Sethe and her daughter Denver live in a house 124 that just happens to be haunted by the ghost of Sethe's first child. She invites Paul D a man she hasn't seen in 18 years into her house to talk. Paul D always had liked Sethe. She was sent there to replace Baby Suggs whose son, Halle, Sethe's husband brought her freedom. Sethe and Denver start to talk about Sweet Home and she tells him about her scar and how it looks like a tree and he caresses her and starts to kiss her scars. When he began doing this the ghost of the house gets angry and begans to shake but eventually Paul D. scares the ghost away.

Normally I’m the one to go run and see the film before I finish reading the book, like lots of other people. The Glass Castle the movie was mesmerizing; it’s showed the struggles that Jeanette and her family dealt with growing up in poverty. The movie also captures the main idea that no matter where you come from you can do anything you put your mind to. While reading “The Glass Castle” by Jeanette Walls the mind creates its own movie of how things are supposed to play out. However the movie seemed to be rushed. Many important scenes that Jeanette described great imagery were crammed into one another. Jeanette’s father, Rex Walls was exactly how I expected him to be. If you asked the average American about the Civil Rights movement, you would definitely hear about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. If you talked to someone with a better memory of history class they may tell you about Malcolm X. The movie Selma released on Christmas day of 2014 covers the Civil Rights movement and is praised for being a compelling movie and a historically accurate one. Selma is a historically accurate movie because it brought in other civil rights leaders, the facts that it got wrong were deliberately purpose, and it showed his relationship with Lyndon B Johnson.

In truth, there is a lot of fabrication of the story; however, the producer applies some elements of the true story that occurred in Rosewood. Based on the movie, the main aim was to provide a movie that is emotionally moving which affects racial affiliation in terms black or white (Gannon, 61). Some of the scenes focus on the emotional reaction, and the depiction of the movie focus on the concept of outside looking in.

Carrie was more of a quiet person who never did anything to anyone. She worked hard on her grades. She wasn’t a very outgoing person. Carrie’s hair was dyed pink, she usually wore ripped jeans and plain t-shirts. Alison on the other hand was the total opposite of Carrie. Alison was known as the school bully. She never did her homework, and she was loud and outgoing and not to mention very mean. Alison had black hair and usually wore shorts and t-shirts. Both Carrie and Alison had blue eyes.

The movie Mrs. Doubtfire was written by Leslie Dixon and Randi Mayem Singer. Leslie Dixon is also known for her works on Limitless, Hairspray, Freaky Friday, and Gone Girl. Randi Mayem Singer has not had as many works as Dixon but you may know her from her work on Tooth Fairy, and Jack & Jill. The director of Mrs. Doubtfire is Chris Columbus. He has directed a lot of movies but the ones that stand out to me are Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, Home Alone, Nine Months, and Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

In other words, patients will commonly make up past achievements about themselves in order to create a better self-image. In the movie, Georgina, who was Susanna’s roommate, was a pathological liar. Throughout the film, she continuously told lies in order to better her self-presentation. For instance, she threatens another patient when she says “My dad is the head of the CIA and he could have you dead in minutes”. She used this lie to portray herself as having powerful and influential family members and to depict herself in a better way to the other patients. Furthermore, Goffman writes, “One typically finds that he constructs an image of his life course – past, present, and future – which selects, abstracts, and distorts in such a way as to provide him with a view of himself which he can usefully expound in current situations” (Goffman 1961:498). This is seen through another character in the film, Polly. Polly is a disfigured patient checked into the mental hospital because of her schizophrenia and depression. She has various burns on her face and body and tells the other patients she was part of a bad fire. This causes the other patients to feel bad for her and show her sympathy. In the movie Mean Girls (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEQV2OJVBx4), there is a scene where the Plastics all go to visit Regina George’s house (Regina is the Queen Bee of the Plastics). In this scene we meet Regina’s mom who greets the girls like they are all friends, she then proceeds to tell the girls that there are no rules in the house. This is apparent when we then see how Regina speaks to her mother, and how she treats others throughout the duration of the movie.

The movie, The DUFF, is a typical high school movie that revolves around a senior girl named Bianca who at the beginning of the movie is completely contented with who she really was. She had two very attractive and popular best friends who were Jess and Casey. The story all began when Madison, aka the mean popular girl who seeks for attention at school invited them to a night party at her house. Well at first, Bianca doesn’t want to come. As she heard that her crush Toby will be there; she was forced to come. During the party, Wesley, who is her childhood friend whom she doesn’t like that much come to talk to her. It was a normal conversation until he suddenly called her the “Duff” which is the abbreviated term for Designated Ugly Fat Friend. After that incident, Bianca’s life was not the same as it was before. She tried to sought for a change and asked Wes’ help for her to transform from a Duff into somebody that actually fit in among the crowd. After going through lots of changes, she was then able to realize things that she never thought of before. At the end, she was able to understand that being a Duff is not actually a bad thing because in reality, we are always going to be somebody’s duff. William joins the military and while he’s gone Margaret invites William’s mother Mrs. Anglin and brother Marshall to her parents’ house for dinner, which doesn’t go well because Mr. and Mrs. Ryder refuse to sign in an even more awkward silence. William comes back injured but not crippled and they live with her parents until he’s accepted into college. Margaret’s parents are sad to see her go but as soon as they can they go see her and it was unannounced. Margaret’s parents are very upset to see the place where she’s living and go to sign how upset they are that William hasn’t provided better for their daughter. Her parents never visit her again. The next time Margaret sees her parents is when she’s very pregnant to let them know that they’ll be grandparents. Lastly William and Margaret move into better housing where they will raise their child till William graduates from college. Margaret and William invite everyone to their baby shower after the birth of their son and her parents show up after everyone has gone. Margaret is upstairs with her son and William answers the door and her parents surprise her. When they see each other all the turmoil between them is gone and they enjoy each other’s company. The documentary we viewed in class is called Thirteenth and is a harrowing deconstruction of the United States current criminal justice system. This one hour and forty minute documentary directed by Ava Duvernay digs deep into the corruption, stagnation, and mismanagement of our countries prison and justice system. Showing how racial prejudice is still alive and well today by examining how we treat criminals in the U.S. This documentary was released in 2016 as a Netflix original and caused quite the uproar. Selma is based on a true story that happened in 1965 in Selma, Alabama. Selma was the city that ended suffrage for African Americans because of Rev Martin Luther king and the help from his Christian family. The movie has some intense violence and a lot of foul language, but overall is mainly about Christian and moral content. Even though the Civil Rights Act of 1964 desegregated in certain areas. It made it more difficult for black to register to vote. In 1964 Rev Martin Luther king receives a Noble Pace Prize. The Civil Rights Act was outlaw segregation in all 50 states, but African Americans where still having trouble at that time. Martin decides voting should be there next fight. So, they march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.
