Shrek
Computer Graphics have improved tremendously over the last few decades. These improvements have changed the Video Game industry and the Movie Industry. Today Visual Effect Artist have the tools to create virtually anything. Although, they have this great softwares that help them tremendously in their jobs, they are still very artistic, they are also able to perform numerous calculations to create great graphics. These improvements have made movies feel more realistic. Shrek is a great example of a movie that makes use of computer graphics extremely well. The movie Shrek is about a green ogre name Shrek who becomes friend with a talking donkey. In the first movie produced in 2001 Shrek decides to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon. One of my favorite scenes in Shrek is when the Dragon wakes up and starts chasing Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona.

That does not stop the dragon and he starts chasing them. The Dragon tries to get them by breathing fire. The fire comes very close to reaching Shrek and Donkey but they manage to avoid it. Next Shrek sees Fiona and all of the sudden he starts carrying Fiona in his right arm, and Donkey in his left arm. After that Shrek is able to run around these large pillars and we can see how the chains are beginning to overlap. As Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona head to the exit all they have to do is cross the wooden bridge, however the dragon is right behind them and is still very much chasing them. As they are crossing the wooden bridge the dragon starts breathing fire again, The Bridge begins to collapse and Shrek, Fiona and Donkey almost fall with the bridge. However they manage to reach the other side. The Dragon is unable to continue chasing them because the chains are holding him
I may be one of the select few, but I often find myself in a nostalgic mood. Much of this is remembering things I overlooked. Memorizing the cover instead of looking into the pages. It’s an unfortunate lifestyle. Now this may sound somewhat infantile, but I’ve been rewatching the movie, Shrek, and I can’t stop. If you don’t know by now, Shrek is a satirical fairy tale while also making fun of other fairy tales; however, the icing on the cake would have to be the message that this cinematic masterpiece conveys, and how it’s different from any fairy tale you’ve ever heard.
Next we come to the second scene, in which Shrek, and his companion to be, Donkey, meet for the first time. Following his role as before, Shrek tries to ward Donkey off with his appearance, by stating to him simply “What am I.” Whilst towering over Donkey. However, we then see that Donkey, unusually, he does not seem to be afraid of this apparently vile and dangerous ogre towering before him. To make Shrek not seem so harsh, we then see characterisation of Donkey taking place, whilst he makes fun of Shrek. By making Donkey comment “You need some Tic-Tacs.” We see humour and a more obvious difference, compared to traditional tales. As the mocking and annoying comments continue spouting from the talking donkey’s mouth (an unlikely character in traditional tales) Shrek continues to try and deter Donkey with his “scary” persona, however nothing works. At this moment, the audience start to realise that Shrek is not
something to make a joke out of. He burps and farts openly quite a lot
As soon as Shrek arrives at the castle, Lord Farquaad tries to have him killed. After watching the ogre defeat his warriors, Farquaad realizes that the best way to get rid of Shrek is to send him on a quest to rescue Princess Fionna from a vicious dragon. Shrek strikes a bargain with the lord. He agrees to deliver the princess, if Farquaad will allow the fairy tale creatures in Shrek’s swamp to return to their own homes. The battle with the lord’s soldiers and his fight with the dragon must be viewed as the hero’s “first tests”. Shrek has no idea what he’s really getting himself into. He notices the final reward as simply returning to his isolated lifestyle, but his journey will not be that simple. As he approaches the dragon’s lair, Shrek has to leave the protection of the forest, pass through barren, rocky slopes, and then cross a fiery trench before battling the dragon, the second of his tests.
Shrek is a movie that is very different from any movies that one could see so far. It is a computer-animated American comedy film, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, and starring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow. It was based on William Steig's 1990 fairy tale picture book Shrek!, and was produced by DreamWorks Animation. Clearly displaying its difference, Shrek was the first film to win an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2001. Looking at all the three movies that have been produced so far, on can see that the characters of Shrek, who is an ogre and his love Fiona, who is originally a beautiful princess but then becomes an
Consider the song, "The Circle of Life," from the Disney movie, The Lion King. While you may question its appearance in an essay about organic and sustainable farms, it has a well deserved place. The song is primarily about how things live and die working together. I think that this theme is both fitting, and fully exemplifies how food - and the way it's produced, really should be. Investigative Journalist Michael Pollan writes about Polyface Farm in his book, The Omnivore's Dilemma.
