Summarily, Romeo and Juliet share such a strong, perpetual relationship that they rather die together then have to live a life alone. Juliet, knows nothing about the murderous scene between Romeo, Tybalt, and Mercutio; she anxiously waits for Romeo. Juliet senses immediately that something is not right, when the nurse enters instead of Romeo. Initially, Juliet does not realize that Romeo killed her cousin, although she believes that Romeo has been killed. Cursing Romeo is Juliet's first reaction. In this essay, I will be examining Shakespeare’s treatment of relationships in Romeo and Juliet. As a poet and playwright, he wrote 154 sonnets, 2 long narrative poems and 38 plays, one of his most famous plays being Romeo and Juliet. There are many different types of relationships between characters, and these are essential to the play. The prologue tells us that the play is about two star-crossed lovers from two feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets. There is hatred between these two families, this explains this, ‘Thou villain Capulet’. This quote suggests because of the hate between their families, the lovers are doomed from the start.

In the beginning, we see Juliet 's character as a little young child who obeys her family duties. When she meets, Romeo, her character is taken on a rollercoaster of emotions. Juliet separates emotionally and physically from her family, because of her obsession with new found, quick love that causes her to grow up just enough to outsmart her parents and achieve her own goals. Juliet becomes enamored by the idea of love very quickly. The idea of love consumes the young girl’s time and actions, “Love’s herald should be thoughts, which ten times faster glides than the sun’s beam” (2.5.4-5). Juliet waits impatiently for the news from the nurse about her love interest, while she paces the room talking to herself and groaning about the glory of love. The impatient Capulet complains about how love should be fast with its arrival, and how hers is not arriving fast enough. The young teenager focuses greatly on love and
