Thesis Statement: I have chosen Kindergarten for my assignment for Week 5. For this assignment I was asked to create and outline to show the details for my paper. I was asked to identify three theories and philosophies along with curriculum for my selected age group. Paragraph 1: “Kindergarten development focuses on four major items of literacy that focus on reading and writing proficiency” (Jaruszewiscz, Candance 2013, p. 11.1). The classroom should provide special areas of space for each child. Circle time is also a good time to incorporate in the classroom. Circle time allows children to socialize together in different group sizes. Paragraph 5: When children assume any role during play, they are learning to fit in with the world they live in and how to use emotions and language. Kinder children are encouraged to interact in small groups for individual play. Small group play can be anywhere in the classroom.
Conclusion:
Kindergarten curriculum is based on the state standard in which you live. I live in Louisiana, and the standards for Kindergarten are practicing and mastering cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical foundations that enable children to be able to understand what they are learning. Louisiana defines academic standards in seven subjects, including English language arts, math, science, social studies, foreign languages, physical education and health. Chapter eight is about promoting communication and language development in early childhood education. Early communication is mostly non-verbal. Communication goes beyond the words we use; it develops with the use of gestures, facial expressions, hand movements and positioning of our body. Some of the first displays of communication by infants include, smiling, fussing and looking at an area, person or object. Later, communication extends to give signals such as pointing, reaching and body movements to indicate a want or need. The primary functions of early communication are behavior regulation, social interaction, and calling joint attention. The objective of preschool curriculum is to reinforce the achievement of ‘basic skills such as socialization process and personality development. The basic skills taught at this level are communication, social and other skills Reading, Writing, Counting and Critical thinking in preparation for primary schooling.
Everything teachers plan and do should focus on the individual child. They tailor, adjust, and adapt the curriculum to fit each child in the program, rather than expecting children to fit the program (Elkind, 1987). It is imperative in a developmentally appropriate perspective that the curriculum and teaching methods be age appropriate, individually appropriate, and culturally appropriate (Bredekamp & Copple, 1997). This means considering and understanding similarities within an age group, and also recognizing each child’s individual differences. In a developmentally appropriate classroom, children are allowed to progress at their own rate, and both the curriculum and teaching strategies are relevant for all the children in the classroom. Thus, a great deal of flexibility is required, but this does not mean a total lack of structure and academics; rather, it means that the structure and academics of the program are based on individual and group needs and current understanding of child development (Raines, 1997).
Assessment is an essential tool in the early childhood classroom. Teachers are always assessing students in the classroom using informal assessment and formal assessment. According to Copple (2009), stated that assessment is “the process of looking at children’s progress toward those goals. Thoughtful attention to assessment is essential to developmentally appropriate practice in order to monitor children’s development and learning, guide planning and decision making, identify children who might benefit from special services or supports, and report and communicate with others, including families.” (p.44).
Safe working environments should be reflected in all early childcare services. Overcoming difficulties across cross-cultures can be a difficult journey. Differences and misunderstanding could easily lead to a deterioration of relationships. Effective ways to handle these situations include: > Be aware of language limitations, some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders may not speak English as their first language (DPMC 2014) - use easy to understand plain English when in conversation. >
Once babies are grown in test tubes, there would be no need for parents and therefore vanish the incredible bond between the mother, father, and child. The childhood of a child that was grown in a test tube would be completely unconventional, since that child would not have loving parents to teach them anything. Adults raised this way would grow up to be unusual as a result of not knowing what love is since people first know about love because of the love between them and their parents. The adults grown from test tubes would most likely be independent and isolated from the rest of the world because they would not have created a bond with anyone or even interacted with anyone as a child.
Chapter two discusses various theorists that helped to mold and shape early childhood education to where it is today. There are several different theorists that contributed to the development of early childhood education. Some of these theorists include Alfred Adler, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and John Dewey. Each theorist developed a unique theory that has caused early childhood guidance and education to flourish like it has today. Without learning and building on these theories, early childhood guidance and education would never develop or change. The chapter explains how some theories may seem strange to the contemporary families, but these theories are the foundation of how early childhood education got to where it is today. The book goes

There are several different organisations that provide Early Years education for children aged 0 – 5 years. Whilst some provide the entitlement from birth, some provision work in conjunction with others and entitlement starts from the age of 3 years.
We had the opportunity to sit-in at two different primary schools, and each provided us with valuable insight into the early education system in Ireland. The first school we visited was an all Irish-speaking Catholic school. The second was an educate-together primary school. The educate-together primary school differed from the educate-together secondary schools we had visited in that they did not require students to wear uniforms. These two schools fundamentally differed in many ways both from the secondary schools and from one another.
After reading chapter 6 of the textbook, I have realized that children early years are severely important because they provide the foundation for the rest of their life, as adolescent, and as adult. Children that are well nurtured can live well and be sociable. Early childhood is the most rapid period of development in a human life. A child creates their own sense of identity. Indeed, it is important for a child to have a sense of identity. Although individual children develop at their pace, all children progress through an identifiable sequence of physical, cognitive, and emotional growth and change. The early child development approach is based on that children respond best when caregivers use specific techniques designed to encourage and stimulate progress to the next level of development. Early childhood is the time during which essential, intellectual, and emotional abilities form. Keeping young children safe and nurturing them is protective against lifelong problems. Including the risk of becoming involved in violence. Early experiences affect the brain development, shaping the brains physical growth and sculpting neural connections. This occurs primarily between birth and school age years. Besides, the family, community and society are powerful in shaping young children’s development. The education of the young mind is an important step in preparing the child for future learning experiences. The evolution of early childhood education has changed how adults and parents view the importance of offering stimulating and exciting opportunities to the very young. Early childhood Education offers the young child learning experiences that benefit them throughout their educational career. They soon embark on a whole new world of learning. These children are not only experiencing standard brain growth, but verbal and physical skills as well. Early childhood education teachers use a variation of techniques for instructing. They use lesson plans, worksheets, and even teacher resources for these young minds.
Literacy is important for young children. It’s so much a child has to know before entering kindergarten. The Essentials of Early Literacy Instruction stressed the importance of teaching literacy. Early literacy is an emerging g set of relationships between reading and writing. Today a lot of terms have been referred to for literacy development for preschoolers the term that’s mostly used is early literacy. The term was chosen because the earliest forms of literacy development are forming reading and writing concepts. Linking early literacy to play is the most effective way to for young children to learn. There are many ways educators can teach literacy activities such as rich teacher talk, storybook reading, phonologic awareness activities, alphabet activities, support for emergent writing, shared book experience, integrated, and content-focused activities, Young children understand print by oral and written language. Asking students to help read a book and turn the page help them understand the basics of a book. There are at least three critical content categories in early literacy: oral language comprehension, phonological awareness, and print knowledge. Children need to learn phonological awareness, alphabet letter knowledge, the function of written language, a sense of meaning making texts, and vocabulary. Alphabetic writing is quite difficult once children understand the language of their community they learn which words stand for which concepts in that language.
