Richard Wayne Penniman was born on December 5th, 1932 in Macon Georgia. He was third of twelve children in his family. He was born to Charlie and Leva Mae Penniman into the impoverished area of the city. The Penniman family was very religious, with both Richard's father and grandfather working as preachers in the area. In fact, church is where his singing career began when his parents formed a family singing group called 'The Penniman Singers' that consisted of Richard, his parents, and his siblings. Continuing in his religion, Richard had the opportunity to experience many different types of religion and churches. His favorite was the Pentecostal church because of its fun, dancing, and music. Richard also became a 'faith healer' in the church so that he could place his hands on people, pray for them, and they claimed to feel better afterward.

His popularity as an artist was growing and his fan base was continuously growing and becoming more diversified. Elvis Presley and Pat Boone both covered "Tutti Frutti". Boone's version outdid Little Richard's when it came to record sales. Almost directly after, Boone did a cover of "Long Tall Sally", presumably expecting the same results. This time, however, Little Richard's original recording got better reviews and peaked higher on Billboard's pop charts. The same was true when Presley and Bill Haley each released a version of "Rip It Up" and neither gained the reaction that Little Richard did. Little Richard was not only a role model for the sound of many of the pioneers of rock 'n' roll, he was an advocate for controversial issues of the time

Elvis Presley was signed to Sun Records in 1954. This was monumental for Phillips’s stand on racial boundaries in music. Elvis drew national attention to Sun Records which, in part, sparked slight popularity for other Sun artists such as Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King, and Roscoe Gordon (Sun Records 1). This point in time is known as the origin of Rock and Roll. Contrary to what Rock and Roll is now, it was only popular within a certain demographic of people for a long time
After five cutting-edge singles, Elvis’s contract was sold to RCA Records and then his career rapidly took off (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). His first number one single was “Heartbreak Hotel,” and his first album was Elvis Presley (biography.com). By 1956 Presley was an international sensation. Although many of the teenagers of Elvis’s time was very intrigued by his diverse musical styles, sexy dance moves and good looks, much of the older generations were outraged by his gyrating hips and music (biography.com). One of Elvis’s most controversial instances was on the Ed Sullivan Show where he sang “Hound Dog,” for the first time on television (Comprehensive History of Elvis Presley’s Dynamic Life). He was already considered to be a rebel and no one knew what
As a kid Elvis Presley attended the Assembly of God Church with his parents, where gospel music became an important influence in his life. On his eleventh birthday he received his first guitar from his mom in 1946, he had his first taste of musical success a few years later when he won a talent show at Humes High School in Memphis. He graduated from High school in 1953, he worked a number of jobs while pursuing his musical dream. “That’s
His appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show gave the network the highest rating at the time, and yet “Elvis the Pelvis” was shot only from waist up. His hip dusting moves was too risque for 1950s Americans, along with his nature. Yet Elvis was a very religious man; daily he would read the bible, he would never drink, and most of his songs had religious connotations. He was a humble man who remembered where he came from.Elvis Presley was born and raised in Tupelo, Mississippi. He grew up with little money, and his family lived off of welfare. During the year of 1948 Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 13, and there he was introduced to the black community. In Memphis he was a frequent singer at the Reverend H.W. Brewster’s black Memphis church where he learned gospel music.
The day was July 5th 1954, a young truck driver from Tupelo Mississippi was sitting in a recording studio in Memphis Tennessee, to his left a man wielding a guitar named Scotty Moore and to his right the bassist, Bill Black (Littleton, 2014). The studio they were sitting in was owed by a hugely successful producer named Sam Phillips. Phillips was trying to get a new label called “Sun Records” off the ground, and he had great insight that it would be with this unknown kid. The three men were recording a single that would later be named “That’s All Right”, but trying to get something new out of it, a new type of sound, something the world hadn’t heard before and something the world probably wouldn’t be ready for. They worked in the studio for hours trying to figure out a new sound that would be popular and change the face of music. Phillips had almost given up that night, he called for a break of the session (Littleton, 2014). During that break the three men in the studio started goofing around with their music, luckily Phillips was listening, and he found that sound that would make this unknown truck driver from Mississippi arguably one of the most popular artist of all time. The combination of Moore on the guitar and Black on the bass was new, fast paced, but the real change from the voice, raspy, agile and smooth all at once. It was music altering. Rock N’ Roll was born on this night, and this man was dubbed the “creator” of it, that man’s name was, Elvis Presley.
With an estimated one billion units sold and counting, Elvis Presley is thought to be the most commercially successful solo musical artist of all time (Meacham 1) Born in Tupelo Mississippi and later relocating to Memphis Tennessee, Elvis was a natural star. At just age ten he won fifth place at his first singing contest and at 11 gets his own guitar. Elvis then won a school talent show by singing and playing his guitar, earning the most applause out of any of the contestants. He would soon after that become a trucker, but his dreams of becoming a star were not crushed yet. Elvis gyrated his hips into America's heart as the most influential figure in American history.
After arriving back on the boat, Israel and the crew disagree on the name of the ship, and they started to debate what the name should be. They chose the name Bon Homme Richard, after debating, and naming it after “Poor Richard”. Israel founds himself on a fight with the Serapis, who was outnumbered by the member on the ship, Serapis having twice as many members on their boat. Both ships lost almost all the members, although, at the end, Richard had a larger advantage than Serapis did. Now, as the Richard was damaged, Israel had moved to the British ship, Ariel. He used the alias Peter Perkin as his identity. At first, the crew on Ariel did not believe him, because they thought he was not one of their “man”, but Israel proved to the
He then landed a recorded contract during that same year with Capitol Records. Sinatra changed up his music in the 1950’s however, as he had a much more mature and jazzy sound. After that, he was continually successful in film and music at the same time. When his sales began to start to slip in the late 50’s, Sinatra formed his own record label and film
The Belgian painter Luc Peire was born in 1916 in Bruges and died in 1991 in Paris. Renowned for the formal purity of his work, he worked through a range of genres and media, from portraits, landscapes, or abstraction, to environments. Peire received his art education from several institutions, beginning with the Academy of Fine Arts in Bruges (1930-5), continuing in Saint-Luc in Ghent (1932-5), and then at the Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp (1935-40). Already recognized within his university years, holding a debut solo exhibition in 1938, the artist came to the serious acclaim after the war, joining the Young Belgian Painting movement (1945), and later awarded with the prestigious Rome Prize (1946). His art was gently influenced by numerous travels the artist conducted within the 50s, visiting Tenerife, Congo, Morocco, and South Africa; and in the meanwhile befriending Alberto Sartoris, Michel Seuphor, and Eduardo Westerdahl, among others with whom he established an artistic dialogue. In the 60s, after his move to Paris and first travels to New York, Peire's work became even more radical, influenced both by optical art and minimalism. By the end of the decade, the artist completed a number of environments, contributing for the Belgian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (1968), and in the same year executing "Ambiente Mexico" and "Wall Relief" in Antwerp.
“Desperate to find a new talent for his small-time label, Sam Phillips finally gave in and listened to the recording by the kid with the sideburns his persistent secretary kept nagging him about.” (Tracy 61) On July 5, 1954, Elvis Presley ,who was a delivery truck driver, had huge shifts in his life. He went to Sun Records Studio in Memphis and
