When we think of racism we think of discrimination of a lower of less powerful group but, when you hear reverse racism what do you think of ? Reverse racism is prejudice directed at members of a historically dominant racial group. In my perspective, reverse racism is not real. Reverse racism is not real because, exclusion is not considered to be racist, and “all history is white history” so, there should be no need celebrate and rejoice their history because they have been dominant over different races for so many years and they are the ones who made other races strive to live and get through rough times. I am persuaded to conclude that reverse racism is invalid, due to my examples and statements made.
Reverse racism can be misunderstood and misconceived because of lots of peoples opinions. According to , Black Voices, “the “reverse racism” card is often pulled by white people when people of color call out racism and discrimination”. This is true because, in today's society, we can see many people who use people of color getting blamed for “excluding” white

Many white people often say why can't we have a white girls rock show. I’ll tell you why: it's offensive! A quote from “HUFFPOST” states, “they’re not examples of a double standard in which White History Month, The White Entertainment Channel, and White Girls Rock would be considered offensive. “Why isn’t there a White History Month?” you ask? To repeat a very true cliché ― all history is white history.” This is a perfect example because knowing how other groups of domination feel about people that struggled through history joining together to celebrate their ancestors is the key to “exposing” the forged racism. Despite the fact of groups of dominant “gangs” have been running and making everyone else's lives a struggle they try to put the guilt on the group whose ancestors suffered from their
In these chapters, Sensoy and DiAngelo argue that race is socially constructed and therefore, racism is a form of oppression towards people of color created by whites. The authors also argue that racism is not something that is possessed individually, but rather as a system. The authors support their argument by providing examples where white individuals may state that they are not racist, so they have no need to be concerned. However, all people hold prejudices and this denial just supports whites, rather than the ones affected by racism. Although a white person may not feel “racist,” they are a part of the bigger system which benefits them (whites) and oppresses people of color. The authors continue to support their argument by discussing how “reverse racism” does not exist. People of color do hold racial prejudices, but they do not have the institutionalized power to be racist, they cannot benefit from their racial prejudices in the system controlled by whites.
In fairly recent years, the idea of reverse racism has been thrown around amongst people. Basically, it is when individuals or groups who have been discriminated against because of race in the past are now favored over others who hadn’t been discriminated against. For example, the idea that hispanics or blacks get more privileges because they are the minority in turn discriminates against white people, which could be seen as a major issue. Although this seems kind of absurd, the topic of reverse racism is catching a lot of attention from important sources. A handful of cases on the subject have been brought to the Supreme Court. The idea and issue of reverse racism first gained tons of attention when one case was brought to the nation 's highest court in the 70s, according to Associated Press. A student named Allan Bakke had accused the University of California medical school for denying him admission multiple times because he was white, even despite his good grades. After that, numerous other cases had made their ways to a handful of court systems, claiming that it is extremely unfair to discriminate against someone because they’re white. More recently, a teacher named Jon Everhart filed a lawsuit against the school that he taught at for this very reason. Katie Frates, a writer for the Daily Caller, tells us that despite all the great accomplishments Everhart had achieved in his many years of teaching, a fellow employee who later became his boss discriminated against
Racism isn’t hating someone because of their race. Prejudice is not a misconception of who a person is. Racism is being prejudiced because a person believes their race is superior; and, prejudice is a preconceived opinion not based on any prior experience. In other words, racism is when a person has a preconceived opinion about another person because they feel their race is superior. Racism and prejudice are probably two of the most talked about and controversial words 60 years ago and still today. When Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and Martin L. King marched on Selma they didn’t think we would still be in such a place today; we are in a place where people are not allowed to be themselves without facing judgment. This is the same prejudice and racism members of society face in schools, by students and educators which limits their ability to progress in a world full of competition and rise above what demographics say they are destined to become. As the great Charles Albert Tindley once said, “We Shall Overcome!”
What does white supremacy, Black face, and reverse-racism have in common? That’s right, they are all wrong; done by certain privileged, white individuals to justify their racist views in a Eurocentric and segregated world. Reverse-racism, as defined by urban dictionary, states that it is, “the act of being racist, in reverse.” This definition of reverse-racism, in my opinion is very problematic and erroneous on numerous levels, and I will tell you why.
