Reumatoid Arthritis is an illness that have always intrigued me because many, many years ago, I met a kid my age, (15 years old) that was diagnose with arthritis. His joints were inflamated, he was in pain, and as the adults with arthritis, he was in pain. At that time I thought that osteoarthritis and reumatoid arthrits was an illess afecting only the old. It was then when I learn that kids can also get reumathoid arthritis that is called Juvenile Reumathic Arthritis (JRA) or Juvenile Ideopathic Arthritis (JIA). Your post called my attention and I believe that your description of the illness is accurate. Now, add the medical terms and you are done!!
Today in the United States there is an estimated 1.3 million people living and dealing with rheumatoid arthritis (Arthritis Foundation). One might ask, what exactly is rheumatoid arthritis? Well, rheumatoid arthritis, also commonly known as RA, is a form of inflammatory disease and an autoimmune disease. If the person is a minor, or below the age of six-teen, then the chronic disease can also go by the name of juvenile arthritis. The juvenile arthritis is, “Defined as chronic inflammation of the synovial joints, with unknown etiology, which starts before the age of sixteen and persists for at least six weeks” (Hink et al 1). This disease can affect anyone with a functioning immune system. Out of the 1.3 million people in the United States that have rheumatoid arthritis, 70% of that number is women (RA.com). Once again there are no certain reasons as to who receives this disease whether its children, elders, Caucasians, African Americans, etc. But once they do receive the illness, then it affects them immensely. “The disease is systemic, meaning it can occur throughout the whole body. It’s a chronic disease, so it can’t be cured” (Arthritis Foundation). The pain, stiffness and fatigue can affect the entire body. “RA occurs when your immune system, the system that protects your body from outside harm, mistakenly starts attacking healthy tissue” (RA.com). Rheumatoid arthritis is an incurable disease that is affecting
affected joints and later spreads to the joint capsule, the adjoining tendons, and the joint
Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) is a chronic and progressive autoimmune disorder of the joints. In JRA the joints become stiff, swollen, and inflamed causing pain and loss of movement. The cause is thought to be genetic and/or related to environmental factors which are still not understood. Because of its origin not being well understood, JRA is also called juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The body has abnormal immune responses wherein it attacks normal cells and tissues causing damage to the joints (McMahon Anne-Marie, 2011).
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systemic inflammatory autoimmune disease. The disease happens when the immune system mistakenly attacks a healthy tissue as if it was a foreign invader, such as a virus or bacteria. If left untreated it can lead to permanent joint damage, decrease in quality of life, and total disability. It affects over a million people in the U.S. alone. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms include persistent joint inflammation which causes joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. Fatigue and stiffness are usually early symptoms. Joint pain can be an early symptom in a variety of diseases. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis often develop slowly over a period of weeks or longer, but this is not always the case, it can have an acute
Living with the pain, stiffness, and deformities associated with arthritis is possible, but living a normal life may require orthopedic surgery. Since your hands and fingers are used a great deal, you may not realize the symptoms you are having are due to arthritis. Considering millions of people have rheumatoid arthritis in their hands, it is helpful to understand this condition.
Rheumatoid Arthritis or (RA) is an autoimmune disease that attacks the joints and connective tissue. The result is inflammation that produces permanent damage in the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic syndrome that tends to be progressive and destructive as compared to Osteoarthritis or (OA), which is more of an age related disease caused by “wear and tear” of the joints. In contrast to (OA), rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by inflammation mostly of the joints, but is a general body disease.
Many people all over the world may have rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that affects the small joints in the hands and feet (Mayoclinicorg, 2015). It is also an autoimmune disease, where the immune system sees the body as a foreign object and attacks it (Mayoclinicorg, 2015). As the chronic disorder matures, it could seep into the blood vessels and into other organs: heart, lungs, skin, and eyes (Mayoclinicorg, 2015). This chronic pain is found mostly in women around forty to sixty years old; however, men with low testosterone could also have the chronic disorder (Mayoclinicorg, 2015). Because smokers burn off certain cells to prevent infection, they are also at risk for rheumatoid arthritis. This
"Rheumatoid joint inflammation is an interminable infection set apart by irritation of the joints, frequently influencing the hand joints and both sides of the body in the meantime" (Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, 2009).
