A number of prophets describe Retributive desert as penitential process for the people of God to return (Smilansky, 2006:516). Retributive desert means, wrongdoers deserve blame proportionate to their wrong doing. An essential presupposition of this model is that the person concerned knew at the time of his offense that he was morally responsible for his action, one ready to comprehend the association between the wrongdoing and the consequent punishment. In the event that one tenaciously acknowledged the idea that punishment serve as retribution for his wrongdoing, then to be sure it can serve an atoning function in and of itself (Sterba: 1977:349-362). This model is the one used by the prophets Amos, Joel, and Zechariah. Making Israel completely
Long ago, the middle of the North American continent was a treeless prairie covered by tall grasses and roaming buffalo. When European settlers came, they called this area the Great American Desert. Today, this "desert" is covered with fields of wheat, corn, and alfalfa made possible by center-pivot irrigation. My grandfather used to sell center-pivot systems and when my family drove to my grandparent's home in Nebraska, we would count how many "sprinklers" were watering each section of land. At the time, I didn't know that this water was being pumped from somethng called the Ogallala Aquifer, a huge underground water supply. Throughout the years, this aquifer has made the Great American Desert one of the best farming
Proof of volcanic activity related to the break-up of Australia and Antarctica is seen at Bunbury, which is located 150km south of Perth, at the point where the basalt is of early Cretaceous, also on the middle Jurassic Kangaroo Island. However, evidence of Cenozoic eruptions is only seen in Eastern Highland. All through the Cenozoic, hot spot volcanic event transpire (Sutherland et al., 1985). Most of these events follow the Miocene (Stephenson et al., 1980) with recent eruptions close to the southern and northern margin of volcanic zone at southeast of South Australia and north Queensland respectively.
Little Cottonwood Canyon is a site bursting with geological history, rock formations earthquake potential on the fault, prehistoric glacial formations, landslides, and many hazards associated with it. The Wasatch fault is bound to have a enormous earthquake in the future and has left behind numerous scars. The mountains have been engraved by glacial formations dated back to the Ice Age (~14,000 years ago). Rock falls and landslides have left hefty boulders as indication of erosion and moisture in the rocks. The hazards on this mountain range are mass wasting, radon, earthquakes, and flooding of Little Cottonwood Creek.
The longitude is: 79 48’ W to 87 38’ W. The latitude is: 24 30’ N to 31 N. The lowest point in Florida is sea level where Florida reaches the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
In his book, Cadillac Desert: The American West and Its Disappearing Water, Marc Reisner’s main thesis is to show the inefficiency, greed, and inherent difficulty in the American West’s never-ending struggle to turn its unwelcoming desert into a lush garden. One of his main sub-points is that the West is not meant to support millions of people. It has a wide range of geographic challenges throughout the entire region. Its inconsistency and diversity is a primary cause of its water problems. For example, Reisner notes that the West consists of “plains so arid that they could barely support bunchgrass; deserts that were fiercely hot and fiercely cold; streams that flooded a few weeks each year and went dry the rest; forests with trees so large it might take days to bring one down; . . . hail followed by drought followed by hail;” (23).
God’s redemption plan in the Old Testament foreshadows His redemption plan in the New Testament. The physical redemption of the Hebrews is that of the spiritual redemption Christians experience through Jesus Christ. Everything in the Old Testament Tabernacle points the Israelites to Jesus Christ, which follows the Order of Melchizedek. These components of revelation inform understanding of God’s progressive revelation of redemption and have an important impact on individual faith.
The native americans had many things that helped them survive today, you will learn about the desert regions
The state of Texas is the second largest state in the United States. Due to its location and size, it covers different geographical areas and climates. These areas support different ecosystems from deserts to coastal wetlands, with local wildlife varying with the environment. With such varied climates and yearly rainfall, it is easy to have crops growing in the east and little rainfall and an open rocky desert with cacti in the west. The geological history is also varied across the state leading to different mineral deposits by region. It is easy to see that Texas is a state with many unique areas that provide a wide variety of natural resources, native crops, and wildlife.
Ever since my dad was a young boy he has wanted to visit all the National Parks in the United States. We’ve already been to The Grand Canyon in Arizona, The Badlands in South Dakota, Biscayne in Florida, Mesa Verde in Colorado, and many more! This time we were headed for Colorado where National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, is located. I was really dreading this trip. I’d never heard of this park before and neither had my friends. All the other parks we’d been to have been really interesting and enjoyable, but Black Canyon of the Gunnison most likely won’t be.
This essay will critically analyse and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of retributivism. Throughout history the term “retributivism” has had a diverse though correlated meanings. The most significant meaning of retributivism is righting or rebalancing the scale of justice, through the use of mechanisms such as punishment e.g. punishing criminals in order to achieve justice for the offence they have committed. Retributivism also looks back at the offence, since the offender has committed a wrongful offence which needs to be punished. One of the core reasons why offenders should be punished is that they need to ‘pay back’ for the offence they have committed; the theory that is associated with retributivism is the just deserts theory. A theory is a concept that is based upon a hypothesis that can be supported with evidence. The just desert theory is used to justify retributivism punishment. Unlike other theories of punishment that mainly concentrates on preventing future crime, such as rehabilitation, deterrence and reductivism. The retributivist theory primarily concentrates on punishing past crimes. Although others would disagree with this for the reason that they think punishment should be used to ‘reduce’ and ‘prevent future crimes’ (Carlsmith et al., 2002 p284). The essay will take into account the views of various theories; theorist and philosophers so that the strengths and weaknesses of
Today is the day! I get to visit the Rocky Mountains. I have never seen the Rocky Mountains. Also, I am going on their 100th anniversary. The Rocky Mountains have been there for over 300 million years. In 2015, Rocky Mountain National Park was the third most visited national park with over 4.1 million visitors. I have to get there early because it will be packed. The temperature can drop up to 20 degrees on top of the mountains, so I better bring a jacket.
The term desert is strongly connected to the image of an extremely harsh environment void of any life. The sand dunes at the Gulf of California would fit this description of a desert biome, but for large parts the Sonoran Desert has a stunning array of different organisms.
The principle of desert states that we deserve to be treated as well or as badly as we treat others. In other words if we substitute the word treated for punished, we can justify actions through this principle. The conflict arises when one does not agree with the Retributivist’s theory, in that there are people who find it justifiable or rewarding to balance out infliction. Some believe this is not the right way to go, and, a lot of the time seek backing from ideological texts. There are also others who take one side of the principle, that they only like the idea of good treatment for the good servant. Putting revenge aside in all of this, it seems virtuous not to punish for crimes, this would be a good argument if the judicial system could provide an alternative way to minimise reoccurrence of infliction. But this alone does not balance out moral fairness. For
Retributive justice means an eye for an eye. Meaning your punishment will equal to the harm you’ve done. If one goes out and kill, they may receive life in prison. Depending on the situation they could also receive the death penalty. The justice feels that one should pay of its actions which I am in agreement. If a
The retribution punishment theory is associated with the philosopher Immanuel Kant from as far back as the eighteenth century known as the “justice model”. The concept of retributive punishment is "just deserts," used as a means of getting even with the offender, allowing the victim to feel a sense of justification by imposing the same measure of pain to the offender according to the crime committed; this will allow the victim to feel a sense of satisfaction. Though retribution is not a law of retaliation, the Mosaic laws of the Bible idealized it as “an eye for an eye” phenomenon.