Racism is far more complex than people often acknowledge, more complex than reverse racism claims to be. Racism is a system created to benefit from the oppression of people of color. Reverse racism is a theory created to claim that the majority race is as oppressed as the marginalized. Although racism and reverse racism seem linked together, they are different because while racism is oppression benefiting those with privilege and power, “reverse racism,” is more of a racist rhetoric.
Racism can be “defined as the hatred of one person by another or the belief that another person is less than human because of skin color, language, customs, place of birth or any factor that supposedly reveals the basic nature of that person. It has influenced wars, slavery, the formation of nations, and legal codes” (“What”). The face of racism over the past 50 years has changed but yet, some still stay the same. People made laws against racism and it is not as blunt anymore. But opinions and stereotypes will remain which will cause others to still be treated differently.
Reverse racism’ (van Dijk 1993, quoted in Due 2011, 39) is seen as a justification towards racist acts, and is an attempt by those with privilege and power to, ‘turn charges of racism around […] argue that it is they who are being discriminated against’, (van Dijk 1993, quoted in Due, 39). This has the effect of diminishing real accounts of racism, in order to prioritise the agendas of those with privilege and power.
Reverse racism is not a new topic of this day and age, it came into use during the Civil Rights Movement. It was coined by white people in response to the slow integration of black minorities into a more equal position in society to whites. The issue arose because these people felt their rights as white Americans were being disregarded in order to put minorities on top. The term has recently been brought back to light in the heat of the Black Lives Matter movement. The idea has been very hotly debated based on the terminology or what people believe racism implies versus what it really means. There are two sides to this dispute about reverse racism. One side who feels that they are being oppressed in the same way as other minorities simply
Racism is an institution, not simply someone being discriminatory of a person because of their race. That’s why when you hear people making the statement, “that’s reverse racism!”
In a way, he did use reverse racism to express that a white male shouldn’t be demeaned. His skin color shouldn’t be taken in
Racism is defined as the systematic subordination of certain racial groups by those groups in power . As a society, we must first eradicate ignorance in order to defeat racism. We must acknowledge that people have different ways of viewing the world and that even though someone may have a different opinion than you, it is not necessarily wrong. The idea that people have different ways of viewing the world stems from standpoint theory. Standpoint theory is based on the concept that people view the world differently depending on their social standing . A central theme of standpoint theory is that a person’s racial and or ethnic background deeply impacts how they view and interact with the world . Racial
What comes to your mind when the word racism is mentioned? The definition of racism may differ from person to person. One of the most obvious meanings is when one race believes he/she is above or better than another, because of his skin color, religion, and characteristics. Something humans might not realize is that racism has and can lead to the removal of another race, the dividing of nations and cause enslavement of others. Racism is disguised behind the words of the people. They all use sayings such as “we are created equally”. Don’t be fooled because racism was a part of history and it’s still with us today.
In society there is a lot of misconception of the term racism. According to the merriam-webster dictionary members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of others race which many people would agree with. What is racism? The normal person if asked will simply reply, not liking someone for their color of their skin. Racism from my attitude which is substantiated by historically events is a system of power .Thus is a system of power i.e. to control the world and its people. Employed by Europeans to subjugate and discriminate against other groups, in particular Africans/black people. Racism is a power which ran thru a systemic way to hinder and sabotage other groups. The system is so elaborate that it almost seems nonexistence
Those who use the term "reverse descrimination" are actually engaging in moral absolutism, a completely unworkable concept that has never been practiced by any society in history. An example may best highlight its difficulties. Suppose our society passed a law that says, "No one shall forcefully take a television set from the possession of another." But the next day your neighbor comes over to your house with a gun and forcefully takes your television set from you. Having identified your neighbor, you call the police. The police show up at his door and demand that he surrender the television; he refuses, whereupon they pull
In today’s society, racism is a commonly misused phrase. In most situations, a white person will refer to certain stereotypical or insulting comments as racist. While that is an effect of prejudice, that is not racism nor is it reverse racism. Reverse racism is the term used to describe the act of racism towards white people. Ironically, there is no need for that term since reverse racism, simply, does not exist. Reverse racism is not real because the white race are the founders of racism. Keep in mind, racism is the systematic oppression of a race rather than hatred without action. White people will also never be able to experience discrimination based on the color of their skin since their skin color defines normativity, making every other color out of the quote ¨norm¨. We can not forget that society is built on the belief that white equals power, indicating that white people will be at the top of their own perceived racial hierarchy in almost every situation.
