When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I only had two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home (Hinton 1). The Outsiders wrote by S.E. Hinton was a story in the 1960’s based off of a real life story in the small town of Tulsa, Oklahoma of how two groups the Greasers and the Socs didn’t get along and had disagreements that slowly lead to tragedy and conflict. The three character aspects that would best describe the Greasers is sticking together, reputation and kindness. The first aspect is sticking together because in tough times they will always help each other out. Greasers can’t even walk home alone too much or they will get jumped or someone will come by and yell “Greaser!” (2). When Ponyboy got jumped by the Socs, there squad came and scared away the Socs and helped Ponynoy stay away from danger. As a child Ponyboys parents died his two older brothers and the rest of the squad helped raise him. The second aspect is reputation because, Greaser may not have much, but they have a reputation (132). This reputation differentiate the greasers from the rest of the groups. Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have gang fight once in a while (3). They are known for their long greasy hair that they spike back, leather …show more content…

But then tragedy happened Johnny died in the hospital over whelmed with grief Dallas also known as (Dally) robbed a store and purposely pulled a gun on the police the wasn’t loaded. Through Johnny kindness to give his life to save children made him a kind hearted
“Your relationship should be a safe haven, not a battlefield. The world is hard enough already.”-- Anonymous. One of the teenagers in the story had a very abusive relationship with his parents. He was never loved as much as he wanted to be loved. When Susan Eloise Hinton wrote The Outsiders when she was 15 years old. She saw class warfare happening at her school and also hung out with many greasers but also some socs. The Outsider is a book about greasers and socs and their many differences. The socs are the rich upper-class kids who were born in a good neighborhood. The greasers are the poor lower class kids they were born in a very bad neighborhood. The greasers normally get in trouble sometimes for things they did to or things they
Another example is when the church caught on fire and there were kids in it. Johnny and ponyboy went in to save the kids but johnny was badly injured. Johnny is
Also after Dally visted them and took them out for a meal when they came back there were people at the church and the church was on fire. The people there were worried about a couple kids that were still stuck in the building. So Johnny and Ponyboy and Dally went in the building to save them. Johnny wasn’t as lucky as Ponyboy in injuries. When Johnny tried to get out of the building the roof caved in and came down on him.
As Ponyboy states when he starts to understand this, “No, it wasn’t Cherry the Soc who was helping us, it was Cherry the dreamer who watched sunsets and couldn’t stand fights.” (Hinton 86). Ponyboy was previously under the impression that all Socs didn’t care about anything, and was surprised when he met Cherry, a Soc who watched the same sunset as he did. The stereotype of Socs being heartless and cruel was all he had seen and heard, so it was hard for him to understand how one could be so different. Ponyboy’s friends felt similarly, and most of them found it even harder to grasp this concept than Ponyboy had. The Greasers were used to judging the Socs as a group, and did not see them as individuals. These group stereotypes are what ultimately caused most of the biggest fights in the novel.
Johnny had an abusive relationship with his parents. According to Ponyboy he says: “He would have run away…” (12). Johnny hasn’t had an easy life, his parents do not pay much attention to him and are verbally and physically abusive to him. Also, because of him being a Greaser he got beaten very badly by the Socs. In Johnny’s case he was used to being abused by his parents but after the Socs got a hold of him he saw that abuse is bad, and after almost being beaten to death he lived in fear every day. Johnny never hurts other people but when he sees others being mistreated he steps in. “I killed him”, he said slowly, “I killed that boy” (49). In this quote, Ponyboy is telling what Johnny told him after he killed Bob. Because of the Socs drowning Ponyboy, Johnny feels angry for what they were doing so he lets anger take over and he kills Bob. Later in the book, Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally help save the kids from the church fire. Johnny gets hurt and has to go to the hospital. In this hospital Johnny mentions “It was worth saving those kids. Their lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for” ( ). Johnny realizes that the best thing he could have done was save those children, even if it meant losing his life. Because of the violence that he faced at home and with the Socs he was ok with dying because he saved the children’s
They later run away to Windrixville in an abandoned church at the top of the hill after they murder Bob, The Soc. Johnny died in the hospital after saving several school kids lives. Dallas also died because a police officer shot
You can’t run away or give up on your problems because they will always follow you. The greasers never give up. The Outsiders is a book where it is mainly about a boy named ponyboy who has a pretty crazy life with some crazy people in it. People always look at the Greasers as a cold blooded Group, but really they also have feelings that can get hurt. They are not all they seem to be.
The Outsiders is a novel written by Susan Eloise Hinton, also known as S.E Hinton. The setting of the story takes place in the 1960s. The Outsiders is written in first person view, by Ponyboy Curtis. The story revolves around the greasers and Socs. The Socs are the west side rich kids, they wrecked houses and “threw beer blasts for kicks”. While the Greasers were the east side kids, they “drove old souped-up cars, held up gas stations and had gang fights once in a while.” One of the conflicts the characters face is man vs man, which is because the greasers and Socs don’t get along, this is because they feel superior to each other. They both had different ways of lives, they did different things for fun, and they did not understand each other. This conflict was later resolved towards the end of the story when Ponyboy speaks to Randy about no longer fighting after Bob’s death.
They wore old black leather jackets, long greasy hair, faded ripped jeans, and ratted tennis-shoes. Pony boy described the greaser style… shoes or boots. Their lifestyle consisted of rodeos, mugging people, stealing items from convenience stores or people, fighting, and smoking. Greasers don't usually have much money. They are high school dropouts; they don't like school most of the time.
Furthermore, Johnny's courageous acts and words, as well as his premature death, inspire Ponyboy to write about his experiences and to pursue a better path in life. He can be considered a person who takes responsibility for his actions, because he saved the children in the church, which he and Ponyboy burned down

The Greasers are of lower class standings with harsh upbringings, poor kids from the wrong side of town (north) and are considered delinquents. The Socs, are privileged kids living on the south side who have an easy life where everything

Johnny would do anything to save his friends. After Dally drove Pony and Johnny to eat some much- needed food. They came back to see the church that Johnny and Pony were hiding out in on fire. There was a school having a picnic there. Some of the kids trapped inside the church. Without saying anything, Pony jumped out of the car and ran into the burning church with Johnny behind him. Right after saving the kids, Pony described, ‘‘Johnny shoved me out the window. ‘Get out!’ I leaped out the window and I heard timber crashing and the flames roaring right behind me” (Hinton 97). Instead of saving himself, Johnny pushed Pony out the window and saved him. Johnny puts others before himself and is willing to risk his life for others. This act is truly heroic.
Towards the middle of the story, a boy named Johnny had killed a Soc that was drowning Ponyboy. He and Ponyboy fled the city to another town, and hid in an abandon church there for a week. When they were going to leave, they realized the church was on fire and there was kids trapped inside. Johnny and Pony were good friends and they decided to go help the children. After they rescued the children, they had to escape the burning, ravaged building. A flaming, steaming hot beam from the ceiling fell on Johnny. After this happened, Pony passed out, “ I leaped out the window and heard timber crashing and the flames roaring right behind me. I staggered, almost
