[ACT: sounds of gunshots] First a warning, then a deadly shooting. A gang-related attack has taken place in Los Angeles. Gabriella Rasso has more on the shooting. A deadly gang attack on Sunday night has left three dead and six wounded over gang turf, but the victims were not gang affiliated.
The victims were warned to stop selling drugs on the gang’s turf. [ACT: The victims had been selling rock cocaine in the South Central Los Angeles neighborhood, and a day or two before the shooting they were warned by purported gang members [MORE] to stop dealing at that location--- Police Chief Willie Williams.] The police report that the victims were not gang members. That night, the victims were drinking beer and playing cards
I have observed that individuals and communities, and institutions think that poverty, gang violence and child abuse is what represent who you are and where you belong. Going through poverty, gang violence and child abuse would lead individuals in the wrong direction in life. When an individual or a communities see a gang member or someone they don’t care about that person because they say once you’re in the hole it hard to come back out. I just think it wrong for individuals and communities to judge people the way they do. People are the way they for a reason. Everybody has a kind heart. They made not seem like they do but they do. Their mostly likely that because there not given love or support. Like in the story said they in need of attention.
Although detectives are working hard on the case to prevent further chaos between these two groups, the lack of witness and evidence is slowing them down. This information, provided by the gang-crimes unit, is unfortunate but not so unusual. The fear gangs have put into the community is the cause to blame.
All three texts share a common theme on mass shootings while using the research, findings, and published works of Professor Adam Lankford. Each of the texts uses the rhetorical aim Inform and Explain due to all three texts being presented in a expository manner. These texts fit the definitions and criteria for Inform and Explain as they are confident which is shown by making the purpose of the paper known early on and the continued stream of confidence throughout all three texts. In Newsweeks article Study: Mass Shootings ‘Exceptionally American Problem’ the title immediately states the purpose of the article followed by referring to Lankfords work almost immediately on how these mass shootings develop in America. This confidence and purpose
Chapter Four is entitled, “[The] Scope and Nature of the Current Gang Problem.” It focuses on recent trends in number of gangs, gang members and gang-related crimes in each city. In Inglewood, almost all the neighborhoods were claimed by at least one gang, with gang-unit officers agreeing that the city was facing a major gang problem. In Albuquerque, gangs were involved in drug trafficking and property offenses, with 7 out of 8 gang-unit officers believing the city had a major gang problem. In Las Vegas, migration from other cities was thought to be the primary cause of an increase in gang members. 50% of crime in Las Vegas is attributed to gangs, with most officers believing they had a moderate to major gang problem. In Phoenix, the gang problem is described as wave-like, with 70% of gang-unit officers thinking the city had a major gang problem. These statistics were backed up through interviews with officers and city records.
This particular gang and the members in it protect each other like family. That being said, one of the female gang members had spent two days looking for the two teenagers. She ended up finding them in the City for Palm Springs in a vacant lot. Upon her arrival she took out a firearm and fired multiple rounds at the two teenagers. One of the boys was hit in the shoulder while the other was struck in the throat.
There are hundreds of gangs all over Chicago. These gangs are reckless and try to show their superiority by shooting rival gang members. When committing such acts, these gang members fail to realize that they aren’t the only ones who live in this city. There are
The topic that I would like to talk about is gang violence in the United States. There is a lot of violence that has been going around and it continues to go around. According to the CDC 80 percent of gun related deaths are gang related. One of the main cities with gang problems is Chicago. In 2016 there was 762 murders, 3,550 shooting incidents, and 4,331 shooting victims. This was an all time high. This is a major problem and something needs to be done about it, and fast. A lot of people are losing their lives for no reason at all. There needs to be more police patrolling the streets and making sure people are safe. Most of these gang related shootings happen in low poverty areas and no one is really doing anything to fix this problem. The governor
Gun violence has been a problem for quite a long time in America and it can't go on. Gun violence needs to come to a stop, but what is going to happen to bring it to an end. Many lives are being taken every year from high powered guns and what can happen to prevent it. There aren't many things that can prevent these things from happening, but it can be stopped.
The main source of income for gangs is drug trafficking in urban areas. (“Gang Violence”). This shows the way that gangs get money and it can show that some gang violence takes place because of the drug game. “It is broadly assumed that gang-related homicides are directly linked to drug trafficking activities.” (“Gang Violence”). The quote here shows the correlation of drug trafficking and gang violence. Drug trafficking leads to gang violence for a number of different reasons. In a news article, it stated that there was a massive drug bust containing over 10,000 dollars worth of drugs and guns (Davey). This explains because it is a prime example of how violence rises with drug trafficking. When cities do not invest, it will lead to a lot of gang activity. With gang activity comes the drug game and drugs cause a lot of violence such as shootings and
Many people believe carrying a gun would protect and keep them safe but, yet guns have been mostly involved in many of the deaths caused each year. Instead, of using a gun for protection, many people misuse this weapon, increasing unintended injuries, and even deaths. Many gun shootings were even caused by people’s emotion, such as feeling weak, or hateful between another human being. Bryce Williams who was fired from the station felt nothing but, frustration which were one of the reason to cause the shooting of Alison Parker and Adam Ward. The gun, ended up in the wrong hand, which allowed the Bryce to put other people’s life at risk causing two deaths and an injury. Instead, of people causing less violence to the world, all they are doing
Racial discrimination, aggression, and police brutality have been an ongoing issue in the U.S, It was present in the past and continues to be a problem to this day, peaceful protests are turing into murder scenes children are being taught to fear cops instead of trust them people are afraid to leave their home. There is an obvious underlying issue causing innocent lives on both sides to be lost.
We have a problem. Guns. This should not be a surprise. Gun shootings are one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Everyday, people’s lives are taken by a gun in the most traumatic way. Mass shootings is an incident involving multiple victims where a shooter or a group injuries and kills numerous of innocent lives of firearm-related violence. Mass shootings account for a tiny fraction of the country’s gun deaths, but they are uniquely terrifying because they can occur anywhere and anytime. School shootings are increasing every year due to the misuse of guns. Children should feel safe at schools as they are there for an education They should not have to worry about another possible mass shootings. Since the recent school mass
A new study confirms that black men and women are treated differently in the hands of law enforcement. They are more likely to be touched, handcuffed, pushed to the ground or pepper-sprayed by a police officer, even after accounting for how, where and when they encounter the police.
Sifting through the murders in the Austin neighborhood, in particular, every victim was a black male, aged 21-30. Two were shot in a drive-by. The other two murders in that most violent neighborhood had the appearance of planned executions, not related to any immediate argument. Together the four killing suggest gang violence. The men were targets that were preselected, not spur-of-the-moment killings due to a fight or robbery.
On April 29th, 2013, two rivaling gangs, the Valley Hood Piru and the East Union Street Hustlers, claiming stakes to the Central District of Seattle, result in the shooting of two victims. Ronald “Messy” Massey, a member of the East Union Street Hustlers, was reported to have shot two members of the rivaling gang at a local convenient store (Vaughn, 2013). Reports suggest that the shooting was accredited to the gangs ' "violent clashes in the past” and possibly Massey’s intent in solidifying his standing as a gang member (Fucoloro, 2013). Furthermore, detectives believe that Massey may have been pressured to prove his loyalty (Vaughn, 2013). The media emphasizes that the rising intensity of the rivalry is the main factor that is resulting in the increase of gang activities, but the lack of questioning by the media on the possible causal factors that lead to the crime limits the understanding of the motives.
