Overall, this is a verifiable piece that says a lot about education and the small ways that certain trends and assumptions can end up inadvertently hurting students.
Now, I would like to discuss the specific layout of the article. While this is often an afterthought or more implicit, formatting does matter. I saw that this also played a role in my initial response. I thought it was well organized and easy to follow thanks to the headings and quotes. It kept me focused, however there were somethings that I was surprised by and had some questions about. For example, a comparison to the medical field and being a critical consumer was made at the start of the article. I wish they could have elaborated on that further because I do recognize a connection there. I have a feeling that people would benefit from seeking those links further. I was also wondering about bias and how someone would tackle that in a piece like this. They also mention that the start of this whole “learning styles” idea occurred in the 70’s and I wanted a bit more info on how that all manifested. There was quite a bit to take in here but overall, had a positive reaction to this piece.
How does this relate to me? When seeing how this article relates to me, I believe it is best to start with the most obvious. I am a student myself and have been a student in a formal education setting for most of my life.
