Argumentative Synthesis
No matter how much we hate waking up early for school or studying all night for those tests and exams, most of us know that education is very important. Education aims at developing and bringing out the best of a student’s inner personality and self. I believe the aim of education is to learn and grow as an individual and be able to pursue a career that best fits you. Richard Rodriguez,
Marry Louis Pratt and Paulo Freier all come from different back rounds and settings of their views on education and experiences. I will be discussing Richard Rodriguez experience on education, and Marry Pratt Louise views on it as well as Paulo Freire thoughts on education and how all of these compare to my view of the aim of education.

She then moves on to talk about a term repeated by Pratt throughout the piece, “the contact zone”. She uses this term to refer to social spaces where cultures meet, clash, and converse with each other. She then opens up to the “Guaman Poma”, which was a few hundred pages long and written in the early sixteen hundreds. The purpose this type of text is to challenge an everyday system and the writers use the framework of the system to their advantage but the letter was never received to the King. Towards the end of the essay Mary Pratt talks about her experience at Stanford University. She discusses how teaching has changed and the education system is the most efficient way to teach the students. Marry Pratt Louise’s aim of education is very similar to mine of education is to learn and grow as an individual and be able to pursue a career that best fits you. I feel she agrees to this in with the thought of education learning and …show more content…
I have always been taught to work as hard as possible from my parents. My parents provide an exceptional role model to me today, with my dad owning a shipping business and my mom being a nurse. They have always wanted the best out of me and wanted me to achieve things that I will enjoy doing while growing up. My aim of education is to learn and grow as an individual and be able to pursue a career that best fits you, as I stated earlier. I think its purpose is to develop a student into a full, whole and integrated person. An educated person is supposed to face the challenges of life bravely and successfully. No person can be called properly educated if he or she fails in making a good contribution to the society and country. Education means that students are able to stand on there own feet with the hard work they have achieved
What does it mean to be well educated? To be well educated it is a balance between academics and practical knowledge. Throughout this paper I will show that one does not necessarily need a college degree to be deemed as well educated. I will explore both aspects of academics and practical knowledge and how it affects individuals.
As postmodern educators feel their way through an ever changing multicultural classroom environment, it is imperative that each hold firmly to their philosophical positions and do not let society influence them in a negative way. At the same time all teachers should be continually reflecting inwardly to make oneself accountable to their profession.
Wouldn’t it be a dull place if there weren’t differences in the world around us? Education is one of those areas where new perspectives can be obtained. Sometimes the focus is only on one area and no there is not a wide variety of information, just a select few viewpoints. Having a single viewpoint doesn’t leave too much to learn. LLV teaches how variety; whether from good open discussions, books, film, or articles can open new doors. It can also teach that new diverse opionions are the window to life and stepping stones to education. Books, film, articles, and even an array of personalities aid in the learning process. Diversity is important for life, learning, and vocation. “Only Connect” by William Cronin, Christopher
Schools deliver a collective vision of education, so philosophies matter to support this vision. When we ask, “What kind of lifelong learner do we want our students to become?” it yields a different set of answers than asking, “What do we want our students to learn?” While both questions are important, have you ever heard a parent or teacher continue to celebrate a student's ability to spell or know their multiplication tables as they head off to college or to their first job? Not likely. Yes, balanced literacy and mathematical fluency are critical, but when asked what kind of adult do I want our students to be, I focus more on the dispositions of learning and the application of skills and concepts in meaningful ways. In our healthiest classrooms students see themselves as writers, mathematicians, design thinkers, artists, activists and scientists. This begins with our youngest learners, and their experience is critical; so how do we foster inquiry and healthy dispositions of learning?
After officially retiring, Nic found himself still wanting to contribute to the educational world. He was appointed to serve as the Ernest McFarland Citizen’s Chair in Education by the Dean of Northern Arizona University College of Education. In this full-time faculty position, Dr. Clement is engaged in teaching and advocating for education throughout the State of Arizona and the nation.
