Greg Hamilton purchased the Hickory Ridge Golf Club in 1988. This publicly nine-hole golf course was located in Columbia, South Carolina. HRGC initially opened in 1957 as an 18-hole, par-71 golf course by a family who go by the name Williams and who also owned the land it sat upon. Williams’s family sold the course in 1964; the business had been exchanged between many purchasers before getting cut back to a nine-hole 35-par course by the McAlister’s. The McAlister’s who were in the construction business brought the golf course in 1978 making major renovations to the course. McAlister had not sufficiently maintained the clubhouse or the course adequately while in ownership of the land; he took
When I was thirteen years old, my dad introduced me to golf. I have been hooked on to it ever since. I play golf for my high school and I am hoping to get a golf scholarship to somewhere when I graduate. My coach at the beach told me that the best way to get a scholarship is to play in summer tournaments around my area. I made the cut in the last tournament I played which was a qualifying tournament to go to Charleston for what they call “The All Star Championship”. My trip to Charleston was one of my favorite trips we have taken because I got to play golf the whole weekend, we stayed in a nice hotel, and the scenery was amazing.
This may not seem like an event that you’d want to take part in, but for the people of Pebbleton, it is a very special
I visited the Newport Back Bay Visitors Center. It is located in the Newport Back Bay for people to visit and learn about the wonderful Back Bay that is only steps from our very own school, CDM. The history of the Back Bay goes back a long time. In the 18th century when the Spanish arrived in California places like the Back Bay were very abundant. However by 1975 less than 10% remained in-between Santa Barbra and Mexico. In 1960 plans were made to make the back bay a large marina with houses right along the water. But in 1967 when a group of citizens founded the Friends of Newport Bay they fought to keep this from happening. It was also founded to help bring attention to the ecological importance of the Bay and to help try and ensure its survival. As a result of the Friends of Newport Bay the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve was founded in 1975. Seven years latter in 1982 more land was added at Big Canyon. Five years later, in 1989 what is now known as Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve was established on the neighboring bluffs after the County of Orange acquired an additional 140 acres. Eleven years after in 2000 the Friends and the Naturalists joined forces to become the Newport Bay Naturalists & Friends. Most recently, in 2010 it was elected to change the name of this organization to the Newport Bay Conservancy, which is the name that stands today. The visitor’s center helps inform people of the intricate Back Bay, how it is being preserved,

The one that is most talked about, and almost every angler and co-anger’s dream, is the Bassmaster’s Classic tournament. In order to be an angler in this tournament, you must be considered a professional angler. Like many of the well-known anglers, they did not get to the Classic overnight. They needed a great amount of practice, such as fishing in other tournaments, and patience to get in to a spot as an angler in the Bassmaster’s Classic.

Golf. A sport that was dull and mundane twenty years ago, evolved when Tiger Woods came to the scene. I started golfing during high school and loved it for the single fact, Tiger Woods played it. Growing up I pictured golf as that once boring sport played by old white men lacking a fan base. Just like myself, many people hated the idea of watching golf, so the sport needed a change. Tour earnings were low, scoring was average, and young people did not want to pick up the sport. Tiger Woods came on the tour in 1997 and astronomically changed the view of golf. The “Tiger Effect” on golf is real and more people have been trying to work harder to get to that “Tiger” bench mark. He single handily brought golf to the limelight and made it interesting to watch this godly like figure tear up the greens while becoming an idol to young golfers around the world.

A few days before my dad and I leave for the tournament, I mentally prepare myself to know what I 'm going to look for while I 'm there, so I can hopefully apply what I see to improve my game. This would be a great learning experience for me. To watch the professionals and evaluate their swings, alignment, etc. to apply to my golf game. So, when I start getting serious about golfing and enter high school or enter into summer tournaments, I can be ahead of the game. Also, to know what kind of competition I will have to deal with if I ever enter into this tournament.
