One of the biggest movies of 2023, the Barbie movie, includes America Ferrera. She also stars in Ugly Betty and All Women Have Curves. Actress America Ferrera tells her story on becoming an actress in her speech, “My Identity is my Superpower-Not an Obstacle.” It's not easy becoming an actor. She thought that this was how to achieve her dream. She soon realized that she just had to be herself. She was asked to be in Real Women Have Curves, and the character she played was supposed to look at how her real appearance was. Later on, she appeared in Ugly Betty. And that’s when she realized that there were people who wanted to see a Latina on the big screen. The rhetorical appeal that America Ferrera uses is pathos. For example, Ferrera explains what would happen when she didn’t get a job because she was wanted for a role until she got white. She says, “He delivered the message with a broken heart and with a tone that communicated “I understand how messed up this is.” “I felt the tears roll down my face. And the pain of rejection rose up in me and then the voice of shame scolded me,”. This is an example of pathos because she tells what and how she feels when she can’t get a job. Explaining the tears rolling down her face and how she felt rejected. Ferrera uses pathos to show that she would feel rejected and would scold herself. Another rhetorical appeal that Ferrera uses is ethos. For example, Ferrera says that when she doubts, she will be

Stephanie Ericsson categorizes the many ways people lie on a daily basis. She uses a mixture of facts, quotes and opinions to capture the severity of telling a lie. Her article has enabled me to understand the thought process that goes behind telling a lie. She justifies minor lies by using ethos and stating that minor lies prevents hurt feelings and that it is normal to lie. Stephanie frequently asks rhetorical questions to make readers think of the matter at hand. She also uses anaphora to seem more relatable and understanding to her readers. I tell minor lies on a daily basis but I did not realize that there is so many different types of lies. i and many other people often rationalize with ourselves to make our lies seem less harmful when
Radiolab presented a very compelling story of a lady by the name of Diane became witness to the lives of a young couple in their somewhat private domain. Diane shared her story of her intimate, but very one-sided interaction with her new neighbors across the way, whom never shut their curtains, with one Radiolab’s producers, Briana Breen. During their conversation, Diane breaks down as to what drove her to do the things that she had done and how she felt in the time of this interaction. Like many other listeners to this podcast, as well as the storyteller Diane, I will explain as to why her actions are justifiable.
Cynthia, I agree with what you say about knowing who your audience is important. I think when you're writng a paper and you know your audience it will helpp you write your essay alot faster. Knowing your audeince in writing helps because you can understand what type of style you should be using, because if you are writing in a childrens magazaine you are not going to use large words that they wouldnt understand. And if you are writing in a newspaper for adults you are going to try and impress your readers with large and vivid vocabulary to keep them interested in what you're trying to explain.
This piece is pathos because he uses emotions or emotional language to downgrade himself and put himself on everyone else's level like they’re all friends. Another example is logos, which is the use of logic. The text says, “The fewer the men there are, the greater the share of honor,” 4.3. 25. The 'Standard' of the 'Standard'.

Pathos are used to appeal to emotions of the person. Using pathos to persuade someone you want to convince them with an emotional response. These may make your paper more effective, because if it has anything to do with their emotions it will make them more interested in what you have to say. An example of pathos would be "If we don’t move soon, we’re all going to die! Can’t you see how dangerous it would be to stay?" This shows that if someone told you this it would affect how you felt about staying.
Pathos, which is a term used to describe when a speaker uses stories, quotes, or vivid language to pursue the audience to do something. A great example of when Michelle Obama uses pathos is when she says, “Many of you probably grew up like I did – in a community that wasn’t rich, not even middle class, but where people knew
Throughout the 1905 speech to the National American Woman Suffrage Association, Florence Kelley uses many different rhetorical techniques in order to create an argument that allows the audience to join her endeavors, Kelley does so by using appeals to pathos, logos, ethos, parallel structure, diction, and rhetorical questions.
For example, while she was describing how people viewed people like her, America said, “Someone they looked at and saw as too brown, too fat, too poor, too unsophisticated.” (Ferrera, 24) She says this because people, and especially in Hollywood, view Latinas as that, or expect them to look like that. The reason this is pathos is because it makes you sad or disappointed. Pathos means to provoke emotion and imagination, and this quote makes you imagine someone like who she described.
Pathos is when one evokes pity or sadness so one would be more receptive to being persuaded. This method was used a great deal, in all ten of the videos specifically in the video titled Here At Home: Honestly Painful which follows both Bouchra the caseworker and the story of Mark Wroblewiski. Currently on medication due to his visions regarding his father however it causes extreme drowsiness. Mark explains the visions about his father as he talked about how his dad is in the sun and that days that the sun wasn’t out meant that his father was upset with him. He explains how his father was very demanding, strict, and constantly yelled at him.
Pathos is the art of appealing to the emotional side of a subject in order to persuade. The many shifts of back and forth shots of each person in this advertisement displays their reactions throughout the video. The instant change of their happy-go-lucky attitude to seriousness as the woman tells her story proves that it is affecting them to some extent. The teary-eyed Millennials create the feeling of true sadness. The video shows that their emotions, channel to the outside.

Before analyzing the different canons of neo-Aristotelian criticism in Oprah Winfrey’s 2018 Golden Globe Speech, it is important to discuss relevant information about Oprah as a rhetor. Oprah is an accomplished broadcaster, interviewer, host, and actress. It is no coincidence that Oprah’s speech caught the attention of the room before her and that she was able to connect with those present and those watching at home. As a professional in the rhetorical medium, Oprah established a connection between her personal struggles of being African American and female, which therefore enabled her to transition to the sexual assault issues faced today by females of all race, color, and creed.
In this excerpt, Deborah Tannen speaks anecdotally about her observations of behavioral and communicative differences between boys and girls in peer groups that are sex-separate. I’m going to assume she’s talking about all-boys and all-girls schools. Deborah Tannen describes girls as typically inclined to choose one female friend with whom they’ll build a strong and exclusive bond that revolves around secretive conversation. She goes on to generalize boys as being much more willing to socialize with a broader peer group in the form of playful activities, and to use those activities to exhibit their skill, verbally express their knowledge, and to establish their rank in a pecking order.