The animated motion pictures Toy Story and Shrek use an array of underlying messages and themes to provoke emotion within the observer. Mutually, Toy Story and Shrek use the same theme of friendship to promote the importance of maintaining healthy relationships with those individuals surrounding you. The technique of characterisation is used vigorously within each film, as it helps viewers to feel connected to the characters, and understand the underlying messages. Each film is used to present the importance of friendship; showcasing the effects that companionship can have on individuals. In the film Shrek, the protagonist Shrek is used to exude a hostile dismay toward companionship, and showcases the negative effects relationships can have on you. Shrek is compelled by his resentment and loneliness in life, and takes that out on
FPTP is the second most used electoral system worldwide, and in the UK it is used primarily in general elections to reach a fully representative, democratic electoral system. In assessing whether we should scrap FPTP, we must first establish what an electoral system ought to provide. The purpose of an electoral system in the UK is to fairly elect representatives for the population to make up an effective government, as we operate with a system of representative democracy. For an ideal democracy to function, an electoral system that delivers a strong constituency link, genuine voter choice, an effective government is fundamental. It is also important for a system to operate simply and with transparency for the population. As Tom Stoppard once wrote, “It’s not the voting that’s democracy; it’s the counting.”
Today the method of traditional animation is outdated. New technology is now in place to make the process faster and make the images crisper. Today, drawings or backgrounds are scanned into or drawn directly onto a computer software program. These software programs can simulate camera movement as well as various other effects. In 1994, the Lion King was produced using a combination of traditional animation alongside computer animation.
Digital graphics are in their own way an art form, digitally constructed to create phenomenal images. However, you need to have some sort of artistic ability combined with a suitable computer system before you can design the perfect graphic.
Although research shows that adolescent use is harmful to developing brains, Dr. Kevin Hill of McLean Hospital's Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse commented, “The growing body of research that includes this study suggests that medical marijuana laws do not increase adolescent use and future decisions that states make about whether or not to enact medical marijuana laws should be at least partly guided by this evidence” (Borchardt). Other research is showing that pot use is increasing among teens-- ironically though, that increase is not in the states where it is legal. The National Survey on Drug Use points out that marijuana has consistently been the most accessible illicit drug since 1975 when 81% of teens reported they could get it, before
An element of courage illustrated in Shrek is when Shrek accepts Lord Farquaad’s quest to rescue princess Fiona from the treacherous tower, guarded by a female dragon (that takes a romantic shine to Donkey), surrounded by lava and where many previous knights have attempted to capture the Princess. Donkey and Shrek travel to the
Aside from basic two dimensional art, I have always been fascinated with the unique stories told through film. The way that a picture is painted through film is something that one cannot find in just any art form. Film is unique and fascinating, so I sought to find a way to unite the two worlds of film and the 2D art that I enjoy so much. My findings were that digital animation combined the artistic style that I love and the storytelling of film in a way that intrigued me beyond any other career I had researched.
The years 477 to 431 B.C., saw the city of Athens experiencing a huge growth in intellectual and artistic learning. This was known as the Golden Age of Athens. The Golden Age was one of the most memorable in the history of the world. This was a period that introduce drama, music, literature, architecture, art, and philosophy in Athens. It was a period categorized by such high and diverse levels of achievement that many astute intellectuals refer to the experience as “the Greek miracle”. Even those individuals who did not believe that such miracles can happen actually acknowledge that it is possible that the Greeks who were very competitive were definitely inspired on a higher level of innovation in their field by seeing the bar being raised
IT has also changed the way movies are shot particularly through application of film special effects. The film industry heavily relies on illusions to simulate imaginary events in a story (McClean, 2007). Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) is another key technology that is applied to special effects to enhance films. CGI is mainly used in special effects to enable filmmakers to control the scenes instead of using many extra actors. This has simplified film production and reduced the costs incurred. A lot of movies especially those classified under fiction, action, and horror genres rely on CGI.
