Do you know that Maine is famous for lobsters because it harvests the majority of lobsters in the United States? The population reached to 1.336 million people living in the state of Maine. And the total area of Maine is 35,385 square miles, also known as the biggest state with the most land from the original 13 colonies.

Sure there are steakhouses and fancy restaurants of all stripes, but where the local Gulfport dining scene really impresses is in the quality of its fresh seafood options. From humble beachside po’ boy shacks all the way up to the areas four-star raw bars, the seafood here, at any price, is bound to amaze and satisfy.

The name of the band that I went to go see were called Rock Lobster. It is a band is made up of several people and may be accompanied by guest. The main names of the band are Stephanie Foxx, Jessica Jackson, Dallan Baumgarten, John Colby, and Gary Sanchex. They are a band that plays the most popular of 80’s rock music. I attended this event on June 5, 2016 at 7:00pm. It was located at in Scottsdale at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. The exact address is 7301 e Indian Bend Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85250. It’s a beautiful day at the beach, the sun is shining down on you as you float and drift on top of the waves. As you lay there without a care in the world, you are suddenly interrupted by a massive swarm of jellyfish; also known as a bloom. Not only does this send you into sudden terror, it also causes a much bigger threat to the ecosystem below you. The excessive growth of jellyfish swarm drastically lowers the population of fish eggs in the ecosystem. Because of this, fishermen lose millions of dollars. People in local communities are figuring out ways to solve this mass production.

In the essay “Consider the Lobster”, David Foster Wallace communicates his experience in the Main Lobster Festival as a writer for a food magazine called “Gourmet”. In this essay, he explores the impact the festival had on him as he tries to question the morals of eating lobsters. Wallace initially makes it seem as the festival is a place of fun and celebration as he describes the entertainment: concerts, carnival rides, lobster-themed food, lobster-themed clothes, and lobster-themed toys (50). In spite of that, he changes his attitude as he observes that the festival is actually promoting cruelty to animals and holds a long discussion whether or not lobsters can actually feel pain. Through the use of his language and description, Wallace convinces the audience as he claims to persuade the reader to stop eating lobsters, but he doesn’t explicitly say so at any point in the essay.

It was interesting to read that the hypothesis provided by the scientists turned out to be opposite of what happened to Valley Creek. The macroinvertebrates were already living in a low quality creek full of pollution, so I would have also expected their population to decrease after introducing a predator to their environment. The crayfish reminded me of the keystone species sea stars, that I learned about through a lecture on communities and ecosystems. As sushi becomes more of a popular trend the need for fishing rises. One of the fishes that are affected by this is salmon. In the beginning they were only fished in nature but as globalization continues we developed a new strategy to produce more, farmed fishing. By raising your own salmon you can produce enough for consumer needs and keep the same consistency by feeding them the exact same proportions. The problem with this concept is that we are using cheap foods and chemicals to grow these salmons. Wild salmon tend to be oilier with plenty of omegas 3 and hardly any fat (white stripes) in their meat. They also eat algae and plankton while most farmed salmon are fed corn. Farmed salmon are also injected with artificial omega 3 as these fishes aren't producing as much oil compared to the wild salmon due to their environment.

For the weekend I’m DEFINITELY going to be fishing. Fishing is my number one favorite sport. I hope to be fishing on Pokegama lake near Pine City for that is where we are going to be all weekend every weekend seeing that we have a business out near Pine City, plus my grandparents live out there. The Snake River is behind their house and my grandpa has this magnificent fishing spot for night fishing (7-8ish pm) and there are walleyes there. The first night I fished there I was with my him and I caught two sheephead (Freshwater Drums). One super nice one and one normal sized one. This weekend I’m probably going to have a mild sunburn due to the fact I am going to be outside all day (hopefully!). I can probably “persuade” my grandpa to out on the water away from his pheasants (just came in the mail). The pheasants are like baby chicks right now, but in about 3-4 weeks they will be able to fly. Anyway, the snake river has a ton of sheepshead in it and he is going to make fish patties out of them (totally did not say that yesterday….)
