The big summer headline that I have chosen Cecil the Lion. According to an article in The New York Times, the thirteen year old lion was lured out of his out of his sanctuary in a Zimbabwean national park which was placed there to lead Cecil to cross into an unprotected area by hunters. After being lured out, a Dr. Palmer – a dentist, shot the lion, first with a crossbow. The shot with the arrow was not able to kill Cecil and he ran away. He was tracked for nearly two days before finally being killed with a gun shot. Cecil was then decapitated and skinned, leaving the carcass of the lion. Once he was found to be the murderer of the beloved Cecil, he was mobbed digitally. His Yelp page was overrun with many comments blaming him along with his dentistry website was taken offline and many parody accounts popped up of his office. …show more content…
The nature enthusiasts and conservations troubles by wealthy big-game hunters were outraged. On the other hand, hunting advocates, along with some conservationists, argue that the selling of licenses to big-game hunters can pay for efforts to actually protect endangered species. Basically, this article is pretty even in sides and brings up the question of whether or not the killing of Cecil was correct of not. For me, it is not right at all. I have never been a big advocate of hunting, but I do understand why hunting must occur sometimes. Some situations that I find morally acceptable are when containing a population of animals to protect and ecosystem or having to hunt for food and
In Heather Wilhelm’s “Cecil the Lion and America’s Broken Outrage Meter,” written in 2015, the killing of Africa’s most beloved lion is discussed and tried. Cecil the Lion is one of Zimbabwe’s most famous animals and is located on his own natural preserve. Dr. Walter James Palmer, dentist from Minnesota, hired a group of “professional guides” to assist him in the hunting of the king of the jungle. Palmer says he did not know of Cecil the lion and only wanted to sportily hunt the animal, not to cruelly murder him. This controversy has been going on for over 3 months now on what really happened and who is responsible for the bloodshed of the famous lion. Celebrities such as Sharon Osbourne, Jimmy Kimmel, and even PETA themselves have suggested
It was an astounding season of making new friends, bonding, improving skill level and learning with the lady lions. The girls went through intense training which in turn helped them keep the odds balanced. Mr.Benoit brought in the outside help of four professional womens' rugby players to assist coaching the girls which benefited the lady lions tremendously, Congratulations on your incredible season ladies, you should feel greatly accomplished. We may be at an end for now, but wait until next year when you come back with more fierceness lady
Hunting throughout the United States has adapted to fit the needs of the people and new technology. Some might argue that hunting has become unethical and that animals need to be protected, but no one fights for animal protection more than hunters. Hunters, while using new technology, are making unethical decisions that affect the way other people hunt; these changes should be regulated so hunters are not making unethical decisions, effectively better conservation of animals. Hunting has grown in ways many people never would have thought possible. According to Aldo Leopold, a well known hunter, “Ethical behavior is doing the right thing when no one else is
Cecil the Lion was a well-known 13 year old male lion who once resided in the Hwange game reserve in Zimbabwe. The lion was lured away from the sanctuary with the use of food out of the game reserve. Cecil was then killed by an illegal party of big game hunters. The man who killed Cecil was identified by conservation groups as American, Dr. Walter Palmer, a dentist in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (CBS 1) James Palmers, the hunting guide, and a landowner whose property is adjacent to the Hwange game reserve, are facing poaching charges. The two men were both granted 1,000 dollars each of bail money.(CBS 19) In 2008, Palmer had been in trouble for poaching, and plead guilty to a license violation after killing a black bear.(Independent 1) Relevantly, it shows that Palmer is a known poacher and has no
Cecil the Lion were part of many endangered species. It is a major crime to kill animals that are endangered. Palmer knew that Cecil was a special lion to the National Parks. Walter Palmer lured Cecil out of captivity, and he maliciously killed Cecil. Palmer also put Cecil’s cubs in danger.
The death of an endangered species was a very controversial subjects within the world today. One of the most recent was the illegal hunting and killing of Cecil the Lion. Walter Palmer, the hunter, tracked and stole the life of an endangered species. In Matthew Drake’s article, “Cecil the Lion,” Walter Palmer should be fined because he poached an endangered species, he killed an endangered species, and he caused a cascade of deaths within the pride. One of the major arguments was that Palmer took the life of a dwindling species.
