School Shootings are one of our schools biggest problems. Today, young people are dying and getting severely injured due to this problem. This is one things kids can not recover from. In 2018, there is now already been 23 school shootings averaging about 1 per week. Right now more than 215,000 kids have experienced school shootings.
Our first topic is going to be about Bullying. Bullying is an important reason schools are having these problems. The kid that is about to shoot the school, is most likely a student that has been bullied or is being bullied. And the kid is trying to get back at their bully, and letting all of their anger out on innocent friend. Sometimes they even shoot the person they love.
Our second topic is going to be
All three texts share a common theme on mass shootings while using the research, findings, and published works of Professor Adam Lankford. Each of the texts uses the rhetorical aim Inform and Explain due to all three texts being presented in a expository manner. These texts fit the definitions and criteria for Inform and Explain as they are confident which is shown by making the purpose of the paper known early on and the continued stream of confidence throughout all three texts. In Newsweeks article Study: Mass Shootings ‘Exceptionally American Problem’ the title immediately states the purpose of the article followed by referring to Lankfords work almost immediately on how these mass shootings develop in America. This confidence and purpose
After a gunman bore down on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Maddy Wilford lay bleeding from three bullet wounds, so pale that officers responding to the carnage first thought she was dead.
A shooting Monotory High School scares us all. With a sad 3 dead and 12 wounded students Monotory High is under investigation on why the shooter did what he did. The families of the high schoolers that were shot and killed have been notified and are not taking it well. Two of the three parents are concerned for the students that were at the high school with them because they don't want the other parents to go through what they had. The three high schoolers that were shot dead are Rose White, Joanne Green, and Eddie Davidson. Rose and Joanne have been 15 years old and only a sophomore. Eddie was 16 and a Junior. "Eddie, Rose and Joanne were best friends since 5th grade" we were told by the parents of the three. They said that they were all very
The assailant’s intention is to assault as many individuals as possible with no hope of surviving. According to the New York City Police Department report on active shooters, 46% of active shooters are stopped by law enforcement officials, or other bystanders, and 40% of the active shooters either commit suicide or attempt suicide. (NYPD, 2011) Police departments nationwide are training their officers to confront the active shooters quickly and as aggressively as possible. (Cain, 2010) Police departments have begun introducing various tactics in concealment, entering doorways, and working in small groups to have a tactical advantage in eliminating the assailant. Police agencies have been working closely with their local schools to avoid future massacres. Many police agencies have implemented various approaches to ensure their response times are sharp. Daviess County, Kentucky Sherriff’s office began offering a 2-day training program that demonstrates various entry and movement techniques when confronting an active shooter (Cain, 2010) Many other agencies have introduced live-fire scenarios using artificial projectiles, and the use of ballistic shields. (Law Staff, 2008) As school shootings can never be predicted it is imperative that the education institutions and law enforcement agencies are ready and vigilant at all times to avoid other nationwide massacres.
On July 25, at Club Blu in Fort Myers, Florida, a shooter shot 18 people, killing 2 and injuring 16. Due to these recent shootings all across America, citizen become increasingly more concerned for their safety. We need to look at these shootings and realize that something needs to be done. We need to make the ways of obtaining guns and ammunition harder for everyone. Everyone needs to join forces and implant this problem that is plaguing on our great country.
I have been a student in the Thomas County School System ever since I started pre-school. During my time here, I have loved every minute of it, learning and having great experiences with friends and teachers here. Over the last four years of my high school experience, I have noticed that there have been more threats of bombings and shootings around the nation. Even though we do have a safe school and take precautions, there is still room for error. I am proposing that we make school a safer place for kids to learn by installing bulletproof glass as well as door-stoppers in each class.
CHARLESTON, North Carolina – What was supposedly a solemn bible study and prayer meeting, turned out to be a shooting fiasco when a young man started to pull the trigger, killing nine people.
