Two Nitrogen atoms are near the center of the molecule. The way they connected together with double bond is referred as an “azo” bond. Therefore, it makes Red Dye #40 a part of the “azo” family. Use of the artificial coloration of the foods was common even in ancient times. Many of colorants that contained toxic inorganic salts, were used to mask inferior or spoiled foods. Later, in the mid18000s, when there was a rapid development and use of scientific instruments, scientists made the first synthetic dye from coal tar. Therefore, organic-based dyes began to replace toxic mineral salts. No investigations were done to identify the safety of these dyes and, as a result of this, there were many health problems in people. In 1906,
Yet another accomplishment has been achieved at Chino Hills High School that only adds to the prosperity and Husky spirit of this illustrious and triumphant school. Colorguard is an intense, exhilirating and fun sport. It involves dance, spinning wooden rifles, flags and sabres. In the United States and in most of the world food dyes are exceedingly common. In addition to this, they have been brought into question as being dangerous for human and environmental health. From general observation and knowledge about this topic I knew that Red #40 dye (Allura Red AC) is at the height of this controversy. After some initial research, I discovered more information on Azo dyes, their effect on the environment, as well as wastewater treatment used to decontaminate water containing these dyes. This led to my interest on the topic of Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (EAOPs) as a fairly recent solution to environmental issues regarding contaminants in water. I was curious to see how these processes work, as well as
Breathe in the music, and out the performance” is something that freshman Regan Hoyt tells herself before every performance. Color guard has been a sport of the arts that has evolved from primarily a military activity, to a world wide sport.
The definition of a sport is as follows, “Noun; an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.”. I would argue that colorguard, an activity in which one spins flags, weapons, batons, and props with the marching band, should be considered a sport (Dictionary.com).

Passion; deriving from the Latin word “passio” meaning suffering. A life of passion is all about “suffering” for something worthwhile. My love and passion is shown through the form of body movement and leadership; the involvement I have within color guard allows me to explore and develop this passion I have for my artistic expression and cause. Also, a great point made by Lozier was the analysis of the opinion on face painting by the Europeans and how it clearly was hypocritical. At the time of contact many Europeans used cosmetic products in order to whiten their face. However, to many Europeans the use of paint in order to manipulate skin colour was “repulsive, or at the least unsettling” (25,) yet with in their culture a very similar scenario was being played out; the use of cosmetics was even seen as a sign of aristocratic identity (26.) However some Europeans (like Fray Salvador Lopez) realized that the tradition in face painting was little different from Spanish women’s practice of painting their own faces and decided to let the indigenous people continue with their tradition (28.) Lastly, Lozier talks about the introduction of new minerals that made their way into the New World due to trade, to the traditions of face painting. A few of these minerals, amongst which we can find vermilion, were mercury and led
Albinism is a condition that is inherited from both parents where a person is born with a lack of the usual amount of the pigment melanin. Melanin is the main substance that determines what color hair, eyes, and skin tone someone will have. Albinism is also a rare mutation that affects very few people worldwide, though in some places more than others. The symptoms are quite unique for those who have it as well. Some tribes and small villages even kill or exile those with the mutation.
A box of crayons usually consists of twenty-four, all packed tightly into a small, yellow box. Made out of cardboard the box is sturdy yet fragile. Each one is unique in color. Children typically use me, but they have been around for a long time. They are written with a story and end with a picture. They are wrapped tightly in paper and labeled. It was never made with an eraser. Each one shows different sides to a story. Each is sharpened at one point and blunt on the other. The distinct aroma can let a person know what exactly they smell. Every crayon is layered with glossy wax. Crayons are small, and fragile, but they can be used for a long time if treated with care. Twenty-four crayons in a box, giving each color a place to fit in.
Any grocery store you walk into you can see a wide variety of colors, but the sad fact is most of which are most likely artificially made. He in the United States we use about fifteen million pounds of artificial colors in our food, hair products, and even vitamins. We started using dyes in our food in the mid 1800s when Henry Perkin made the first synthetic organic dye, now we are mass producing the dyes and the industry is booming at an alarming rate. These dyes are now in most of our foods; wether it be candy, chips, and juices. These fascinating colors may be attractive to the eye; but they have no real benefits in our food, they can be extremely harmful to your body, and there are plenty of natural alternatives.