Since the European colonization of eastern Africa, trophy hunting has been a highly debatable topic. During the early days of trophy hunting, dwindling numbers of some of the world’s most unique and prized wildlife was not a problem like it is today. Wildlife conservationists and hunters continue to debate the merits of legalized hunting on the economy and on the environment. However, not all hunters value the economic benefits and have passion for the outdoors. In fact, some of these hunters are conservationists themselves, who believe that it will allow for better conservation efforts in the long run. In another perspective, trophy hunters tend to downplay the reality of the killing part. To kill is to put to death, extinguish, nullify, cancel, or destroy. There is a fine line between conservation, and senseless killing of animals involved in trophy hunting.
Trophy hunting is an ongoing issue, there are 500,000 black bears in Canada. 29,300 are bears that are legal to kill every year. Activist not in favor of the bear killings try to stop bear hunter but do sometimes go overboard. About 15 activists have been charged but the charges have been dropped. Many bear hunters do kill for fun and for the thriller of it. This does cause a resistance to authority because many believe it is unfair to why bears are being killed for no reason, and how many of the bear hunters are
There are just too many musicals to pick from and they each have or had their own way of affecting/changing Broadway. In my opinion, a musical that not only changed what was on stage, but what was outside as well opened on November 13, 1997. The Lion King, still running today on Broadway and on many stages around the world. It laid down the groundwork for the blockbuster era that defines the New Your Theater Industry today. It was the start of the New Broadway.
Anything is acceptable as long as it is legal. Or so that’s what they say. If so why worry or make a big deal over something that’s legal? The reason.... We don’t agree with the result so we want our way or nothing at all;not caring if it’s legal or not. In the case of Zimbabwe it is legal to hunt. So the only thing left to decide is if Killing Cecil the lion was acceptable or unacceptable; I think that killing for big game hunting is acceptable as long as it is legal. thesis
To put this on equal terms, think one day you and your family are taking a leisurely stroll down the park. While walking down the spark another person randomly tries to kill you. But, no one but your mom is wounded with a poisoned wound without an antidote. Frighten you would not be able to know or think straight with the sight of someone dear to you dying right in front of your eyes. Now if you would please take that picture and put it in terms of an animal being hunted by another species far more advanced, without a way to protect themselves. Is it really morally right to kill another living thing for sport? Especially when the animal involved is on the endangered species list, to be fair, it is on the endangered species list for a reason because it is on the verge of becoming extinct. So let me ask you again why should anybody think it's more to hunt and kill animals that are endangered or simply in our backyards. it is morally wrong to continue trophy hunting as a Leisure activity when endangered animals are
In conclusion, I don’t agree with big game hunting because statistics show that non lethal nature viewing benefits more than simply killing animals for money. Not only that, but they kill the animal, only taking the parts they want and leaving the rest to rot. To kill an innocent creature for bragging rights is simple
When a Minnesota dentist killed a prized African lion named "Cecil" he received an onslaught of criticism and reignited the debate concerning hunting. I hunt. I have hunted for years and I don't see anything wrong with it. The reasons I hunt are for the meat, I think it tastes better than store-bought meat and it doesn't have any additives in it, and for the time I get to spend out in the mountains. However, there are some people who are against hunting.
Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, The Lion King is one of those rare movies that actually makes people get goosebumps at the opening scene when they hear the song with vivid nature scenes the footage presented. It’s a Disney animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and nearly everyone knows that all Disney movies come with beautiful pieces of songs. Although the film itself is kind of vintage since it was released in 1994, the music from The Lion King far surpasses any other movies in Disney’s history. As a matter of fact, it should be categorized under the “animated epic musical film” since the music is so amazing that could even match another musical movie called The Sound of Music, but composes in a luxurious balance of nature and philosophy. In a nutshell, The Lion King manages to tell a great story with splendid music presented.
Everyday thousands of animals are brutally murdered by people that participate in the recreational activity that is hunting. Hunting is an activity that involves a person attempting to kill or trap an animal.
