Rebel Without a Cause
One of the major themes that are presented throughout the whole entire movie is the dysfunctional relationship between one of the characters and their fathers. The movie portrays father figures as problematic which then shape the actions and the characters themselves as the movie progresses. We can see all three dynamics of the father figure presented through Jim, Judy, and Plato. Through Jim, the father figure that he is presented with is a father who is weak allows himself to be walked on by Jim¡¯s mother and grandmother. Judy¡¯s father, on the other hand, is quite the opposite of Jim¡¯s father in that he is the overbearing, masculine, and insensitive. Lastly, we see the absence of a

Now, Jim sees this in his father and swears to himself that he will never be the ¡°chicken¡± his father is. This leads to the decisions he makes in the movie, for example, going to the ¡°chicken¡± run to uphold his honor. He begins to take charge of his own life, being that strong man himself, going to the mansion with Judy to live on their own in order to not become like his father.
The audience is then presented with the complete opposite, through the relationship Judy has with her father. We can see that the father is masculine and insensitive through the way he treats Judy. When Judy tries to show her love to her father by giving him a kiss on the cheek, he goes on to slap her on the face and tells her girls her age are not supposed to do things like that. Then we see the father pick up the son and give him all the attention completely ignoring Judy. Some may say that Judy¡¯s father is a chauvinist. The father¡¯s actions then explain why Judy became involved with Buzz and his crew. It can be argued that because at home she is ignored by her father, she seeks for attention through a manly figure, that being Buzz. After Buzz dies, however, she then moves into a relationship with Jim. What attracts her to Jim is the fact that he is strong man, yet is sensitive and sincere at the same time. He gives her what she has been striving for and looking for from her dad and that fact makes her
Director Nicholas Ray was lucky to have a talented composer create an original score for Rebel Without A Cause. Leonard Rosenman was born in 1924 and studied music in New York and Europe. His work as a film composer and arranger is very traditional, and has been regarded by some music critics as "insignificant." However, Rosenman received Academy Awards and Oscar nominations for his work. Along with film scores, Rosenman wrote theme music and scores for numerous television shows. The score in Rebel Without A Cause is much like another film starring James Dean, East of Eden.
Thanks to his strong personality and nature, Jim develops into a wonderful man by the end of the novel, despite having gone through many difficult times. He used these tragedies to form himself into a strong person, instead of allowing it to break him down. When he was very young, he was orphaned, and sent to live in a new state, ‘I was ten years old then; I had lost both my father
After the French and Indian war, English colonists had to pay taxes passed by Parliament. Since the colonists were not represented in Parliament and had no say in how the taxes were made, they became upset. This has inspired the colonists to unite and fight for their independence. Events that took place after 1763 that helped unite the colonists were the New Quartering Act of 1774 and Liber-tea, while the Stamp Act Riot, the Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party inspired the colonists to fight for their independence.
Open protest, conflicting interests, lives changed forever. This is a rebellion. You’re willing to fight the authorities to be heard. Armed rebellion is only justifiable if nothing else works. The Rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada, Red River Rebellion, and Northwest Rebellion are all part of Canadian history. They show us that people can go against the government which usually results in a large loss of life, but more importantly change.
For Cause and Comrades by James M. McPherson consists of mostly of soldiers’ diaries and letters home as to why the men were fighting the Civil War. The initial motivation the union and confederacy sustain throughout the story proves that personal honor is valued more than their lives.
The American Rebels were a part of the American revolutionary war they were the colonists of 13 American colonies and their army. The united states of American were trying to become independent from Britain. At the start of the war in 1775 lead by Richard Montgomery they attacked the province of Quebec. This was the first attack by the American rebels and more were to come but on July 4th 1776 America was given independence. This event is important to Canada because this was the worst invasion of Canada and the revolutionary war is a big part of history in general. Also if the American Revolution wouldn’t have happened American may still have been with the British which would make the world a lot different than it is
In the 1950’s, the division between adults and youth was growing due to the negativity surrounding the youth culture of the time. The movies, “Rebel Without A Cause” and “Blackboard Jungle, focus on the juvenile delinquency of teenagers of the time such as, the disrespect toward authority, issues of crime, and the uncontrollable emotions. “Rebel Without A Cause” focuses on the teenage rebellion of one teenager who has a very troubled relationship with his father because of the unjustified alienation and victimization he receives. Jim Stark, one of the main characters struggles for the command and support from both of his parents, but specifically his dad. In a scene where Jim was arguing with his mother, Jim looked to his father for support,
Nonviolent resistance is the practice of achieving goals such as social change through symbolic protests, civil disobedience, economic or political noncooperation, satyagraha, or other methods, without using violence. To understand the American War for Independence, we have to look at the time period of 1763, with the signing of the Treaty of Paris, to 1776, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We also have to realize that the Seven Years’ War had a profound effect upon the American Colonies and their political standings. It is because of this war that Britain was forced to change its colonial policies, which in turn led the Americans to become revolutionaries. The Seven Years’ War itself showed the American Colonialists that they could unite together against a common foe, it just so happened that Britain did not expect to be one of them. I hope to show how the Seven Years’ War was the triggering effect that started both Britain and

Should I conform? Should I rebel? This has and always will be, a constant battle struggled individually, or as a society. A certain amount of conformity needs to exist in life in order to avoid disorder. This is the reason we have laws. Take those laws, rules, control, or even expectations, to an extreme, and some form of rebellion is probable. Struggle with these opposites, and you have a catalyst for war, or perhaps, being fired from a job. Literature represents life, and this theme can be found at the root of many literary works.
The years of 1763-1765 were truly defining moments for colonist of the colonies, soon to become the United States of America. ‘’War! War! This is the only way!” American Colonist shouted,as they took to the streets proclaiming defiance of British rule. “We as a people shall fight for our freedom and have victory. No more shall we continue to let others control our countries and give our money to a monarch who has no concern for our right’s, dedication that was put forth to help fight and respect us as loyal subjects. We must fight for our freedom!” When American colonist waged war it proved to be the only way for the colonies to become free from Britian. In turn, the colonist were justified in breaking away from England because of: The
In life there are many situations where rebellion is required for change and improvement. Some are simple, like growing up and learning not to do certain things and others are more complex like when a group of people stand up for what they believe, for example, women’s rights and black’s rights. I believe that rebellion is healthy for any growing society. There are many things that we do not agree with, whether it is the law or our parent’s instructions. By rebelling we can change our society and/or ourselves for better.
Oppression and discrimination has existed and continues to exist in the past, present, and future history of the United States. The mistreatment of particular groups infringe on the idea that all individuals are free and equal. Liberation ideology strives to eliminate external and internal oppression of particular groups in both a formal and informal method in our legal system and society. This ideology believes in the freedom and equality of the individual. Similar to welfare liberalism, strong government interaction is necessary to eliminate oppression in the legal system. In our current bipartisan ideological government system, liberation ideology continues to face oppression and discrimination.
The American Revolution was a war for independence. It was a war which was fought for equal rights and the freedom of a would be nation. It showed the pure courage and heart of the American colonists by pitting them against a much more powerful opponent. The British had the best army in the world, and the colonists were often just poor farmers armed with their hunting muskets. It was truly a case of David versus Goliath. The reasons, course, and outcome of the American Revolution provided the perfect scenario for achieving independence.
