Ashley Rhodes-Courter was only three years old when she was separated from her mother. She spent the next nine years bouncing from one foster family to another. Her mother, Lorraine, was only twenty years old, and she was also too young to take responsibilities for her two children. However, Ashley grew up earning straight “A’s” in her classes; she won a world-wide Harry Potter essay contest in New York, as well as many others. She was born in South Carolina, and later was taken to her first foster family in Florida. The closest family member she was kept with was her step-brother Luke, who didn’t share the same father. Later on, when Ashley was eleven years old, she got a new step-sister, who did not share the same father as she and Luke.
Ebenezer Baldwin Andrews did excavations in Ash Cave in the Hocking Valley, in 1876. He found skeletal remains in the cave along with millions of preserved seeds that were thousands of years old. The Chenopod seeds that were stored in the cave had thinner seed coats, this was a sign of domestication. A thinner seed coat means quicker germination for domesticated seeds versus wild seeds. Wild seeds with thicker seed coats prevents the seeds from germinating quick and keeps them protected from animals or throughout harsh seasons so they have a better chance of prospering as plants/crops later on. The Indians in this area selected for these seeds to germinate quicker so the crop would grow more rapidly and the food supply would increase to support
Another reason why Ashleigh decided to steal the money is because her dad said he needed the money. Her dad said he needed to celebrate something a quote that supports this can be found on page 2,”Of course I can afford it.Besides,I have something to celebrate.”Another reason why he needed the money is that he said he needed it for life,a quote that supports this is on page 2,”All i need to do is put a little financing, and i’ll be set for life.”Lastly, another reason why he needed the money is because he needed to pay somebody back,a quote that supports this can be found on page 3,”Well it isn’t for so much for a deal as to help pay off one i already made, dad
“Ashes” by Susan Beth Peffer is about Ashley's love for her dad. Even though he's not the ideal dad, he's charming and kind but, at the same time he is also manipulative and irresponsible. .Ashleigh’s dad manipulates his daughters unconditional love for him rather than taking responsibility for his actions. Ashleigh wants to steal the money because she wants to help her dad. She doesn't want him to get into trouble, and she feels sorry for him.
A conflict that happened in the book Rules of the Road is that a girl named Jenna who is the main character in this story faces a problem with her dad. Her parents are divorced so there is only her sister, her mom, and her. One day her dad comes into town all drunk and every time her dad comes back her family is always crazy. This time when her dad comes to see her at work she almost got fired and so she she tries and gets him to his apartment on a cab. Later when she gets home she tells her sister and mom. The next day Jenna gets an offer to drive her boss Mrs.Gladstone around town and says that she won't be back for 6 weeks. At first her mother refuses the offer and later she takes the offer realizing how much pressure it is to stay home
As seen in this quote, Ashes’ father is misdirecting her by sneakily telling her that she made a good decision to offer to help him steal the money. This evidence clearly represents how Ashes’ father is misleading her with lies and it will most likely reflect in their relationship negatively.
In the end, I believe that Ashleigh will take the money. Only because her father treats her better, and makes her feel better about herself. Her mother just doesn't have the comfort quality. Ashleigh is being pressured by her father, and she realizes that it's already set up and ready to take action. She is trusting her father to be able to pay back her mother’s money and for her not be caught. Ashleigh’s decision will be highly effective for her, and both her parents...no matter what it may
First of all, Ashleigh knew her dad was wrong about taking the money. The story says “‘Why don't you sell your car?’I asked him”(Pfeffer,4). Ashleigh knew that taking the money from the teapot was wrong, so she tries to give her dad an idea to get the money he needs a different way, than to steal her mother's money. “He wiped his hand on the napkin and offered it to me as though to shake on a deal. ‘Thats a lot of money, what if mom finds

When Lori and Jeanette are growing older, they decide they want to move to New York City to start a new life, away from their parents. Lori and Jeanette get jobs and begin to earn money. They hide their earnings from their parents in a piggy bank they named Oz. One day Jeanette tries to find Oz to put her paycheck in. Instead she says to Lori “Someone has slashed him apart with a knife and stole all the money” (Walls 228). The kids knew right away who had stolen it. It was Dad. When Lori confronted Dad with the news about Oz, he started playing dumb, acting like he had not idea what was going on. But in fact he did steal the money. This action shows that Dad is very selfish and only cares about himself.
In the short story called, “Ashes” by Susan Beth Pfeffer, the protagonist is dealing with the complicated relationship between her divorced parents. Ashleigh, the main character, is questioned by her dad if she can borrow her mom's money for his own problems. Ashes, short for Ashleigh, like the compliments that she keeps receiving from her dad. Ashes complex relationship with her parents makes her choose between her mom or her dad. One lesson this story suggests is that no matter how much you love someone, you have to let them handle things on their own.
Ashley Smith did not want to commit suicide. No one would like to die. She was a victim of negligence, but her mental condition played a role in her tragic death. As her inmate friend mentioned, in the Fifth Estate Episode “out of control”, that Ashley did not really want to die.
Being faced with a win/lose situation can be a complicated task to be faced with, as someone always gets hurt in the process. In the story ‘Ashes’, Ashleigh is faced with a very complicated situation between her parents, that if executed improperly, can really mess up the connection Ashleigh has with her parents. Her mom has a teapot that is full of emergency cash, and Ashleigh’s father needs a couple hundred dollars to complete a project that he is working on. Her father brought up the fact that she could steal the money and give it to him for his project, and then he would get back the money with his project. The thing that is preventing Ashleigh from doing that is the fact that her parents are divorced, so that she would have to steal the
A/N: Not intended, but I find the Ash/Rico moment quite cute and funny. The Ash/Xhäs brief interaction was also entertaining. As for the action scenes, I don’t know if I did a good job on them. You have to give me your thoughts about them. If you guys were curious, yes… Xhäs is a lot stronger than Ash because of his past experience and training with the Organization. So, no complaining! Ash needs to learn how to get stronger by adapting to new experiences like Xhäs once did. And hmm….I wondered what world was being teased at the end? And who were those four characters? Find out next time! Hopefully, I can get it posted within a week. If I can’t, then…you will have to wait until spring