Becoming an educator is very important to me. Not only am I building a relationship with children, but I am also building their brains for success. Attending school helps build my future career path and gives me the understanding of children. The position in education I would like to have is becoming a first-grade teacher working at an elementary school. The school I plan to work for is a public school meaning students are acknowledge for their independence. In this school environment, it has a lot of excitement and motivation. I have visited the school many times, and it makes you feel like you are at home. This school also provides after-care for students who needs to be watched while their parents are at work or doing something important. The after care at the school provides free tutoring, educational games, and a snack. While furthering my investigation on this career, I feel this job is a good fit for me because it provides motivation and it acknowledges you as a person. It helps provide all the satisfaction needed and more. The staff is well mannered and the facility is always clean.
An educational philosophy is a personal statement of a teacher’s goals or belief. A teacher comes to the classroom with a distinctive set of principles and ideals that affect how a student learns and expand the child’s potential in his or her venture into knowledge. I believe that education should be active, and focus on the whole child, rather than just the content or the teacher. The three (3) principles I believe that work harmoniously with my educational philosophy are the teacher acting as a facilitator to foster critical thinking, allowing the child’s natural curiosity to steer his or her learning for personal development, and
Getting educated is very important for every person. It goes without saying that each of us has to have a proper education. We learn how to read, count and write. These are the basic abilities we acquire and use during our life. Is there any other purpose of education or it is aimed only at giving us a possibility to communicate our ideas and satisfy basic needs? During centuries, there were different interpretations of the purpose of education. Many scientists, pedagogues and philosophers tried to answer the question: what is the purpose of education? Taking into consideration the needs and tendencies of a modern society, we can assume that the purpose of education is to prepare students to be self-sufficient citizens capable of solving
The term ‘education’ can mean many things. An education is the collective knowledge a person has, but what does an education mean? Although an education can be paid for, no one can physically give you an education, so it is not a gift. There are societal situations where an education is a necessity, but not many globally. Education is a tool to be utilized differently in every part of the world. Knowledge is power, but some knowledge is more powerful depending on your region. If you are part a primitive tribe in New Guinea, a person that is considered to be educated may be illiterate. Whereas in America, an illiterate person would have trouble functioning at all in society. Education is a tool that is to be
“The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create the possibilities for a child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things,” stated by Jean Piaget. Education serves many purposes; it helps a child open their eyes to the world, it provides curiosity and determination for a young adult, and it can provide middle age adults and elders with a spark of belonging and hope. To be able to achieve these purposes, the process of education must start at a young age. Singing the ABC’s to an infant, reading to a toddler, encouraging writing and math skills are a few steps towards all the possibilities a person could have in life.
The goals of education are controversial and not many people can agree on what they are. A commonly shared opinion of the “purpose of education is to prepare students for the “real world” to “succeed””. Children are constantly being prepared for the workforce and what will
In almost every culture and in all parts of the world, getting an education is valuable to a person’s future. But what is it that makes education so valuable? What is the purpose of an education starting from the early stages of a child’s development into adolescents, and from adolescents into adulthood?
Education is one of the most important things for a society to prosper and be safe which forms the character and intelligence of the individuals around the world. Education makes one able to understand what is happening in the world logically and clearly. Education enables individuals to put their potential to use and make a difference in the future. It is essential for individuals to be educated in a way that they will expand their knowledge vastly. An ideal educational model is very difficult to achieve, and is often argued over by people in society.
Every now and then I think about my education from kindergarten through senior year of high school and I wonder where I would be and who I would be without it. I have realized that those thirteen years of my life were essential to my development as an individual, for they have shaped me into the person I am today.
I believe the essence of education includes growth. The purpose of education is not to just fill our head with lots of information, but to discover your uniqueness and to teach us how to develop it, and to show us how to, in return, give it away. Once you learn something in life, you should be able to absorb it in a way to use it in your life and then in turn pass it on to someone else in order to contribute to their growth as well. I also believe that the essence of education includes knowledge and skills. Once you are educated on a matter you obtain knowledge and/or skill. Education is understood as the artificial extension of human ability to learn, as the product of learner’s own efforts (Sidorkin, 2011).
