Rib cage pain may be sharp, dull, or achy pain felt at and below the chest and above the navel on either side. It may occur after an obvious injury or without explanation.
Rib cage pain can be caused by anything from pulled muscles to a rib fracture. This pain may occur immediately upon injury, or develop slowly over time. It can also be a sign of an underlying medical condition, so you should report any instance of unexplainable rib cage pain to your doctor immediately.
Causes of Rib Cage Pain
The most common causes of rib cage pain are a pulled muscle or bruised ribs. Other causes of rib cage pain are:
broken ribs injuries to the chest rib fracture diseases that affect the bones, such as osteoporosis inflamed lining of the lungs muscle spasms inflamed rib cartilage

Most back pains often occur as a result of stress to the back over time mainly as a result of poor sitting postures. Though this is not the cause for all back pains, there are a few things one should consider when looking for solutions to cure or ease the back pain.
Sudden and severe pain in the abdomen, most often under the right rib cage. The pain can spread to the right shoulder and right back. It occurs most often after a plentiful, fatty meal and lasts 1-4 hours.
There are many causes of lower back pain. Muscle or ligament strain is an example. Repeated heavy lifting or a sudden awkward movement can strain back muscles and spinal ligaments. This can also cause muscle spasms in your body as well. Bulging or ruptured disks are another reason.
You usually feel back pain after lifting a heavy object, move suddenly, sit in one position for too long or suffer an injury or
The sciatic nerve could be the largest nerve within the body, running from your bottom in the back, with the hip, knee in order to the ankle. If this nerve is damaged or has pressure exerted into it, it can intense sciatic nerve pain insidewithin all the shin bone. This is what's called sciatica. Sciatica could be the consequence of volume of things. If the piriformis muscle which can be located deep within the hip, chokes the nerve this tends to cause sciatica. Herniated or slipped disks can put enormous pressure on the sciatic nerve, contributing to pain. Worse conditions such as cancer can lead to sciatica too, if a tumor is putting pressure for the nerve.
Muscles play a crucial part in the normal functioning of the lower back and sciatic nerve. If any of the muscles in this area become too tight or too weak, they have the potential to cause pain. This is typically referred to as muscle imbalance. The hamstring muscles are a common culprit for this and it is usually tightness which is the problem.
This can be due to several causes such as fatigue, overuse, or improper muscle use. Muscle strains usually occur in the back in the lower back, neck, or shoulder (Healthline, 2015). The mid back, or thoracic back, is both a unique and complex anatomical structure. The complexity that makes the back so unique also predisposes the back to injury. Twelve vertebral bones comprise the thoracic spinal column, the ribs, muscles, tendons, nerves, discs, and blood vessels according to Martini (Martini et al, 2014). These tissues function to give support to the upper body while aiding in the movement of the upper body and arms. Vertebrae T1-T10 articulate with each rib in two locations, and restricts mobility of this area of the spine (Martini et al,
Bone pain: Tiny fractures in the bones, causing bone pain often results due to the accumulation of plasma cells and weakened bone structures. The most common sites of bone pain are back or the ribs, but usually any bone can be affected. Pain is usually worse with movement and at night.
Heartburn causes pain in the center of the chest. Many people mistake the pain for a problem with the heart. In severe cases, it is even mistaken for a heart attack. In truth, heartburn has nothing to do with the heart, and its only relationship the general location of the pain. Instead, heartburn is an irritation of the esophagus caused by stomach acid.
Lung cancer is a cancer (malignancy) that originates in the tissues of the lungs or the cells lining the airways. Lung cancer originates when normal lung cells become cancer cells, usually after a series of mutations, and begin to divide out of control.
Consisting of three to five small bones, your coccyx, or tailbone, is located at the the very bottom of your spine. Weightlifting can put excessive pressure on this area and move the bones beyond their natural range of motion, triggering pain. Exercises, such as dead lifts, and clean-and-jerk motions, during which you squat down, pick a barbell up from the floor and raise it overhead, come to mind. Other causes of tailbone pain can include obesity, an accidental fall, a blow to the area, giving birth, and in rare cases, a tumor. (See References 2, 3 and 4)
When a patient comes with abdominal pain, it can be due to different causes. The pain may be visceral, somatoparietal or referred pain as an indicator of a wide variety of systemic and local causes. Visceral pain is from abdominal distention or stretching of the muscle fibers, carried by sympathetic nerve fibers, presents as dull, poorly localized pain in the mid areas of the abdomen. Somatic pain occurs once the parietal peritoneum is inflamed or irritated, and passed by sensory fibers. Somatic pain is better defined and more localized, high intensity, and also associated with tenderness and spasm of the localized muscle groups.
The most common symptom of this condition is lower abdominal pain that starts suddenly and can be severe. Pain can be anywhere in the lower abdomen, but it is more common on the left side. The pain may get worse with movement or when pressing on your abdomen.
Chest pain is the one of the most prominent symptom and complaints of many diseases that affects different systems. The major causes of acute chest pain include cardiac, gastroesophageal, nervous, psychological, musculoskeletal pulmonary condition and others
The onset may have been with work, home or sport activities – or it may even occur for no known reason. It often starts with an activity of daily living that might not have cause any pain before. Acute back pain can also be caused by an accident such as slipping or falling (National Health Committee, 2000).
