5) If you could be any literary character in fiction, who would it be and why? If I could be any literary character in fiction I would be Pippi Longstocking. Pippi Longstocking is the main character in a popular series of children's books written by Astrid Lindgren. Pippi is a independent girl who is strong and carefree, she along with her horse and monkey all live a house with no parent supervision. I would want to be her because of the way she lives her life, Pippi is always doing something that is against the societal norm and I admire her for this. We live in a world full of strict standards with the mindset that if we do not stick to those standards we will fail, but Pippi does not have this mindset. She does what she wants not caring
The character I have chosen in the book, Downriver, is Troy. The reason for me to pick Troy was because he was the oldest and seemed to know what he was doing. Troy is the character who wants to be in control. There were three events that happened to him where I feel his character shined.

The character in which I would compare myself to is Harry. Harry may be perceived to be the ‘bad boy’ the one who causes trouble, but deep down he turns to be Tessa’s hero. He brings a sense of reality and says things straight. An example of this is when Tessa is too caught up in something Harry gives it to her straight, this quote is from chapter 27 “You know what your problem is Theresa? Your problem is that you read too many damn novels and you forget that they are all bullshit. There are no Darcy’s there are only Wickham’s and Alec d’Urbervilles. So wake up and stop expecting me to be some god damned literary hero because it’s not going to happen!” Another example of this is in chapter 66 when Harry is talking to Tessa “I guess that’s the
“There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you. We stick together and can see it through, cause you’ve got a friend in me” from Disney’s Toy Story. This quote is incredible because it really shows how completely unforgettable the characters in Toy Story truly are. What makes it memorable are the complex personalities and their wonderful friendships like Woody and Buzz Lightyear have from Toy Story. However, what extraordinary characters have amazing personality in novels? People have tons of different opinions but Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are great examples of unforgettable characters. The success of literary works depends greatly on the quality of its characters, which is why it is essential to have characters, both major and minor, with distinct and contrasting personalities. Not only are minor characters used as foils for the major characters by emphasizing their important character traits, but in many cases they furthermore play a crucial role in the advancement of the plot. In the three novels that were examined this year, The Great Gatsby, The Kite Runner, and The Handmaids Tale, the minor character had a pivotal role in the development of the plot.
