Response To 'Outsiders'

The Greasers feel like they are the outsiders. “that kid, Pip, he reminded me of us-how he felt marked lousy because he wasn’t a gentlemen or anything,” (Doc B). Here, Ponyboy feels as though the Greasers are stereotyped to be lousy and stupid by everyone else, leading them feeling like outsiders.

I chose the Outsiders theme song from Lecrae. The reason I chose this song was because it tied to the book much more than the other. For example, it says, “ I ain’t tryna eat, I’m tryna feed these folks.” Lecrae is saying that he would rather help people and sacrifice his life for them, than hog everything that he has for himself. This ties to the book because Pony and Johnny sacrifice their lives to save the kids from the burning church. Another reason that I chose this theme song over the other is because the song explains the difficulties of being an Outsider, such as trying to fit in, and other lines in the song. The Outsiders theme Project My personal theme statement for The Outsiders is that somebody's social class doesn't define who someone is. I choose this theme statement for two reasons; relationship between the socs and greasers, Ponyboy’s relationship with Cherry. The relationship between the Socs and greasers supports my theme because they were both going through the same struggle they just didn't know it. For example, when Randy came and talked to Ponyboy at the hospital Two-Bit said “ What’d Mr. Super-Soc have to say?”(hilton 126).

Ponyboy Curtis, Cherry, and Johnny are all people who are affected by soceital expectations because people expect them to conform to what they think of similar people, since they do have similar living conditions. Ponyboy and Johnny are part of a social group called the Greasers, who are the poor people in the town, and since many others think of poor people as people who steal, are thugs, and are parts of gangs, as Dally does, Ponyboy and Johnny are not. I think the second song is a better fit for The Outsiders rather than the first song, because has more details that relate to the book, such as “They laughing at us, yeah we know.” In this line they would be referring to the Socs. Also, “We might die,” meaning that the greasers might die just as Johnny and Dally did. Another line that relates to the story is “There’s plenty of people like me,” those people being the Greasers. The line saying “We need these folks,” is saying that the Greasers need johnny and Ponyboy when the gang is going to make stupid decision.

Remember in Junior High and High School when there were groups of different people? Like the football, basketball and cheerleaders hang out in a big group, but in the other corner there are the gamers, the book smart kids and then the others that don’t fit in. So now I am asking you as a reader, what do you think? Are outsiders simply those who are misjudged or misunderstood? In my opinion, I think that the outsiders are both misunderstood and misjudged.

An outsider is defined as “a person who does not belong to a particular group.” In the book, The Outsiders, many of the characters can be described as being an outcast from the social society. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Cherry are outsiders in this novel because none of them really fit into the groups that they’re “supposed” to be in.

I would go with “The Outsiders” by Eric Church because it reminds me about the book. In certain lines like, “A band of brothers,” reminds me of the greaser gang that they think of each other as brothers but not by blood. In his song he also said, “we’re the ones burning rubber off our tires,” which for me it reminds me a lot of the burning church in the outsiders like when it was up in flames and burning down. Also this part reminds me of their house how in the book they make it sound a little piled up a mess “we’re the junkyard dogs.” “The Outsiders” by Eric Church is better than “Outsiders” by Lecrae.

The first reason why “outsiders” are misjudged is because others judge them on where they live, who their parents are, and their social status. Ever since humans have been on earth, we place each other into a socioeconomic status. Certain people might live in a terrible, broken down house in a dangerous part of town, due to not making enough money. Others might be rich, living in a ginormous mansion, and living like a king. The poorer and less fortunate can't often help that they don’t have a lot of money. Yet, some richer people judge these poorer people on things like where they live or how they might dress. This happens a lot more in high schools, although some adults could do this too. Others might judge the “outsider” because of who raised them. The “outsider’s” parents might have had a “troubled past” in the eyes of some people and they might judge the outsider for being their child. It could also be the exact opposite and others could judge the outsider due to their parents being “wealthy” or “snobbish.” People are judged all the time based on lives that they can’t control. An outsider might want to try and create a better life for themselves

No matter where one goes on this dismal chunk of rock, one will probably encounter an outsider. In high school lunchrooms there is always at least one poor, sad teenager who has the unlucky seat next to the trash can. In parks and school playgrounds there is always that one melancholy kid that provides a stark contrast from the joyful shouts and screams coming from the other playing children. The experience of being an outsider is an inescapable universal condition that can be caused through social class, appearance, or other factors.

There is a bountiful number of outsiders in our society and we are wondering, why are they outsiders and what have they done to become that, what defines them? Outsiders in our society are simply misunderstood and people do not understand them, hence them being outsiders. The reasons that seem to make outsiders misunderstood is that they do not like or do the popular stuff at the time. Also, those who are outsiders are seen as people that are “different,” but really are misunderstood. Outsiders are just misunderstood in society and not purposely being pushed out.

Are outsiders simply those who are misjudged or misunderstood? Whether outsiders are misjudged or misunderstood depends on whose perspective you view this question from. When you look at someone you are developing an opinion of them, and you may be misjudging them by deciding they are an outsider. While when you are the person being judged you feel that you are just simply misunderstood. You may have experienced one or probably both of these perspectives. Moreover to truly understand what it means to be an outsider you need to understand both of these perspectives.

When people are growing up, being normal was the way to be cool. Everyone wants to be like everybody else and that’s the way it goes. What children and many adults still don’t understand is that being different and having diversity is a good thing. It is ok to be different, especially in today 's society. Being able to acknowledge that diversity and disability in everyday life and seeing the good in it will help bring together our society. For my next three paragraphs i 'm going to discuss what it was like to be an outsider, when I experienced diversity and an experience I have had with disability
