a. The resource and textbook both share information on contraception. The textbook deeply describes birth control options. For example, the birth control pill which is the most popular form of the birth control contraception used. The resource highlights the same material covered in the textbook and agrees to it being the most common and popular. “Oral contraceptives, popularly called the pill are the most popular form of reversible contraception in the United States, accounting for 17% of all contraceptives used” (327) The textbook states that it is the most popular form and it accounts for nearly 20% of the other birth control

The resource and textbook both share information on abortions. There are different types of abortions, but the most commonly used method is the surgical abortion. This method is used by a vacuum. Many patients get abortion during their first 3 week or first trimester. “Surgical methods are most common in this country, but the use of medications is also possible, as is suction” Many women typically get surgical abortions in the US. “Over 90% of all abortions occur in the first 3 months of pregnancy, and 63% occur in the first 8 weeks” (328) Many women get abortions before their second trimester starts because it’s easier and simpler that

Starting with the practices of abortion, which also depend on the number of weeks a woman is pregnant, the first is a medical abortion, which can be preformed within the first 50 days of a woman’s pregnancy by using a drug called “misoprostol” (Stutter Health). This causes an abortion without the need of surgery or a vacuumed (Stutter Health). The second form of abortion is the surgical abortion, this is perhaps the most common occurs by the 13th week of a pregnancy (SexInfo Online). This procedure starts with vacuuming out the uterus while the mother is under a mild amnestic (Stutter Health). While this procedure is being performed, medical professional Maureen Condic has concluded that fetuses can feel pain during the act of an abortion, “There is universal agreement that pain is detected by the fetus in the first trimester"
Is this a Campus or Community Resource? Explain. It is a community resource because though it is opened to UIUC students as well, it is located outside of campus and is opened to the public.
This usually occurs during the second or third trimester. The cervix is dilated for the entry of surgical forceps (AbortionTV). The fetus is partly pulled though the vagina in a breech style. The legs of the fetus are hanging out of the womb. The doctor forces the scissors into the back of the head and spreads the scissors to increase the wound size. A suction cup is held over the fetus’s head as the brains are sucked out (AbortionTV). The body is removed and the womb is cleaned of any other birthing particles. The partial abortion procedure can have fatal side effects such as infection of the cervix, excessive bleeding of the womb, chances for the mother to be fertile decreases, and causes scarring of the uterine wall. Medical experts thought the fetus couldn’t feel the pain of the scissors going through its head but, they were wrong. Studies show that it can feel the pain three to five times more than an adult that would experience it (AbortionTV). The tiny fetus’s are sedated and numbed up so the won’t feel the intense pain.
The process of abortion is performed either medically with a pill or done surgically. Since abortion is legal in most states up to the 2nd trimester, imagine how developed some of these unborn children are at the time of abortion. The pill method causes a miscarriage to occur, while the surgical methods physically remove the baby. Vacuum aspiration involves removing the fetus by suction. The 2nd procedure of dilation and evacuation involves medically ripening the cervix and the manual removal of the fetus and placenta with forceps (Lohr, Fjerstad,
There are a couple types of abortions used, one form is medically. In this process you’re given various medications that are intended to end your pregnancy. Women that choose a medical abortion are willing to undergo a surgical abortion if the first one fails. The medical procedure has a success rate that ranges from 75-95%, with about 2-4% of failed abortions that require a surgical procedure. The process involves bleeding, often heavy just like a period, that must be differentiated from hemorrhage. No matter how much tissue that has passed, a woman must see a doctor to make sure the process is complete. There's a rare and serious
Since the methods of birth control have changed significantly, today the most common method used is the pill. Which is a type of medication
At 13 weeks into her pregnancy, 29-year-old Jessica Smith lost her 5th baby, lifesitenews states. “I expected to be handed a blob that early into pregnancy. But instead, I was handed a perfectly formed tiny baby. He had perfectly formed fingers and toes. He had tiny, completely identifiable ears, nose, and mouth,” Jessica Smith told lifesitenews. According to Procon, abortion is one of the most debated topics in the United States (Procon). Planned Parenthood states, there are two different ways a woman can undergo an abortion, the abortion pill, or an in-clinic abortion. The pill only works up to ten weeks into a pregnancy. The doctor will give a woman her first pill in the clinic, and anywhere from six to 48 hours later, a woman can take the second one at home. There are two different types of in-clinical abortions. A suction abortion is used for a pregnancy anywhere between ten and 16 weeks. It uses suction to empty the uterus. Dilation and evacuation is used for a pregnancy anytime after 16 weeks and involves suction, and medical tools to empty a woman’s uterus (Planned Parenthood). Abortion results in terminating an unwanted pregnancy and should be illegal worldwide.
Contraception is a popular, but highly debated topic among most Americans. An article published by the Guttmacher Institute reported, “In 2011, nearly half (45% or 2.8 million) of the 6.1 million pregnancies in the United States each year were unintended.” (“Unintended Pregnancy”). Many women, both in a relationship and single, are searching for contraceptive options. A contraception is, as defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “deliberate prevention of conception or impregnation.” (Merriam-Webster 494). Oral birth control pills are one of the most popular and effective contraception options but the unavailability of these pills makes this option difficult for many women.
Birth Control has been a topic of debate for years. Several issues and opinions arise when talking about it. Birth Control was first released in the form of a pill in 1960. Since then birth control has evolved into several different forms, including pills, patches, implants, injections, and sponges. As stated by the Guttmacher Institute, “more than 43 million women of reproductive age are sexually active and want to prevent pregnancy, as of October 2015. Among these women who do not want to become pregnant, 62 percent are using contraception.” (qtd. in “Birth control” 1).
Current birth control methods have been around for 50 plus years and during this time frame, the different types of birth control have evolved and changed. In the article written by George T. Krucik (2013), he lists “12 of the most popular birth control methods, which includes: Hormonal Intrauterine Device (IUD), Copper Intrauterine Device (IUD), the Implant, the Shot, the Pill, Contraceptive Vaginal Ring, Contraceptive Patch, Morning-After Pill, Diaphragm, Male Condom, Female Condom, and lastly the Contraceptive sponge” (p. 1-7).
Furthermore, the oral contraception’s is the most popular form of the hormonal contraception in the United States, but is one of the most un-guided form to keep up with. According to Kelli Hall, about 30 percent of women have reported that they were missing one or more pills per month, which cause them to discontinue the pill and raised their chances three times higher to likely to have an unintended pregnancy than those who stayed on the method. Also, confirming that the reason behind the one million unwanted pregnancies that occurred in the United States over the past two years was because pill failure and the misguiding instructions giving to the patient by the pharmacist. Hall also states in her research that the coloration of oral contraception
The most probable method of abortion is called dilation and curettage. General anaesthetic is provided to the pregnant mother while the gynaecologist opens (dilates) the cervix with instruments called dilators, and then inserts a hollow tube through the cervix. Suction is applied to remove the retained tissue in the uterus. If the abortion is to be carried out on the 20th-24th week, 2 general anaesthetics with 2 nights will be supplied.
