I first understood reading was important when I had to take a reading test in elementary. I was told the test would determine whether I would move on to the next grade level. That was when I realized I had to take reading important. I didn’t like having to read 4 different stories, but I knew I had to try my best to pass. The test results took forever to come in which made it even scarier. Once my teacher told me I had passed I felt a huge relief. Ever since I have never doubted the importance of reading.

Whether they have emotional or physical problems, or a person just needs a good story, reading can help a person explore new worlds through their imagination. I loved reading from a young age, and treasured the moments when my mother read to me. She helped me explore the unique worlds that authors try to portray through their writing.

The ability to read allows for education, enjoyment, imagination, and understanding. With literacy you can go anywhere: the correct path on the highway, a made up kingdom, or the center of an atom. Reading is not in jeopardy, but rather will remain an essential part of our lives for the next several decades, if not centuries. Reading has proved to be a durable form of entertainment for centuries, however there will likely be some adjustments to how we approach the activity in the near future.

I think the most important reading benefit is the fact that just picking up a book can lower your chances of having alzheimer's and dementia. Doing something so simple can keep you from losing memories of loved ones and basically losing yourself as a human being. Why people wouldn’t just read a book is beyond me. You read things everyday, so why not just make it a pass time with a novel instead of street signs and menus. You might actually be able to accomplish something if you read a decent book and not a menu on some fast food restaurant
