during the revolutionary war and the affect it had on the states. The government had no money and no one was willing to loan a country money who showed that they were not able to pay the already owed debt. Congress depended on the states to give voluntarily donations which were not much. Central government had to control over the states and they were all their own under the Confederation and it was unstable. The relationship among states were no good, instead of helping one another they were in competition and sabotaging each other by closing off trade ports and putting regulations of their own. All hope for a good future did not seem to exist, the only way that the country would be able to construct a good county was to fix it’s problems. At the time the founding fathers were …show more content…
The constitution was molded in a way so that future generations would abide by it and help retain the government in shape, and it became to be what Berkin calls A Brilliant Solution. By 1785 the number of attendees of congressional sessions were low, they were tired of dealing with issues they knew they were not able to solve. Many of them stayed at home due to the angry comments about wartime loans. Many of their debt came from people who put their money into congress and those were widows, gamblers and the wealthy people with fortunes. People had lost all the money they had b y investing it into the war and congress was unable to pay them back. The government did not have the funds to enforce decisions such as taxing the states and the people in those states to pay back the war debts. No state allowed wanted anyone else taxing their own people besides themselves. At some point the governments currency was
Doing the research from the ten different documents, the conclusion drew from it was that the revolutionary war was not so revolutionary. The research gotten from the documents supports this claim because as big as it was to to split away from a huge empire, not much changed. The only things that really changed was just rights and equality after years. For example, in document 3, there was someone who was not rich and they were playing pool with other rich people after the war. This just shows that some equality changed and nothing else that could be huge was like economy, or government since they just used basically the same type of government, but with different rich, white men. Also, document 2 was a part from the Unanimous Declaration of
The information stated in the ten documents after the Revolutionary war really do tell us whether it really was a revolution. I believe that the Revolutionary war was not really a revolution at all. In the Declaration of Independence it stated that all men are created equal but that was not true at all. African Americans were still being held slaves in some states until 1865 and that means that those people were considered property and that is not equal to other people. In document 6 a young African American in 1819 was was in New York school and he said that if he were a mechanic no white man would work with him and he stated that if he were a merchant nobody would have him in their office. This is after the war and this African American
For many, after the dreadful seven years’ war all thought it could only get better. Britain sustained a massive debt leaving them in a hole so deep you could not see light. Britain had sought to acquire all nessary funds to help lessen the debt as much as possible, leaving the people angered, especially people from the colonies. Britain began to impose an abundance of unsanctioned taxes on them. The American colonist were infuriated with such actions, arguing that they it was not consulted. In accordance to all these events many had took it up themselves to express their opinion with action.
At the beginning of the war, the British was way stronger than the Americans and had more opportunities to win with its affluence resources and advanced technologies. United Kingdom was the most powerful empire at the time with its advanced industry development and navy force. They just took over the east of Mississippi river as well as Canada from France. There were about 30,000 British army soldiers based in Canada in supervision of the North America.
The Revolutionary war was not revolutionary. However, the colonist made adjustments to their old form of government and political structure. For example, document 5 showed a map of all there states and any involvement with slavery (abolishment etc.). The amount of slavery in the colonies increase because, the colonies population grew. However, the amount of slavery in the colonies had gradually been growing ever since their usage became so vital.
During the Revolutionary War the idea of being American came about. The United States population was split with people both support and disapproving of the Revolution against the British. Whigs and Tories were two groups of people with views differing from one another. Whigs supported the revolution while the Tories supported the British. There were many disagreements and conflicts between the Whigs and Tories (Doc B).
The French and Indian war, fought from 1754 to 1763, negatively altered political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American Colonies. Most of these issues can be connected to the large influx of land in North America, nearly everything to the East of the Mississippi River ( as seen in the maps of North America in 1754 and 1763 found in Document A), conquered by Britain and the Colonies by the end of the war. With the colonies rapidly increasing in size, it became more and more difficult for Britain to control them an entire ocean away. North American began to take on a life of its own as in became increasingly apparent to both sides that they had conflicting goals. Further complications ensued with Britain’s attempts to properly
From one perspective war has always been the same, technology may improve or philosophies may change, but wars are started by those in power and fought by the poor. The results now may be somewhat different from 1775, post-Revolutionary war time with rebellions like Shay’s Rebellion, but the various reasons for the poor to join the military have stayed relatively the same.
The British fought the French in the French and Indian War from 1754 to 1763. The Colonists aided the British and in return the were “guaranteed” compensation. Instead, The colonists were repaid by unfair taxing or no representation in British Parliament. Between 1763 and 1776 the Colonists had slowly started to get fed up with unjust ruling from the British, and therefore, were justified in waging war with the British due to lack of political justice and economic restrictions.
Although the Revolution period between the years of 1776 - 1783 had established the unity of the States to become the United States, an extremely important matter had not been dealt with by the people. In 1861, this matter was addressed in a devastating battle that lasted for over four years. This war became known as the largest and highly destructive battle between the years of 1815 and 1914. A battle that would either determine if the nation was to be based upon an independent government or a dissoluble confederation. A government that needed to determine if all men were created with an equal right to liberty. On the day of April 12th 1861, a divided nation known as the Confederacy (the South) declared the secession from the United States.
The Revolutionary War, America’s conflict with Great Britain, the most powerful country in the world at the time, resulted in the independence of the United States of America. Through a war that lasted just over eight years, a relatively small country, which was actually a largely oversized settlement connected by roads, villages, towns, and cities before they won the war, was able to defeat the British with the help of France along the way. The war was caused by the rebellious reactions of the colonists to the taxes and acts that King George III had put into place to pay for the cost of the French and Indian War. The colonists were angered because of the taxes they were forced to pay for a war that was not theirs. The Revolutionary War proved
The revolutionary war was 'revolutionary' in the fact that is was a radical and unique struggle, which resulted in the transformation of America into a unified country, which was not afraid to express or act on their shockingly new way of living. They became the first country to enact a new democratic government, they unified diverse and opposing colonies, and spoke freely of their rights, as they were people who had the ability to strike back at those who threatened their liberty. In essence, this 'revolutionary' country was new, outspoken, and confident in what they wanted.
The year is 1787, and the American Revolution is over, insofar as the war with the British was concerned. However, America’s political revolution, and the question of what America should become was yet to be answered. At the time the States were operating under The Articles of Confederation which gave supreme power to the individual States, as opposed to a strong central Federal government. The Articles had served their needed purpose in the lead up to and the duration of the Revolutionary War against the British, but were woefully inadequate as a guiding document for the new United States. The Articles of Confederation had no provisions for the Federal government to collect taxes or regulate state commerce. The Federal government
The Revolutionary War was a huge moment in history. This had the colonists separate from British control. It was huge for the colonists to break away from British control.
On April 19, 1775, at Lexington and concord, a battle between American troops and British troops broke out. According to Nathaniel Milliken and 32 Militiamen, the British fired first at the American troops and continued to fire at them until American troops finished fleeing the American troops fired after the first bullet was heard to protect their soldiers. (Nathaniel Milliken and 32 Militiamen). In the American textbooks it also argues that British troops fired first and started the Revolution of Independence, General Gage sent British troops to Lexington and Concord on April 1775 to collect weapons for the rebellion. (High school textbook, 1963). These two sources are significant because it provides all the necessary details to describe
