In the story “Raymond’s run” the character Raymond actually runs and his proud little sister the track star Squeaky found out that he’s just as fast as her. Now this I the story bring a lot of speculation about whether or not Raymond become a runner like squeaky. I’m here to tell you that he will in fact be a runner maybe even better than squeaky and I’m going to tell you why, so let’s get started.
So at the end of the book “Raymond’s Run” during Squeaky’s track meet against Gretchen she sees Raymond climbing a fence and running with her she couldn’t believe her eyes Raymond was running just as fast as her and when Squeaky finished the race Raymond started rung again and Squeaky was ecstatic
She was so happy for Raymond and she even thought
Raymond is a young man who is mentally challenged and his little sister is a runner. The one job that his sister has to do is take care of him and watch. So one day Squeaky (Hazel) decided to enter the May Day Race so she could run the 50 yard dash and she noticed something about her brother that she never noticed before. What she noticed about her brother is that he may have his own special way of running but he’s also a really good runner. Then she thought to herself that’s how he kept up with her on her runs and that’s why I think Raymond would make a good
Determined Squeaky In Raymond’s Run by Toni Cade Bombara, Squeaky is very determined. She is determined because she stands up for her brother Raymond. She also wants to win the 50 yard dash against the other girls. Then she wants to coach her brother Raymond.
Raymond’s Run Character Essay In the story “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky, the protagonist, is a young girl who is in charge of taking care of her handicapped brother, Raymond. She will protect him and take charge of him if she senses danger. Squeaky proves to a memorable character as I read the story. She has proven to be memorable because she is confident, protective, and mostly because she is nonconformist.
Because she saw Raymond running along the sidelines, something sparks inside of her. “Cause if I’ve lost this race, or if me and Gretchen tied… I can always retire as a runner… and coach with Raymond as my champ” (Bambara 111). Squeaky doesn’t care about her win anymore. She is thinking about Raymond’s potential as a runner. Her heart is growing fond at the thought of her brother following behind her footsteps. “My brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition” (Bambara 111). This shows that Squeaky is excited for her brother’s future. He is no longer the annoying ‘little’ brother he always was. Now, he is a person with the ability to run like she can. Finally, even after the man announces that Squeaky won, she looks over at Gretchen. There is no longer venom boiling between them. “And I smile. ‘Cause she’s good, no doubt about it. Maybe she’d like to help me coach Raymond” (Bambara 112). There is a newfound respect between the two girls. Gretchen even smiles back. The walls Squeaky spent so long building up are now crumbling down piece by piece as her mind
Around the world many kids have disabilities. In the story “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky’s older brother Raymond, has disabilities. Squeaky loves to run and has to take care of her disabled brother, Raymond. She runs with her brother tagging along behind her. People make fun of her brother, and at the end she wins the race.
In the story Raymond’s run I think Raymond would be a grate runner. Because he is always watching squeaky run and train. Then she states in the story that when she dose run Raymond can keep up with her easy. And if squeaky trains him then she can teach him everything she knows so he to can become a grate runner. So if squeaky teaches him and he is passionate abought running then he should be a grate runner.
characteristics of The characteristics of Squeaky in the story “Raymond’s Run” is competitive, grouchy, protective, fast, observant. I can tell that squeaky is Competitive because in the story Squeaky says” I win cause i’m the best.” (Bambara,26)and to me that sounds cocky too. The reason I think she is grouchy is because she says in the story” I much rather knock you down and take my chances.” (Bambara, 23). The reason I think Squeaky is protective is because when Raymond and her are on the street Mary Louise just asked what grade Raymond is in and Squeaky freaked out on Mary because she thought that Mary was going to make fun of Raymond. The reason that I think she is fast is because she wins the race at the end of the story and she wins the race at the May Day festival every year. The reason that I think Squeaky is Observant is
The song “Roar”, by Katy Perry, was very popular in 2013. It told the story of a girl who faced her challenges and was able to roar, or have confidence, and determination, louder than ever. This relates to what Squeaky, the main character in “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara. The plot in “Raymond's Run”, is about how Squeaky struggles to show her family that running is important, to take care of Raymond and to beat Gretchen in the race. Through her struggles, Squeaky developed lots of confidence. In both “Roar” and “Raymond's Run” the main characters fight through their struggles and gain determination as life goes on.
After reading the story Raymond’s run, I predict that Raymond will become an excellent runner just like Squeaky. Raymond looked up to Squeaky and as she continued to run and practice he grew on her. Raymond caught on to what Squeaky was doing and started to follow her.
“Raymond’s Run by Toni Cade Bambara ia about a girl named Hazel “Squeaky” who loves running and is protective of her brother named Raymond. To Hazel “like being people” means to be yourself.
Do you think that Raymond will be a runner like Squeaky. Me personally I do think he will be a good runner and he learns from watching squeaky and practicing with her every day. Raymond wants to be like squeaky as you can tell if you read the passage when it says he copied her every move before the race started. If squeaky showed and teaches him what she know he will be even faster than he already is. The faster Raymond get he will have a better chance of winning a race.
Reasons I predict that Raymond will become a runner like squeaky is because he has his own little race and style of running. She notices this at her last race and gets excited at the ending, not because she won, but because of Raymond running. Second of, he can run as fast as she can. When she goes running that’s how he keeps up with her. He runs with her.
Compassion for family and others symbolizes Squeaky in “Raymond’s Run” and Parvana in “Parvana’s Journey”. Both help their families and take care of them more than themselves. The author of “Raymond’s Run” is Toni Cade Bambara and the author of “Parvana’s Journey” is Deborah Ellis. The main characters are Squeaky and Parvana. In “Raymond’s Run”, the main character, Squeaky, is initially self centered and focused on her own career as a runner. She was given the responsibility of taking care of her mentally disabled brother by her family. Eventually, she recognizes Raymond’s true potential as a runner. Then she starts focusing more on coaching Raymond. In “Parvana’s Journey”, Parvana loses her family in the middle of war, destruction, and the Taliban’s cruelty to the Afghan people. Then she takes
Squeaky feels fortunate to take care of Raymond because she is able to make sure Raymond gets the respect and care he deserves. For example, in the short story “Raymond’s Run”, the text talks about how Squeaky would much rather fight the person making fun of Raymond than letting them talk. This exemplifies the fact that Squeaky believes Raymond is a good person despite his health issues, and no one should be bullying him. Thus, Squeaky feels the need to stand up for her “younger brother.” To add on, Squeaky believed that even if she did not win the race, Raymond can grow up to be the next best runner. The text revealed Squeaky’s enthusiasm with Raymond’s ability to climb the fence and run swiftly. This leads on to the fact that Squeaky
Every person in the world experience being sad, frustrated, happy, etc. This is called emotions, emotions are what makes us who we are and it could either help us get through tough obstacles in life, or its what makes us feel the need of giving up. In the story “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, a young girl named Hazel goes through tough obstacles with her brother, Raymond. Hazel is a very determined girl although her brother Raymond, has a disorder which falls under her responsibility, but the main conflict of the story is when Squeaky runs into Gretchen and Gets into an argument, but it’s not really just about the argument it's more about the May Day race.
