Many of us deal with the occasional heart burn or a gaseous filled stomach. Although not everyone deals with it constantly. The constant feeling of burning in your esophagus and having to take a Zantac twice a day is not something that many people look forward to. There are a three simple steps to dealing with acid reflux. Dealing with illnesses can either defeat us or overcome us. Taking medicine is always essential in being successful during any illness. The first step in dealing with acid reflux. When talking about different medicine types, WebMD states, “Depending on the source of your heartburn or reflux, your doctor can prescribe drugs that block acid production more effectively and for a longer period of time…” (Proton Pump Inhibitors). Either Zantac or Previcid will calm that heart burn and that acid from rising in the esophagus. If the medicine is not taken, the risk of esophageal cancer rises. Medicine is a key in treating acid reflux. Stress levels have a major part in controlling acid reflux. When the medicine is not taken and stress levels are up it causes the acid to flare up majorly. Personally, I know when I am stressed out my acid reflux has the worst flare ups. Stressing over a big test, a big paper, or a big life event usually causes the most stress. The final step is eating correctly. That Big Mac from McDonalds will do acid reflux no good. McDonalds, Burger King, Zaxby’s or any of those other fast food chains are not good to be eaten every day. The fat and grease from these foods cause major heartburn and acid to build up. Also, those sodas and juices like Sprite and Fruit Punch are no good too. Really, the only drink that is suitable for acid reflux is water. Although a room temperature Sprite or Coke will get those gas bubbles out of your chest and stomach.
