocalypse. Similar to the man in The Road, Rick tries to retain his son’s innocence but his extremely hesitance to welcoming non-group members to the group tests his brutality. At one point, Rick kills anyone who approaches the group. The man is not this extreme but similarly, the man doesn’t allow anyone to travel his him and his son for more than one night (Elly). Rick and the man also share a tendency to place blame on themselves. When the boy forgets to close the gas tank valve and all the gas leaks out, the man takes blame for forgetting to check that the valve was closed. Rick blames himself for the death of his best friend Shane and wife Lori because he is the leader of the group, however it wasn’t really his fault. I think the catharsis of the film was the end where they are showing Ricks rise to being a hero and then his fall to being seen as a villain. In this part there really was no feeling of fear or pity since they made it in such a way that it was fluid and you knew what was going to happen and actually accepted it, since Rick had done a lot of bad things before his one good decision. At this point you are happy to see that Rick has decided to change his life for the better, but also are happy that he has to still pay somewhat for the crimes he has done.

Before Rick was sent to juvinile detention all he cared about was being the best rugby player and winning a championship. He quickly changed after he realized its more important to help others and surround yourself with people who want you to succeed. When people watch this they will realize that they should help others especially if they are willing to help you in return. Satire is a way of making a serious subject talked about without all of the seriousness that goes along with it. It is used to poke fun at serious topics, for example, politics by using exaggeration and parody. In a show like The Simpsons, satire is used in every episode and even though it is meant to be light to make viewers laugh, it is somewhat educational because they are using real-life situations in the show. An article “Beyond a joke: Teaching Satire Using The Simpsons” by Jan Doyle said “Rather than making our classrooms more lounge-roomish, The Simpsons is a powerful tool for teaching the value of social comment, irony and an insight into expressive potential of satire (Doyle, 1999)”. This quote shows that even though the show is meant for entertaining the public, it is also used to inform people as well about real life. I believe that the satirical aspect of the show being used to inform viewers would only be very effective for adolescents because when I was a young child, I did not fully understand what was the reason for some of the things that were being shown on that TV show because being a child, you are not as aware of what is going on in the media because children usually do not watch the news.

At the end of the clip, Rick and Morty have come to an agreement. Morty will choose their next adventure, and if it’s a good one, then Morty will get to choose every tenth adventure. This bet between Morty and Rick allows them both to view themselves as the ‘winner’ of the argument. This might seem like an indication of a win-win orientation, but because they both view the other as the ‘loser’ of the argument, the conflict actually has a win-lose orientation. Morty believes that his adventure will be great, and that he will be allowed to pick more adventures in the future, but Rick believes that Morty’s adventure will be lame and therefore, Rick will continue to pick all future adventures. Had Rick compromised and allowed Morty to pick every tenth adventure, without meeting the conditions of a bet, then the conflict would have had a win-win orientation.

As the movie progressed, the story became more fascinating and I got a general understanding of what was going on. There was some comedy in the movie, which was enjoyable. For instance, the bartender who kept saying he was in love with Rick’s “girlfriend” towards the beginning of the movie was constantly being turned down. However, the romantic part of this movie wasn’t the greatest. Since the producer had only shown a brief history of their relationship, I felt that there should have been more chemistry between Rick and Ilsa. She had not seen him since the night she had left him at the train station in Paris. The next time they met was at his saloon when they had recollected their time together. She showed up in his room a few days later to ask for the papers and was going to shoot him, but couldn’t bring herself to do it. Although Ilsa betrayed Rick, he was still willing to do everything for her even if he didn’t show it. The key point of their love was to show the audience that not all love is loyal. Especially due to distance, it can be hard to maintain a relationship when a person doesn’t know what their significant other is doing. The adventures and often misadventures of this grandson and grandpa duo along with their family members are a delight and often downright absurd to watch. There are moments of preposterous incidents that'll leave with a stupefied expression and then immediately sent you off into fits of laughter. It is a highly entertaining show, where their exploits cross over multiple universes and dimensions and often end up interacting with beings from another world, trying to catapult the series into the fringes of possible realms within comprehension. Throughout the episode, there was a very clear sense of what everyone was fighting for. They were fighting for their friends, family, and their future. Rick is fighting for the future as well as his personal vengeance against Negan.

     Rick is the morally ambiguous night club owner, who hides a sentimentality behind a neutral facade.

According to Jim Piper, “Films aren’t just about people; they are also about the relationships people make…Often, in fact, a relationship is the movie” (159). It is Rick’s relationships that make this movie.

The answer is not very. The creators of the show intentionally portrayed Rick’s alcoholism as inconsequential because in the grand scale of the universe, the issues of one man, or any collection of people, seems relatively insignificant. The depiction of alcoholism is unethical, but the show’s purpose is to blur the harsh lines between right and wrong into more of a grey area. A contrived moral code is unimportant when looking at the universe as a whole. Rick’s perspective of the universe is best summed up in his signature catchphrase, “Wubba lubba dub dub”, which from Birdperson language translates into, “I am in great pain, please help me”. The Walking Dead first starts out in a small town hospital in Georgia, where the main character awakens from a coma caused from a gunshot wound. He is unaware that there are hoards of zombies or “walkers” beyond his hospital room door. He was the sheriff of the town before the outbreak and now has to find his way out of the hospital. He stumbles across a man named Morgan Jones and his son Duane while walking through the town who explain what has happened. They help him by supplying him with weapons and rumors on the CDC but cannot go with him because it is dangerous outside of their town. Rick, the main character, is a natural leader and has his head on straight which is why many people follow him throughout the show.