Further, a mass shooting occurred on December 2, 2015 in the Inland Regional Center, which provides services to the disabled, in San Bernardino, California. Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, a couple armed with .233-caliber assault rifles, and two nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistols, which were all legally purchased, shot and killed fourteen people and injured twenty-one. After engaging in a shootout with police, the couple was killed. The victims were people Farook knew because he worked with them. The shooters left 1,400 rounds for the rifle and 200 for the pistols in a car rental. In addition, police found over 2,000 rounds of handgun ammunition, over 2,500 rounds for assault rifles, twelve homemade pipe bombs, and materials
The gun control debate has resurfaced with a vengeance in the wake of the shooting at a school in Florida that left 17 dead. Nikolas Cruz entered the freshmen building right before dismissal at around 2:19p.m. He was carrying an AR-15 in a case. Cruz shot students in teachers who were in the hallways and in classrooms on the first and second floors. Eventually, Cruz left his vest, magazines, and gun in a staircase and camouflaged himself among other fleeing students. After making it out of the school, Cruz walked to Walmart and bought a drink at the Subway there. He was apprehended walking down the street just a few miles from the school. He was arrested and taken to a hospital. Cruz was then released into police custody.
Mass shootings have become a grim occurrence that seem to happen more frequently, no matter what repercussions they have. From the club shooting in Orlando to the violent attacks on students in schools, these events have unfortunately transpired repeatedly over the recent decades, with no end in sight. However, the recent Stoneman Douglas high school shooting may have begun the movement to change legislation so that these shootings present themselves, if at all, considerably less often. Most will say the government isn’t doing enough, but the likelihood that they will reject funding from the National Rifle Association (NRA) or amend Americans’ right to bear arms is so miniscule it is almost pointless to argue, however there may be a more plausible alternative. Congress and the President have the power to intensify the background checks and exams that citizens must undergo in order to purchase these weapons. More thorough criminal and mental examinations may prevents felons from obtaining these weapons of war, or could lead to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as depression or schizophrenia.
School shootings are terrifying to think about, but there are ways to help prevent the massacres from ever happening again. The first known school shooting was at the Texas Tower at the University of Texas in 1966 where Charles Whitman shot and killed 16 people while injuring 31 others. Who would have known since that date that we would have more then 200 deaths on school campuses? The most storied shooting in the 90’s was probably the Columbine massacre where on April 20, 1999 Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed 32 students and faculty before turning the guns on themselves. The horror scene from the day will always be remembered in many lives and will continue over the years. There were many other horrible shootings over the years as
Mass shootings have become a disturbing issue that seems to be on the rise around the world, and no one can predict when one may occur. The FBI defines mass shootings as the killing of four or more victims. There have been a total of 274 days so far this year with a terrifying amount of 294 mass shootings (Ingraham, 2015). Mass shootings cannot be solved, but they can be prevented. This can be done by enacting policies or programs to take better care of people suffering from mental health issues, enacting better gun control laws, and by not allowing violence in entertainment such as video games.
School shootings have altered American history greatly over the past two decades. From 1997 to 2007, there have been more than 40 school shootings, resulting in over 70 deaths and many more injuries. School shoot-outs have been increasing in number dramatically in the past 20 years. There are no boundaries as to how old the child would be, or how many people they may kill or injure. At Mount Morris Township, Michigan, on February 29th, 2000, there was a 6 year old boy who shot and killed another 6 year old girl at the Buell Elementary School with a .32 caliber pistol. And although many shootings have occurred at High Schools or Middle Schools, having more guns on those campuses would not be a good environment for children to grow up in.
There are a lot of school shootings happening in the U.S., today. These school shooters have problems, which they need to be helped immediately. Schools need more security in order to prepare for these shootings. People never know or expect a person in their school to start shooting a gun at innocent people. Throughout years, more and more shootings are occurring, we need to find out what causes these tragic dilemmas in schools. Students need to help out other students, nevertheless, at least show respect to more students.
Why should school shootings be a concern in America? Other than the fact that 439 people have been shot or killed in brutal, gun involved school attacks in the last six years (Patel, 2018). The children hold the key to America's future, if they fear being shot in a school, how will the next generation of
