Reputation In S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders

When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I only had two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home (Hinton 1). The Outsiders wrote by S.E. Hinton was a story in the 1960’s based off of a real life story in the small town of Tulsa, Oklahoma of how two groups the Greasers and the Socs didn’t get along and had disagreements that slowly lead to tragedy and conflict. The three character aspects that would best describe the Greasers is sticking together, reputation and kindness. The first aspect is sticking together because in tough times they will always help each other out. Greasers can’t even walk home alone too much or they will get jumped or someone will come by and yell “Greaser!” (2). When Ponyboy got jumped by the Socs, there squad came and scared away the Socs and helped Ponynoy stay away from danger. As a child Ponyboys parents died his two older brothers and the rest of the squad helped raise him. The second aspect is reputation because, Greaser may not have much, but they have a reputation (132). This reputation differentiate the greasers from the rest of the groups. Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have gang fight once in a while (3). When Ponyboy and Johnny were walking home and they saw that, The Church was on fire! (90). Both Ponyboy and Johnny ran into the burning church to help the children to get out, risking their own life for the greater good of everyone. Unfortunately, Johnny got critically injured by heavy roof support that collapsed on top of him. But then tragedy happened Johnny died in the hospital over whelmed with grief Dallas also known as (Dally) robbed a store and purposely pulled a gun on the police the wasn’t loaded. Through Johnny kindness to give his life to save children made him a kind hearted