First, it is very difficult to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis in its early stages. It is difficult to diagnose because its symptoms are very similar to many other diseases. Second, the treatment has no one cure. This means there are things you can do to help, but there is not one thing that cures it. Next, the environmental factors are very few. One of which is infection with certain bacteria and viruses may trigger the disease. The other reason is smoking tobacco. The testing and diagnosis, treatment, and environmental factors are very dreadful
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease in which immune system of body mistakenly attacks the joints. This creates inflammation and severe pain around the joints due to thickening or degeneration of synovial fluid. Frequent high dosing of drug may precipitate side effect. Purpose of this work was site specific and simultaneously delivery of methotrexate and aceclofenac by chondroitin sulphate conjugated lipid nanocarrier i.e. solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) for the effective management of RA. The SLNs were prepared by solvent injection method and further they were surface engineered with Chondroitin sulphate. They were further characterized for size and its size distribution, shape and surface morphology, zeta potential,
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic syndrome that is characterized by inflammation of the peripheral joints, but it may also involve the lungs, heart, blood vessels, and eyes. The prevalence of this autoimmune disease is between 0.3% to 1.5% of the population in the United States (Feinberg, pp 815). It affects women two to three times more often than men, and the onset of RA is usually between 25 and 50 years of age, but it can occur at any age (Reed, pp 584). RA can be diagnosed by establishing the presence of persistent joint pain, swelling in a symmetric distribution, and prolonged morning stiffness. RA usually affects multiple joints, such as the hands, wrists, knees, elbows, feet, shoulders, hips, and small hand joints. RA is
Rheumatoid Arthritis is an inflammatory disease that affects the small joints in your hands and feet. It affects the lining of your joints causing pain and swelling. Which can eventually cause bone erosion and joint deformity? An autoimmune disorder, rheumatoid arthritis occurs when your immune system attacks its own body tissue. This disease can occur at any age but usually between the age of 40 and 60 years of age. Rheumatoid arthritis usually attacks your smaller joints first, such as those that attach your fingers to your hands, and your toes to your feet. As the disease progresses, symptoms sometimes spread to the wrists, knees, ankles, elbows, hips and shoulders. Over time it can cause your joints to deform and shift out of place.(National
Both of the psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis are chronic autoimmune disease that can affect Th1 and Th17 cells in vivo. Typical symptoms of psoriasis involve skin redness, scaly skin proliferation and abnormal keratinocytes differentiation; the main characteristics of rheumatoid arthritis include joint deformation, synovitis, cartilage wear, rheumatoid nodules and immune cells infiltrate in vascular. While the exact cause of psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis remains unknown, researchers believe the disorders interaction between immune cells and keratinocyte. Acarbose is α-glucosidase inhibitors that can interfere with α-glucosidases in the brush border of the small intestine, blocking the degradation of starch and sucrose, and thus delay
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease in which your joints are very sore and ache multiple times of the day. This disease is in the autoimmune system because the immune system mistakenly attacks your own body tissue and results in these pains. It ordinarily affects the small joints of your hands and feet. The lining of these joints is attacked and causes painful swelling. It also affects other organs such as your skin, eyes, lungs, and blood vessels. If not treated correctly it is known to cause bone deformity. Rheumatoid arthritis is predominantly more common in women and generally begins around age 40.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a systemic chronic inflammatory disease of the joints. (Kobayashi, Momohara, Kamatani, & Okamoto, 2008, p. 4456) The term ‘chronic' refers to a disease being long term, and the term ‘inflammatory' means a sudden response to tissue in the body being injured.
